WOLFE CITY Lessie Stewart Barker, 100, of Wolfe City died Sept. 13, 2006, at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Daughter of John W. and Clara Ann Tingle Stewart, she was born July 22, 1906, in the Middle Sulphur Community near Wolfe City. She was married to Clyde Barker on Aug. 22, 1922, in a horse-drawn buggy in the Durham Community. Mrs. Barker was the oldest living member of First Baptist Church in Wolfe City, and she was noted around Wolfe City for her butter-fried pies and chicken and dumplings. Survivors include three granddaughters, Novella Thacker and husband Mike Sheegog of Mesquite, Camilla Millsap and husband Harold of Greenville and Shannon Schumacher and husband Doug of Fort Worth; one grandson, Dick Owens and wife Ola of Wolfe City; eight great-grandchildren, Marcella Houston, Heath Thacker, Natalie Peters, Wendy Millsap, Heather Singleton, Colin Owens, and Anna and Alex Schumacher; five great-grandchildren, Justin and Kailey Peters, Lincoln and Dakota Thacker and Carter Singleton; in-laws Bethel Henslee, Bobby Owens and wife Millo, Ann Bridges and brother-in-law Gilbert Nelson. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, K.D. Stewart; a sister, Alveretta Nelson; two daughters, Billie Ruth Henslee and Minuewan Owens; and one son, Robert Bridges. Pallbearers are Brad Peters, Doug Schumacher, Brad Singleton, Colin Owens, Mike Bridges, Pat Bridges and Heath Thacker. Honorary pallbearers are Justin Peters, Alex Schumacher, Carter Singleton and Dakota Thacker. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church in Wolfe City with Dr. Kevin Mitchell and Dr. Ed Lee officiating. Burial follows in Mount Carmel Cemetery. R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City is in charge of arrangements.
