Christine Ragsdale Lummus

Christine Ragsdale Lummus, 78, of Atlanta, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2008. She was born Aug. 13, 1929, in the small community of Dixon, daughter of Paul H. and Iva Spears Ragsdale. After graduating from Greenville High School, she met Charles Wendle Lummus of Bloomburg. They were married in 1948 and would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Nov. 13, 2008. They moved to Atlanta in 1962 where they raised their family. Christine was a loving wife, precious mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cherished her family and was devoted to her friends. She enjoyed cooking and loved nothing more than to host a gathering of family and friends at her home. She participated in numerous community activities including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, election judge and she also volunteered at the Crisis Center. Mrs. Lummus especially enjoyed working in the church and was an active member of West Side Baptist Church for more than 40 years.She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Eugene Ragsdale; and an infant sister, Mary Lou Ragsdale.Survivors are her beloved husband; one son, David Lummus and wife Marilyn of Atlanta; two daughters, Lisa Hill and husband Russell of San Antonio and Lori Smith and husband Stuart of Atlanta; was Memaw to six grandchildren, Linsey Francis and husband Tony, Eric Lummus, Jordan Smith and Garrett Smith, all of Atlanta and Caitlin Hill and Courtney Hill of San Antonio; one great-granddaughter, Ava Jean Francis of Atlanta (all were her precious angels); one sister, Pauline Emerson of Greenville; one brother, John Ragsdale and wife Carolyn of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and a host of nieces and nephews.A celebration of her life was at 4 p.m., June 4, at Hanner Funeral Chapel in Atlanta. Interment followed in New Hope Cemetery.
