Greenville Herald Banner
Friday, August 11, 2006

Thomas Frank Brewer was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on ug. 9, 2006, following a short battle with cancer. Mr. Brewer was born May 30, 1928, in Windom, son of Earl Thomas and Verna Elliot Brewer. One of seven children born during difficult times, Mr. Brewer often reminded people how lucky he was to have lived such a full and rewarding life. He married his love Alta L. Stephens on Dec. 3, 1950, and made her his life’s devotion for 55 years. Mr. Brewer joined the United States Army in November 1945. During his enlisted years he received many awards for outstanding service. He served as supply specialist as well as serving with the military police transporting Japanese war criminals. He retired with a ranking of first sergeant E-8 In November 1967 after serving his country for 22 years. As a civilian he later became employed as a contractor for Texas Utilities where he supplied fuel to north Texas power plants. His logistics training in the military proved to be very beneficial to him during this time. After retirement from Texas Utilities Fuel, he and his wife spent most of their days together fishing. This became one of their favorite pastimes, and they were on the lake come rain or shine if the fish were biting. He is survived by his wife and love of Greenville; two children, son Robert Brewer and wife Claudia of Greenville and daughter Denise Norman and husband Charlie of Little Elm; three granddaughters who fondly called him “Pappa Tom,” Carinne Brewer of Greenville and Kristen Norman and Kelly Norman of Little Elm; brothers Joe Brewer of Bentonville, Ark., Lloyd Brewer of Bonham and Roy Brewer of Pittsburg, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ross Brewer; and sisters Merle Brewer, who was an infant, and Virginia Ballou. To all who knew and loved Mr. Brewer, he will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Lynch Funeral Home chapel with son Robert Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park with Jim Corbet, pastor, officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews Jim Rencher, Tim Brewer, Shawn Brewer, Rick Brewer and longtime friends and neighbors Jerry Sumrow and James Oliver. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
