Guide To Boston Tall Ships Visit, War Of 1812 Bicentennial

This is the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. Our ancestors fought over 200 years ago. Unfortunately, so many Americans have no idea the war was fought. A Spanish born philosopher and poet, George Santayana quoted: "Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Take time to read about the war. Books are available at local book stores, online, and a few may be found at discount book sellers.

The US Navy has held celebrations at many locations around the United States. Why would they hold these celebrations? The United States Navy became an important force during the time the War of 1812 started.  Without them we would not have won the war! We need to thank the Navy and US Marines for putting on these events to show what happened during the war!

We, your ancestors of today and tomorrow, are shaping the future of your lives. Our ancestors fought the War of 1812, which was the continuation of the American Revolution. Because of their courage and belief in a democratic society, they labored and fought to shape the civilization of our time, not only theirs. We give thanks to our ancestors. God bless America!

Salute to The Flag of 1812

All hail to Thee, fair flag of 1812, under whose

stars and stripes our fathers fought for liberty and justice.

We pledge to Thee our loyal hearts, and thus salute Thee.

The National Society of the United Society of the United States Daughters of 1812 serves to promote, preserve, and increase the knowledge of the American people. We believe in preserving documents, relics, and marking historic areas where history took place. We recognize the importance of maintaining family histories and traditions, as well as remembering patriotic Americans. We teach others the historic deeds of the civil military and naval lives of our ancestors who shaped our government. We serve to persuade Congress to compile and publish the records of men and women who served in civil, military, and naval service between the years of 1784 to 1815.

Remember to fly the stars and stripes to show that you, too, are a patriot!
