MARRIAGE RECORDS

The early marriage records for the Bevil District and Jasper County were apparently lost in a fire which occurred at the courthouse on October 28, 1849.

Volume "1A"

This volume contains 37 marriage records dated from November 29, 1849 to July 1, 1852. Pages 1 thru 54 of this volume are not used for marriage records and the records do not appear in date order. Only 8 records appear for the year 1850 and leaves one to believe that they may not be complete.

Original marriage licenses and returns (141) from July 1852 thru February 1858, which do not appear in the official marriage volumes.

Volume "A"

This volume starts out with pages 1 thru 7 containing records from December 1865 thru December 1866. Pages 8 thru 102 are blank and then contains records from March 1858 thru some of 1871. Sometimes marriage records have been pasted in between the original pages. There are 444 marriage records in this volume.

Volume "B"

This volume contains 248 marriage records covering 1871 to 1875.

Miscellaneous Marriage Records #2
Original marriage licenses and returns (60) from July 1852 thru February 1858, which do not appear in the official marriage volumes.

Volume "C"

This volume contains 238 records from July 1876 to October 1880. There seems to be a possibility that some pages may be missing at the end of this volume.

Volume "D"

This volume covers 238 records for October 1880 to August 1885.

Volume "E"

This volume contains 860 records from August 1885 to 1900.
