BETHEL LUTHERAN CEMETERY

How To Get There:
From the Avoca, Texas Post Office go 5.8 miles East on Farm Road 600 to the cemetery and church which is on the left (West) side of the road. A nice cemetery and beautiful old stone church. Worth the trip. This cemetery also known as Ericksdahl Cemetery.

A Bit of History: S.M. Swenson came to this country in 1836 at age 20 and moved to Texas two years later. He amassed a fortune in land, holding more than 400,000 acres in Jones and Travis Counties. He moved to New York in 1863. With his great wealth he helped over 1000 Swedish immigrants to enter this country and most settled at the community of Ericksdahl in Jones County, named after Mr.Swenson's son Eric. These families later constructed the magnificent Bethel Luthern Church some 10 miles southeast of Stamford, Texas.
