Comments:John PYLE and his family migrated to Texas abt 1835. He applied for land from Stephen F. Austin and He was granted a league and labor (4000+ acres) in Montgomery Co. His son Joseph was also granted 1/2 a league and labor (2000+) acres. An additional half a grant was granted to his other sons. John McFarland(son-in-law) was also give a full grant. John and other members of his family also volunteered for service in Sam Houston's Army and were granted additional land for their service. In 1853/54, they sold the land in Montgomery Co., and moved north to land they purchased in the vicinity of Kemp, TX. (See the listing for Pyle's Prairie Cemetery) |
