Press Release by Kerrville Genealogical Society May 14, 2011

The Society has, as one of its goals, the collection and preservation of historical and genealogical data for Kerr County and the surrounding area, and is the primary sponsor of the Genealogy Center of Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library - assisting in its growth and effectiveness. The Library has recently moved this Genealogy Collection to the new Kerr Regional History Center & Archives, adjacent to the Library on Water Street in Kerrville.   The Society's contributions include furnishing volunteers with genealogy experience to help those who visit the Center for genealogy information, help and guidance.

These genealogy facilities are quite extensive for a small community, and draw visitors from well beyond the boundaries of this County.   Included in the Collection are books, periodicals, research materials, computer terminals, a CD ROM library which contains census records and indices, social security & military files, microfilm rolls of census records for Texas and many southern states, Kerr County Deeds, Marriages, Death Indices (State of Texas) and the "Kerrville Mountain Sun" & "Kerrville Daily Times" newspapers.    In addition, individual members of the Society have compiled important genealogical data from local records and have published this material as an aid to research in Kerr County.
