Canal and bridge two miles from Collegeport, Tex.
Depicts a bridge over a canal of the Collegeport Irrigation Company.  The canals were constructed with navigation in mind. Bridges were built over them to allow clearance for barges moving freight and supplies throughout the system. These early irrigators learned that in order to maintain water levels, locks needed to be installed, thus blocking the channels to navigation. It was also difficult for the early steam engines to cross these structures, so they were replaced with lower bridges.
