W. R. was married on 18 Sep 1918 in Giles Co., TN, to Ada Luella Martin who was the daughter of James F. and Sarah Pairlee Bonee Martin. She was born 4 June 1887 probably in Lawrence County, TN which is just west of Giles County. The family lived near the Giles County line. Family tradition pieces together from several family members indicates that W. R. left newlyweds, Guy and Theresa Joines (m 11 May 1918 to care for the younger children still at home and traveled back to Giles County, TN to find a wife. Wouldn't you be interested in how that courtship was accomplished? Ada was 31 at the time and she and her sister Lula, along with their father, were raising their nephew Claude. Claude was the son of their sister, Mary Etta Fleeman, who had passed away. Was Ada actually in love? Was she just that desperate? Did W. R. neglect to tell her he still had six children at home ranging in ages from 16 to 5? Whatever the reason, they were married and returned to his home at Buhler. According to one family member, Ada said one of the first things she did upon arrival was sew 75 pairs of underwear for her new family.

The family was living in Francitas when Ada's two youngest children were born, but had moved back to Buhler some time later.

W. R., always troubled with heart problems, died 18 Mar 1937. He was buried beside Sallie at the Joines Family Cemetery. Ada was left with their three children, ages eleven, seven and five. In his will Ada was appointed executrix he willed to her 320 acres of land. W. R.'s inventory revealed he had owned three parcels of land which totaled 303 acres and a lot in Bloomington all valued at $2742.28 as well as one mule (very old) valued at $2.50 and household and kitchen furniture valued at $50.00.

Ada and the children continued to live in Buhler until the early 1940s when they moved to Francitas in a house they purchased from Mr. Everett Upton. The house had originally been built by Levi Bailey who was a builder from Kansas. He built his own house in the spring of 1911 to last and last it did. It is still standing in 2007.

A large crowd met at the home of Mr. W. R. Joines Friday night and practiced singing. We enjoyed it so much we hope it will not be the last meeting.
