Private Lenard Ernest Blackburn [March 9, 1891 - December 15, 1917] was born to John Edward Blackburn [May 28, 1857 - April 9, 1934] and Ellen (Taylor) Blackburn [December 15, 1861 - February 18, 1934] at La Grange, Fayette County, Texas .  He died from Pneumonia (lobar) acute, right lower lobe [probable Spanish Flu] at the Base Hospital, Camp Travis, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas.  He was attached to Battery C, 344th Field Artillery, 36th (T Patch) Division.  He is buried at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing, Matagorda County, Texas.  Besides his parents he was survived by three brothers and three sisters.  As best as can be determined from available records his family was living at Blessing, Matagorda County, Texas when he joined the Army and when he died. Later they moved to Markham, Texas.  He gave his occupation as farmer on his draft registration card.  His parents are buried at Hawley Cemetery near him.

MRS. ELLEN BLACKBURN

Mrs. Ellen Blackburn, wife of J. E. Blackburn of Markham, died yesterday morning at her home at 9:30 a.m., age 72 years, 2 months and 3 days.

Mrs. Blackburn is survived by her husband, six children, Mrs. W. H. Wheeler, Rockport; Mrs. W. G. Alderman, Stover, Mo.; Mrs. V. Murphy, Blessing; Mrs. A. A. Sherrer, Blessing; Mr. E. O. Blackburn, Blessing; Ben Blackburn, Markham.

Funeral services will be held at Hawley Cemetery, tomorrow, Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Rev. Robert Paine of Markham officiating. Funeral arrangements under the direction of Walker-Matchett Funeral Home.

J. E. Blackburn

Mr. J. E. Blackburn, age 76 years, 10 months and 11 days, died at the home of his son-in-law, Vern Matthews [Murphy], 5 1/2 miles southeast of Blessing Monday morning at 11:15.

Mr. Blackburn had been in ill health for some time and had gradually grown worse since his wife died some six weeks ago. Mr. Blackburn is survived by four daughters, Mrs. W. H. Wheeler, Rockport, Texas; Mrs. W. G. Alderman, Stover, Mo.; Mrs. Vern Murphy, Mrs. A. A. Sherrer, Blessing; and two sons, E. O. of Blessing and Ben, of Markham.

Funeral services were conducted at Hawley Cemetery, Rev. Robt. Paine officiating. Funeral arrangements in charge of Walker-Matchett Funeral Home.
