Staff Sergeant Elmer Allan Henton, Jr., United States Air Force, [June 26, 1931-August 3, 1959] was born to Elmer Allan Henton, Sr. [November 8, 1901 - March 2, 1979] and Pauline (Martin) Henton [August 10, 1906 - October 27, 1984] at Denver, Denver County, Colorado.  He was an only child.  Allan graduated from Sweeny High School and was a student at Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas when he joined the U. S. Air Force. It is unknown when Allan joined the Air Force, but at the time of his death he was assigned to the 672d Technical Training Squadron, 705th Strategic Missile Wing (SAC) based at the Royal Air Force (RAF) Base, Lakenheath, England, as a personnel specialist.  The squadron was responsible for training RAF missile crews on the use of the PGM-17 Thor missile. On August 3, 1959 he was killed in an automobile accident at Mountsorrell near Leicester, England.  He was returned home for burial and was interred at Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck, Texas on August 18, 1959.  At the time of his death his family was living in Old Ocean, Brazoria County, Texas.  He was survived by his parents.

Henton Services Held Tuesday

Funeral services for S/Sgt E. Allan Henton, Jr., 28, were held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Tuesday at 10 a. m. Conducting the service were the Rev. Tom Plumbley and the Chaplain from Ellington AFB, Houston. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park.

The deceased was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Henton of Old Ocean. He died as a result of an automobile accident, August 3, at Mount Sorrell [Mountsorrell] near Leicester, England, where he had been stationed in the USAF. At the time of his death he was with the 672ND Technical Training Squadron (SAC).

Allan graduated from the Sweeny High School and was a student at SHSTC in Huntsville at the time of his enlistment in the Air Force.

A member of the First Christian Church of Bay City, S/Sgt. Henton is survived by his parents; and also Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Craig, of Missouri and Mr. and Mrs. J. Kendall Kelly, of California and their families.

Sweeny ----- Elmer A. Henton, 78, of Sweeny died of a heart attack at Sweeny Community Hospital Friday (March 2, 1979).

Henton had been a local resident for 32 years and an employee of Phillips Petroleum for 33 years.

No memorial services will be held by his request.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Henton of Sweeny, a sister, Mrs. Eva Mae Jones of Banson (Branson) Missouri; and others.
