Private Eliseo G. Sanchez United States Army 3824789 was born in 1913 in Texas and was killed in action on September 3, 1943. He was the son of Manuel Sanchez [March 6, 1881 - April 14, 1963] and Josefa Garcia Sanchez [March 19, 1887 - January 5, 1958]. He enlisted in Houston, Texas on October 29, 1942 and served in the 172nd Infantry Regiment, 43rd Infantry Division. Private Sanchez is buried at Manila American Cemetery, Fort Bonifacio, Manila Philippines, Plot C, Row 1, Grave 50. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. His parents are buried at Palacios Cemetery, Palacios, Matagorda County, Texas.

Elesea [Eliseo] G. Sanchez, Killed in Action, Is Word Received


Word was received here Tuesday from the War Department at Washington that Elesea [Eliseo] G. Sanchez had been killed in action. He is survived by his wife, Paula R. Sanchez, father, Manuel Sanchez, and brother, Lucio Sanchez, of Palacios.

Funeral services for Mrs. Josefa Sanchez, 71, of Palacios were held Tuesday at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric E. Reinhold officiating. Burial was in Palacios cemetery.


Survivors include her husband, Manuel Sanchez, one daughter Estefana S. Dias, her sons, Salvador, Cruz, Lucio and Frank Sanchez all of Palacios, and Gilbert Sanchez of New Gulf, 23 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, her sister, Mrs. Fidela Perez of Palacios, her brothers, Jesus Garcia of Houston, Paul Garcia and Nick Garcia, Sr. of Palacios.

They all join in expressing their deep appreciation for the sympathy shown to them by their friends and neighbors, at the hour of the deep grief for such an irreparable loss. And also express their thanks for the innumerable floral offerings, which are a symbol of the great respect and love entertained by all, towards the deceased Mrs. Josefa Sanchez.

Sanchez Rites Are Held In Palacios

Funeral services for Manuel C. Sanchez, 81, of Palacios were conducted at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 1:30 p. m. Tuesday by Rev. Louis Wickham.

Sanchez, born in Palacios* March 6, 1881, died at Wagner General Hospital Sunday night.

Survivors include one daughter, Estefana Sanchez of Palacios; five sons, Salvador, Cruz, Frank and Lucio, all of Palacios, and Gilbert of Newgulf; two step-brothers, Juan Ruiz of Houston, and Dentino Ruiz of Rosenberg.

*The 1930 Federal Census for Jackson County, Texas  gives Mexico as the birthplace for Mr. Sanchez and says he came to the United States in 1890. The obituary for one of his sons indicates that the family may have moved to Palacios in 1932.
