Gus E. Brown

 

Gus E. Brown of Bay City, Texas, passed away in San Antonio, Texas, on Friday at the age of 60. A native of Caldwell County, Brown had been a local rice farmer for many years.

 

Services were held Sunday at 3:30 PM from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. Interment followed in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Texas. Rev. Walter E. Campbell, Jr., pastor of St. James Episcopal Church in Conroe, Texas, officiated. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Gus E. Brown, Sr., of Luling, Texas; three brothers, Billy Brown, of Van Vleck, Texas, Joe Brown, of Vivian, Louisiana, and Ernest Brown, of Atlanta, Texas.

 

Pallbearers were A. H. Wadsworth, Harley Savage, Francis Savage, Jr., Harry Norris, Jr., R. Q. McSwain, and G. P. Hardy, Jr.  Honorary pallbearers were Harry Norris, Sr., Layton Moore, Rowland Rugeley, Stewart Savage, and J. C. Lewis. Arrangements were under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Vernon Burrell

January 17, 1917 – June 17, 1976

 

Vernon Burrell, of Bay City, Texas, died in the Matagorda General Hospital on June 17, 1976 at 7 PM. He was born January 17, 1917, in Karnes City, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Muriel Burrell, of Bay City, one daughter, Miss Nancy Burrell, of Bay City, one sister, Mrs. Paula Daughtry, of Bishop, Texas, two brothers, Alfred Burrell, of Kingsville, Texas, and Otto Thiele, of Sinton, Texas, and a host of friends. He was employed by Celanese for over 20 years and worked as a mechanic and tool room supervisor.

 

The funeral will be conducted at the Sixth Street Church of Christ at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 19, with Mr. Walter Allen Brown officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City, Texas. The body will lie in state at Bay City Funeral Home until 9:00 AM Saturday. Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.
