Supt. McAllister Rites At 2 Today in Bay City

BAY CITY--Funeral services for Harmon Jerome McAllister, 53, superintendent of Bay City Independent School District, will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church.

McAllister, who has served as superintendent here since July 1, 1960, died in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston in an unexpected relapse after what was apparently successful surgery. He succumbed at 4:30 a. m. Monday.

A resident of Bay City since 1936, McAllister resided at 2509 Ave I with his wife, the former Mary Belle Richeson, and family. He was honored as "Bay City's outstanding citizen of 1959" by the Chamber of Commerce, and had served as high school teacher and principal, business manager, school board member and president, and was Matagorda County auditor until his appointment to fill the position vacated by retiring John Cherry.

McAllister had also been active in the Bay City Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Community Concert Association, Band Parents Club, Bay City Commandery, the First Methodist Church, and in Boy Scout work.

Rev. Leslie LeGrand of Epworth Methodist in Houston will officiate at the Tuesday rites, and burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors in addition to the widow are one daughter, Julianne, two sons, Jerry and Bill, all of Bay City; father, Hugh Hunter McAllister, three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Gilliland of Longview, Mrs. Wanda Casey of Fort Worth, Mrs. Dan Hallmark of Tyler; two brothers, Sidney McAllister of Quitman and Bob McAllister of Dallas.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Brewer, D. F. Wiginton, E. J. Faseler, B. E. Liston, John Hill and Pat Thompson.

Lemmon Clarence McBride
Feb. 16, 1927 –May 28, 2013

Lemmon Clarence McBride, 86, of Bay City, was born in Pledger, Texas, February 16, 1927, to Henry McBride and Annie Wiley McBride, and passed away May 28, 2013, in Houston, Texas.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force from 1949 until 1952, attaining the ranks of Staff Sergeant.

Survivors include: two sisters, Roxie O’Neal and Elnora Parks, both of Bay City; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a family of friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 8, at 10 a.m. at Tyree Chapel A.M.E. Church, Bay City, with the Rev. Willie Myles, eulogist.

Burial with military honors will follow at Eastview Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home chapel.

Barbara Clark McCarn 79 of Port Lavaca passed away March 13, 2013. She was born March 4, 1934 in Bay City, Texas.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. A private family graveside will be held.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Myron "Mike" Douglas McCloskey

(January 5, 1939 - January 21, 2013)

Myron Douglas “Mike” McCloskey, 74, of Bay City passed away January 21, 2013.

He was born January 5, 1939 in Cyril, Oklahoma to the late Leland McCloskey and Madie Laughlin McCloskey.

He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Celanese after 35 years and was a member and past–president of Baycel Golf Club and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Shannon McCloskey.

Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Felba Ruth McCloskey; his step-mother, Mary Ann McCloskey of Clairemont, California; daughter, Michele McCloskey Watson and husband Gary of Theodore, Alabama; son, Mikel David McCloskey of Bay City; brother, Richard McCloskey and wife Yvonne of Clairemont, California and two grandchildren, Eva Ashley McCloskey and Chris Henry Bouldin, Jr.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Jane Elizabeth Williamson McCormick
Oct. 7, 1942 – May 3, 2013

Jane “Janie” Williamson McCormick left her earthly residence on Friday, May 3, 2013, and is rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who preceded her. Janie was born on October 7, 1942 in Washington DC to Grady Williamson and Jane Glosson Williamson.  

She was blessed to be in two loving households - one of her parents and one of her aunt and uncle, Raleigh and Ruby Sanborn.

Janie grew up in Bay City where she was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She attended Bay City schools and graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas. She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia for two years and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Education. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

In her youth, Janie spent her summers at Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas. She was an avid reader, loved the theater, and enjoyed bridge, exercise, and travel. She was an active member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi.

Janie taught at Matagorda Elementary School and retired from the Department of Human Services where she was a caseworker for the elderly.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt and uncle.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Mike McCormick; brother, Raleigh Williamson and his wife Connie; stepchildren, Michele Ulmer and Jon McCormick; niece and nephew, Lauren Price and Chad Williamson; four step grandchildren, and two great-nephews and many cousins and devoted friends.

Janie’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers and Houston Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas.

Eula Sims McDonald

Services for Eula Sims McDonald, 95, long-time resident of Bay City, were scheduled for 4 p. m. today at First Baptist Church where the Rev. W. D. Baker and the Rev. M. A. Marshall of Houston officiated.

Mrs. McDonald, who was born June 16, 1890, in Montgomery County near Navasota, Texas, died at 6:30 p. m. March 15, 1986. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie E. McDonald and her daughter, Mrs. Lamar Meadows, Sr. of Richmond.

She moved to Bay City with her parents, Judge J. M. and Sally Lanham Sims, when she was a young girl. Her father was the fourteenth sheriff of Matagorda County. After graduating from high school in Bay City, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor College and received a bachelor of arts degree, afterwith she returned to Bay City and later married Lonnie E. McDonald, son of the Rev. Eli McDonald, the pastor of First Baptist Church, Bay City.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was recognized numerous times for her services. She was the director of the W. M. U. for many terms. She was also a member of the Bay City Study Club.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Sims and Jessie McDonald of Bay City; a son-in-law, Dr. P. Lamar Meadows Sr. of Richmond, three grandsons, Dewey F. Meadows of Houston, Dr. P. Lamar Meadows Jr. and Lonnie Meadows of Richmond; five great-grandchildren; two nieces, Louise Wite of San Antonio and Margaret Forsyeth of Houston, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include James Sowell, Roy Sander, James Harris, Don Bell, Gordon Hardegree and Bill Ehlert. Honorary pallbearers include J. B. Towers, Frank Balusek, D. F. Wiginton, J. C. Slone, Bill Slone, Gerald Rowland, Bill Correll and deacons of First Baptist Church.

Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Homes.

Memorials may be given to the Christian Ministries Center of First Baptist Church or to the Baptist Encampment of Palacios.

Jeffery Lynn McDonald Sr., 67, of Van Vleck passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013. Jeffery was born on August 5, 1946 in Popular Bluff, Missouri to the late Clarence Allen and Lera Bertice Walker McDonald. Jeffery was a loving father and grandfather. Jeffery loved spending time with his family. He was a jack-of-all-trades.

BAY CITY - Jane "MeMaw" McFarlain, 84, of Bay City and formerly of Palacios, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004.

She was born April 23, 1920, in Commerce, to the late Ben and Edna Malone. She was a Methodist.

Survivors: sons, Roger Conrad of Palacios, Bennie Conrad of Cedar Creek, Larry Conrad of Boothville, La., Ricky Conrad of Atascocita, and Rodney McFarlain of Bay City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sister, Juanita Hogue.

Mary Louise Snow Jackson McGlothlin, 83, of Lufkin passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013. She was born July 10, 1929 in Matagorda County to the late Lester & Mildred Jackson Serber. She was a longtime resident of Bay City, before moving to Lufkin.

Mary is survived by her 2 sons: Taft Snow, Jr. and Darrell Steve Jackson and 2 daughters: Mary Mildred and Lisa.

Sandi McGriff, 63, of Bay City, Texas, passed away February 15, 2014 in Alvin, Texas.

She was born August 9, 1950 in Seguin, Texas to Doris Junker Beicker and the late Leroy Beicker.

Sandi was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas H. McGriff; and her father.

BAY CITY - Patricia "Pat" McIntosh, 77 passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Pat was born on August 26, 1935 in Marlborough, Massachusetts to the late Armand and Teresa Mayes Boulay Sr.

Pat worked for many years caring for people as an Registered Nurse.

She is survived by her children; Timothy McIntosh, Karen Garza, Laurie Vargas, Matthew McIntosh; ten grandchildren and nine Great-grandchildren; 4 sisters, three brothers and numerous other loving relatives.

Preceded in death by her husband, Everett McIntosh, four brothers.

Alma Emma McKissick, 95, of El Maton passed away June 3, 2013. She was born November 2, 1917 in Caldwell, Texas to the late Frank Vavra and Johanna Popek Vavra.

Her husband, Thomas McKissick, and son, Gerald McKissick, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughters, Jessie Faye Falks and Alma Jo “Susie” Glasscock and husband Craig; son, Kenneth McKissick and wife Laura; sisters,  Elizabeth Blackwell and Gardenia Belcher; brothers, Milton Vavra, Franklin Vavra and Eddie Vavra; 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

He retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. after 35 years as a purchasing agent.

His wife, Merle “Linda” McKissick preceded him in death.

Martha McKissick, 74, of Ashby passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013.

She was born on January 20, 1939 in Bay City to the late Ernest and Trixie Hughes McIntosh.

Martha was a very independent woman. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Martha is survived by: her three loving daughters, Cindy Purswell and husband Adrian, Brenda Duke and husband John, and Pattie Lara; seven grandchildren, Blaine Purswell, Eric Purswell and wife Shanna, Christopher Duke and wife Hannah, Brian Duke and wife Becca, Jonathan Lara, Heather Lara, and Ceasar Lara; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Smith and husband Charlie; extended family, Terrill and Jeanie Wilson and their girls; and numerous other loving family members.

Reba Mae McKissick

(March 11, 1918 - December 25, 2012)

Reba “Junie” McKissick, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 25, 2012. Junie was born on March 11, 1918 in the Ashby Community, Matagorda County, to the late James Luther “Pete” McKissick and Belva “Kate” Dunbar. As a “Rosie the Riveter” , Junie contributed to the war effort building planes in Atlanta, Georgia. After the war Junie returned to Houston and started a 40 year career in the insurance industry, the Hartford Company. She was an avid reader , loved her T. V. shows and the crossword puzzle. Junie was a Baptist by faith, and was baptized in the Tres Palacios River. She is survived by her loving family, her sister Barbara Sullivan and her brother Bill McKissick, sister-in-law, Thelma McKissick, Niece Ann Saha, and other loving family members. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Luther McKissick, Jr., Gyle T. McKissick, and Warren H. McKissick. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Louis Saha, Jeffrey Saha, Bill Johnson, Michael McKissick, Jay Meyer and Erik Thormaehlen. Mrs. A. E. McLeod, age 22 years, 3 months and 9 days died at the Angleton Hospital, Oct. 24 at 11 p.m. She is survived by her husband, Mr. A. E. McLeod, two daughters, Evelyn and Bessie; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Bennett of Angleton, Texas; three brothers, A. G. Bennett of Bay City and Jack and Raymond Bennett of Angleton, Texas and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McDonald of Bay City. The remains were brought to Bay City and prepared for burial by Taylor Bros.

Funeral services were held at the residence of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McDonald, Tuesday at 4 p.m. Rev. P. T. Ramsey officiated. The active pallbearers were Amos Lee, F. A. Verser, Frank Carr, A. H. Wadsworth, J. D. Moore and Walter Heathcock. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery following the services under the direction of Taylor Bros.

Final Rites Held For W. E. McNabb, Former Judge Here

Final rites for William Edward McNabb, 81, former county judge, were held Sunday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with Father C. J. Martin officiating.

Mr. McNabb died Saturday. He is survived by his wife of Matagorda; one daughter, Mrs. Don Haley of BAy City; one sister, Mrs. E. P. Layton of Matagorda and one brother, A. W. of Matagorda.

Laura Opal Law McNeil, 73, of Houston, Texas, entered into eternal rest at her home on the afternoon of April 30, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at McCoy & Harrison Funeral Home, in Houston, Texas on MLK. Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery.

Christy Lynn McNett

Christy Lynn McNett, 52, of Bay City passed away Thursday September 19, 2013 in Houston at the Herman Memorial Hospital.

She was raised in Altamont, KS. and moved to Bay City 20 years ago.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Peterson of Altamont KS.

She is survived by her husband, Devin McNett of Bay City; her father, Jerry Peterson of Altamont KS; brothers, Richard Peterson of Memphis, TN and Roy Peterson of Parsons, KS; her daughter, Athena George and Stephen Horton of Victoria; her son, Shane George and Brittiany George stationed in Washington; Son, Tristan McNett of Bay City TX; and grand-daughter, Kyra Horton of Victoria.

Her world revolved around her children, she loved them more than words can say. She was a longtime employee of C M Auto Glass in Bay City. She was the Sales Consultant for six years, where she was well known by many people and loved her job. If you knew Christy, then you knew she would do anything for anybody. She was a very friendly person and she will be missed by a lot of people.

Funeral services will be held in Altamont, KS, but her family would like to invite her friends to a Memorial Service at 6 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Community Center in Van Vleck.
