Supt. McAllister Rites At 2 Today in Bay City

BAY CITY--Funeral services for Harmon Jerome McAllister, 53, superintendent of Bay City Independent School District, will be held at 2 p. m. Tuesday at the First Methodist Church.

McAllister, who has served as superintendent here since July 1, 1960, died in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston in an unexpected relapse after what was apparently successful surgery. He succumbed at 4:30 a. m. Monday.

A resident of Bay City since 1936, McAllister resided at 2509 Ave I with his wife, the former Mary Belle Richeson, and family. He was honored as "Bay City's outstanding citizen of 1959" by the Chamber of Commerce, and had served as high school teacher and principal, business manager, school board member and president, and was Matagorda County auditor until his appointment to fill the position vacated by retiring John Cherry.

McAllister had also been active in the Bay City Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Community Concert Association, Band Parents Club, Bay City Commandery, the First Methodist Church, and in Boy Scout work.

Rev. Leslie LeGrand of Epworth Methodist in Houston will officiate at the Tuesday rites, and burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Survivors in addition to the widow are one daughter, Julianne, two sons, Jerry and Bill, all of Bay City; father, Hugh Hunter McAllister, three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Gilliland of Longview, Mrs. Wanda Casey of Fort Worth, Mrs. Dan Hallmark of Tyler; two brothers, Sidney McAllister of Quitman and Bob McAllister of Dallas.

Pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Brewer, D. F. Wiginton, E. J. Faseler, B. E. Liston, John Hill and Pat Thompson.

Myron "Mike" Douglas McCloskey

(January 5, 1939 - January 21, 2013)

Myron Douglas “Mike” McCloskey, 74, of Bay City passed away January 21, 2013.

He was born January 5, 1939 in Cyril, Oklahoma to the late Leland McCloskey and Madie Laughlin McCloskey.

He served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Celanese after 35 years and was a member and past–president of Baycel Golf Club and a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Eva Shannon McCloskey.

Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Felba Ruth McCloskey; his step-mother, Mary Ann McCloskey of Clairemont, California; daughter, Michele McCloskey Watson and husband Gary of Theodore, Alabama; son, Mikel David McCloskey of Bay City; brother, Richard McCloskey and wife Yvonne of Clairemont, California and two grandchildren, Eva Ashley McCloskey and Chris Henry Bouldin, Jr.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers will be Roy Green, Jan Norris, Ricky Zarate, Jason Graham, Joe Espericueta and Ben Kiker.

Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Jurek, Mo Quintanna, Roger Schneider, Ralph Seidel, Sr., Frank Lawrence and Ernest Ramirez.

Jane Elizabeth Williamson McCormick
Oct. 7, 1942 – May 3, 2013

Jane “Janie” Williamson McCormick left her earthly residence on Friday, May 3, 2013, and is rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who preceded her. Janie was born on October 7, 1942 in Washington DC to Grady Williamson and Jane Glosson Williamson.  

She was blessed to be in two loving households - one of her parents and one of her aunt and uncle, Raleigh and Ruby Sanborn.

Janie grew up in Bay City where she was an active member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church. She attended Bay City schools and graduated from the Hockaday School in Dallas. She attended Sweet Briar College in Virginia for two years and graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Education. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.

In her youth, Janie spent her summers at Camp Waldemar in Hunt, Texas. She was an avid reader, loved the theater, and enjoyed bridge, exercise, and travel. She was an active member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi.

Janie taught at Matagorda Elementary School and retired from the Department of Human Services where she was a caseworker for the elderly.

Janie was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt and uncle.

She is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Mike McCormick; brother, Raleigh Williamson and his wife Connie; stepchildren, Michele Ulmer and Jon McCormick; niece and nephew, Lauren Price and Chad Williamson; four step grandchildren, and two great-nephews and many cousins and devoted friends.

Janie’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers and Houston Hospice.

Visitation will be from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, 2313 Avenue I, Bay City, Texas.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 2200 Avenue E, Bay City, TX, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 9th with a reception following.

BAY CITY - Jane "MeMaw" McFarlain, 84, of Bay City and formerly of Palacios, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004.

She was born April 23, 1920, in Commerce, to the late Ben and Edna Malone. She was a Methodist.

Survivors: sons, Roger Conrad of Palacios, Bennie Conrad of Cedar Creek, Larry Conrad of Boothville, La., Ricky Conrad of Atascocita, and Rodney McFarlain of Bay City; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: sister, Juanita Hogue.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Palacios Funeral Home chapel.

Burial will be at Midfield Cemetery. Palacios Funeral Home, Palacios, 361-972-2012.

Mary Louise Snow Jackson McGlothlin, 83, of Lufkin passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013. She was born July 10, 1929 in Matagorda County to the late Lester & Mildred Jackson Serber. She was a longtime resident of Bay City, before moving to Lufkin.

Mary is survived by her 2 sons: Taft Snow, Jr. and Darrell Steve Jackson and 2 daughters: Mary Mildred and Lisa.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Martha McKissick
Jan. 20, 1939 –Jan. 21, 2013

Martha McKissick, 74, of Ashby passed away on Monday, January 21, 2013.

She was born on January 20, 1939 in Bay City to the late Ernest and Trixie Hughes McIntosh.

Martha was a very independent woman. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Martha is survived by: her three loving daughters, Cindy Purswell and husband Adrian, Brenda Duke and husband John, and Pattie Lara; seven grandchildren, Blaine Purswell, Eric Purswell and wife Shanna, Christopher Duke and wife Hannah, Brian Duke and wife Becca, Jonathan Lara, Heather Lara, and Ceasar Lara; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Smith and husband Charlie; extended family, Terrill and Jeanie Wilson and their girls; and numerous other loving family members.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Walter “Brother” McKissick; six brothers and sisters; and great-granddaughter, Emma Rose Maldonado.

The family will receive visitors from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Hawley Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Blaine Purswell, Eric Purswell, Christopher Duke, Brian Duke, Jonathan Lara, and Ceasar Lara. Honorary pallbearer will be Heather Lara.

Reba Mae McKissick

(March 11, 1918 - December 25, 2012)

Reba “Junie” McKissick, went to her heavenly home on Dec. 25, 2012. Junie was born on March 11, 1918 in the Ashby Community, Matagorda County, to the late James Luther “Pete” McKissick and Belva “Kate” Dunbar. As a “Rosie the Riveter” , Junie contributed to the war effort building planes in Atlanta, Georgia. After the war Junie returned to Houston and started a 40 year career in the insurance industry, the Hartford Company. She was an avid reader , loved her T. V. shows and the crossword puzzle. Junie was a Baptist by faith, and was baptized in the Tres Palacios River. She is survived by her loving family, her sister Barbara Sullivan and her brother Bill McKissick, sister-in-law, Thelma McKissick, Niece Ann Saha, and other loving family members. Preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Luther McKissick, Jr., Gyle T. McKissick, and Warren H. McKissick. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Louis Saha, Jeffrey Saha, Bill Johnson, Michael McKissick, Jay Meyer and Erik Thormaehlen. Laura Opal Law McNeil, 73, of Houston, Texas, entered into eternal rest at her home on the afternoon of April 30, 2013, surrounded by loved ones. Visitation will be from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013, at McCoy & Harrison Funeral Home, in Houston, Texas on MLK. Services are at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2013 at Windsor Village United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery.
