Carl Henry Oates

Funeral services for Carl Henry Oates of Wadsworth will be held at 2 p. m. Thursday at First Christian Church with the Rev. John Richardson officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Mr. Oates was born in San Angelo, Texas, to William Henry and Cora Green Oates, and died Jan. 14, 1986 at his residence.

He was an electrical contractor and co-owner of Oates-Keefer Co. He was a member of First Christian Church, past master of Matagorda Masonic Lodge 865 A. F. & A. M. He was high priest of Bay City Royal Arch chapter 315, past commander of Knights Templar chapter 74, past patron of Order of Eastern Star Bay City chapter 380 and held several grand appointments in the OES. He was thrice an illustrious master of Bay City R&SM chapter 251. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Oates of Wadsworth; a daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Bob Lucas of Austin; two sisters, Faye Ashcraft of Alvin and Ruth Haglund of Portland, Ore., a grandson, Troy Smith of Waco; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include J. C. Glover, J. P. Mielsch, Ladell Sump, Walter Lowe, Keefer Davis, Carl Schurtz, Wyatt Ashcraft and J. D. Sutherland.

Honorary pallbearers include members of Masonic Lodge 865.

Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins, Bay City Funeral Home.

Opal Idella Oates
(February 25, 1921 - May 8, 2011)

Opal Idella Walker Oates, 90, a long-time resident of Bay City, went to be with her Lord shortly after noon on Mother痴 Day, May 8, 2011, in Houston, Texas.

Opal was born on February 25,1921 in Atasca, Texas, to parents James Mitchell and Pearly Head Walker.

She was a long-time beautician in Bay City and owned and operated the Lady Gay Beauty Shop for years.

She was also a member of The Eastern Star.

She leaves behind many friends and acquaintances and will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 43 years, Carl Henry Oates.

She is survived by: a daughter and her husband, Theresa and Bob Lucas of Seguin, Texas; a grandson and his wife, Troy Carl and Wendy Smith of New Albany, Indiana; and a great-grand daughter, Madison Faith Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the First Christian Church of Bay City with the Reverend Tom Quirck and Brother Bob Lucas officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

Walter  Allen O達riant

Funeral services for Walter Allen O達riant, 78, of Markham will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Reverends Joe Ramsey and Howard Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mr. O達riant was born Nov. 3, 1913, to Alanzo and Edna Bankhead O達riant in Louise and died March 8, 1992, at Matagorda House in Bay City.

He was a former Houston resident who lived in Markham for 15 years. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Keith O達riant of Markham; three sons, Allen Arnett O達riant of Crystal Beach, Earnest Glen Crouch of Van Vleck and George O達riant of Nederland; two sisters, Alma Stockton and Ada Cain; and a brother, Wayman A. O達riant; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and grandchild.

Sharon Lee O達rien
July 31, 1947 June 7, 2012

Sharon Lee O達rien, 65, of Kerrville, Texas, formerly of Bay City, passed away on June 7, 2012.

She was born on July 31, 1947 in Biloxi, Mississippi to the late Louise and Herman J. O達rien.

She was a retired schoolteacher with the Bay City ISD where she taught kindergarten and second grade for many years.

She moved in 2008 to Kerrville, Texas to be near family.

In addition to her parents, her sister Theresa O達rien preceded her in death.

She is survived by: two sisters, Lynn Schneider and her husband Larry of Fort Worth, Texas and Pat O達rien of Kerrville, Texas; four nieces, Tricia Cannon of Canyon, Texas, Lisa Held, Kirstan Herrmann, and Theresa Stockard all of Amarillo, Texas; and five great-nephews and three great-nieces.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in Canyon, Texas.

Sharon was a big supporter of Meals on Wheels in Kerrville. The family asks that in lieu of flowers to make donations to the Dietert Senior Center, 451 Guadalupe Street, Kerrville, Tx. 78028.

PALACIOS, [Matagorda County, Texas] -- Katie "Cata" Ochoa, 88, of Palacios, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002.

She was born April 9, 1913, in Port Lavaca, to the late Cruz and Concha Ochoa-Ochoa. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors: daughter, Margie Bly of Cherino; sons, Cruz Ochoa and Lupe Rojas, both of Palacios, and Rudy Lopez of Cotulla; 20 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Alejandro Rojas; daughter, Rebecca Viza; son, Freddy Rojas; sisters, Delfina Carabajal, Louisa Reyes and Janie Samudio; brothers, Alex Ochoa and Anselmo Sanchez.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at the church.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating.

Kenneth Louis O'Connell

Funeral services for Kenneth Louis O'Connell, 58, of Van Vleck were scheduled for 2 p. m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Bob Hobbins and the Rev. Don Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Van Vleck.

Mr. O'Connell was born March 6, 1927, in Van Vleck to Edward and Ethel Bickham O'Connell and died at 12:55 a. m. Jan. 25, 1986, at his residence.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Freeman O'Connell of Van Vleck, two daughters, Cathy McHenry and Elaine Sims, both of Brazoria; two sons, Wayne Hadley of Webster and Larry Hadley of Poteet; two brothers, Herbert O'Connell of France and Gary O'Connell of Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers include Donald Dawes, Raymond Burt, Clarence Krenek, Roland Rodgers, Darwin Busha and Albert Garrison.

Fred James O'Dazier
(June 14, 1970 - May 10, 2012)

Fred James O奪azier, 41, of Webster passed away on May 10, 2012. He was born on June 14, 1970 in Pasadena, TX to James 笛immy Edward & Cynthia Buxton O奪azier. James loved to play Heavy Metal Music on the base guitar, was an avid sports fan, and Sponge Bob fan. He was a 1998 graduate of Van Vleck High School, and worked for Kellogg Brown & Root as a Superintendent. James is survived by his mother: Cynthia O奪azier of Lufkin; 2 sisters: Jennifer Pena & husband Rudy of Clute and Erricca Montague of Las Vegas; 2 nieces: Olivia Pena and Sonya Montague; 4 nephews: Oswald and James Delvillar, and Harold and Jeremiah Montague. He was preceded in death by his father James Edward O奪azier and wife Gayla Ann Broussard Smith in 2010.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Monday, May 21, 2012 at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Herman W. Odom, Jr.
Dec. 7. 1925 June 15, 2012

Herman W. Odom, Jr., 86, a long-time resident of Bay City, Texas, passed away Friday June 15, 2012, at Matagorda Regional Medical Center in Bay City.

Herman was born on December 7, 1925 in Durant, Mississippi to Herman W. Odom, Sr. and Hazel Hamilton Odom.

He graduated from Durant High School in 1943 and subsequently entered military service for the United States Army Air Force during WWII. After leaving the service he attended and graduated in 1949 from his beloved Mississippi State University.

Herman and his wife of 61 years, Vivian Grantham Odom, fell in love and were married on June 30, 1950, in Durant and settled in Bay City in 1955. Herman began his professional career with General Motors Acceptance Corporation, retiring after 32 years of service and had the pleasure of joining The First National Bank of Bay City shortly thereafter until 1996.

He loved meeting people, the conversations and a nostalgic perspective on life.

Herman is preceded in death by his loving wife Vivian and is survived by: two daughters, Cheryl Reid and husband Matt of Humble, Texas, Linda Saha and husband Glenn of Houston; and one son, Charles H. Odom of Spring, Texas; and was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Pierce Reid, Elizabeth Reid, Lauren Saha, Natalie Saha, Andrew Saha, Christi Fulton and husband Chris, Claire Hollek and husband Nathan and Scott Odom.

Funeral services for Herman were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2012, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Glenn Saha, Matt Reid, Scott Odom, Andrew Saha, Nathan Hollek and Pierce Reid served as pallbearers.

Robbin Gerald Odom

Robbin Odom, 63, of Wadsworth, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 in the arms of his wife Betty. He was born June 28, 1948 in Bay City, TX to Robbins P. Odom and Marcelle Ryman Odom. He was a resident of Matagorda County since 1972 and was retired from the Texas Dept. of Highways and Public Transportation. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and was a veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam Era.

Robbin and Betty were married February 12, 1972 in Houston, TX. He leaves behind his wife of 39 ス years; his loving daughters: Charlotte Allgaier & husband Michael Allgaier of Markham and Rebecca Odom & special friend Dustin Brown of Bay City; his parents: Robbins & Marcelle Odom of Bay City; 2 grandchildren: Cody and Carrie Allgaier whom he loved dearly; best friends Greg & Della Huddleston who are also his in-laws; and 4 nieces and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Odom Norton and his brother, Glenn W. 鉄kipper Odom.

Vivian Odom

BAY CITY - Vivian Odom, 83, of Bay City, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital - Willowbrook, Houston, Texas. Vivian was born in Lexington, Mississippi on September 25, 1928 to parents Henry D. and Mattie Daves Grantham. Vivian and Herman W. Odom, Jr. were married in Mississippi on June 30, 1950 and moved to Bay City in 1955 and continued to reside there while raising their family. A dedicated mother and wife, Vivian reared three children while working for Matagorda General Hospital for 21 years until retirement in 1991. After retirement, she and Herman enjoyed traveling and spending time at home with their family.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, two daughters and a son, Cheryl Reid and husband Matt of Humble, TX. Linda Saha and husband Glenn of Houston, TX. and Charles H. Odom of Spring, TX. Vivian is also survived by her two sisters, Mary Lois Mims of Columbus, MS and Reecy White of Kosciusko, MS, as well as brother, Roy L. Grantham of Columbus, MS. She was always proud of being a grandmother to eight grandchildren encouraging and loving to all; Pierce Reid, Elizabeth Reid, Lauren Saha, Natalie Saha, Andrew Saha, Christi Fulton and husband Chris, Claire Hollek and husband Nathan and Scott Odom.

Funeral services for Vivian will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 2:30 PM at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel in Bay City with Rev. Jeff Gantz officiating along with Rev. Chester Sassman. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Lula Mae Reeves Oliver, 94, passed away on March 23, 2005 at the Legacy Nursing Home in Bay City. She was born October 4, 1910 in Jackson Co., TX to the late Robert and Lizzie Alice Gainer Reeves. She was a longtime resident of Victoria, TX, and moved to Bay City in January 2005.

Mrs. Oliver was a life member and past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 380, Bay City.

Mrs. Oliver is survived by: a nephew, Mark B. McGill of Angleton, TX; niece, Charla McMichael and husband Jim and their son Andrew McMichael of Friendswood, TX.

She also is survived by other family members: Dorothy Lee Gore of Angleton, Linda Nell Walters of Pharr, TX, Andrew Erdelt of Palacios, Paul Erdelt of Inez, TX, David Erdelt of Victoria, TX, and James Erdelt of San Antonio, TX;

Waldine Alice "Deenie" Oliver 74, of Bay City died May 26, 2005 at the Brazosport Memorial Hospital in Lake Jackson, TX.

She was born April 11, 1931 in Yoakum, TX to the late Walter Hugo and Hertha Anna Wendt Stindt. Mrs. Oliver was a Member of the First United Methodist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1949. She was a Legal Secretary for Bert Huebner for over 35 years before her retirement.

Survivors include: 2 daughters and a son-in-law: Linda & Gary Green, and Gayle Wiggins all of Bay City; son & daughter-in-law: Jimmy & Sandra Oliver of Lake Jackson; 4 grandchildren: Shawn Johnson & wife Kim of Clear Lake, TX, Erin Stone & husband Chance of Bay City, Shanna Schmoker of Lake Jackson, and Jennifer Oliver of Savannah, TN; 3 great grandchildren: Katelyn Stone of Bay City, and Madison & Cameron Johnson both of Clear Lake, TX; brothers-in-law: Glen Dale Oliver & wife Sharon of Kingwood, and Raymond McKee of Austin.

Mrs. Anton Ondracek Passes At Age 82

Funeral services were held in Triska Chapel last Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Anton (Vlasta Annie) Ondracek, a longtime resident of the Blessing community. For the past three years she has been a resident of Oak Manor rest home here where she passed away August 6.

Mrs. Ondracek was born in Burleson County September 3, 1886 and was 82.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. John Braveneck, Jr. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery near Blessing. Pallbearers were Anton Hudec of El Campo, Jesse Bush of Houston and Ben Kaspar, Ed Dornak, Frank Vaculin and Roy Jensen, all of Blessing.

Mrs. Ondracek is survived by her husband, Anton of Blessing; three daughters Mrs. Mary Estes of Dallas, Mrs. Rosie Bush of Houston and Mrs. Ella Staska of Houston; two sons, Tony of Blessing and Milton of Houston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MARKHAM - Funeral services for Elijah O'Neal, 92, of Markham, will be Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, with Rev. James Ashton officiating.

Santiago Oros Sr., 89, of Bay City died Saturday, August 16, 2003

He was born July 25,1914, in San Benito, to the late Odesto and Bartola Carrion Oros.

He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He retired from the City of Bay City where he had been employed for 29 years.

Survivors: wife, Beatrice Gutierrez Oros; daughters, Beatrice Flores of Palacios, Gloria Cadriel and Alice Marroquin both of Bay City; sons, Santiago Oros, Jr., Modesto Oros, Gustavo Oros, Antonio Oros, Robert Oros, Armando Oros, Eleno Oros and Raynoldo Oros, all of Bay City; sisters, Maria Oros and Anita Oros both of Bay City; brothers, Sebastian Oros and Juan Oros, both of Bay City; 27 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister, Petra Oros; brothers, Jesus Oros and Candelario Oros; and grandsons, Jimmy Oros and Johnny Oros.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Sunday August 17, 2003 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel. Services were 10 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2003 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with the Rev. Jerry Cernoch officiating. Burial followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

Sebastian Oros, 79, of Bay City passed away Sept. 13, 2011. He was born Jan. 20, 1932 in San Benito, Texas to the late Modesto Oros & Bartola Carrion Oros. He was retired from the City of Bay City.

Robin Douglas Orr

Robin Douglas Orr, 61, passed away on September 1, 2013 in Lubbock Texas at the Lubbock Heart Hospital, as a result of complications following bypass surgery. Robin was born August 30, 1952.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Ray 撤ete Orr.

He is survived by: his adoring wife of 36 years, Kaye Graham Orr, of Big Spring Texas, his mother, Faye Orr of Plano, Texas; his brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Joni Orr of Little Elm, Texas; his sisters-in-law, Gennie McAferty and husband Tom of Gastonia, North Carolina, Margaret (Becky) Graham Winkles and husband Billy of Bay City.

He is survived by: three beautiful nieces, Addie Lynn and husband Jason Pfingsten of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Skylar and Summer Orr of Little Elm, Texas; four nephews, Travis Orr of Little Elm, Texas, Graham and Michael McAferty of Gastonia, North Carolina, Alan Nauman and wife Jennifer of Longview, Texas; great-nephews and nieces, Hannah and Joshua McAferty of Gastonia, North Carolina, Matthew Alan and Helen Margaret Nauman, of Longview, Texas, Julia Kaye, Mallory Carolyn and Marrisa Faith Pfingsten, of Forest Lake, Minnesota; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robin graduated from Plano Sr. High in 1970 and graduated from Baylor Law School in 1976. He then moved to Bay City, Texas to practice law from 1976 to 2000. He married Kaye Graham on June 4, 1977 in Bay City, Texas. Robin has served as the Assistant District Attorney for the 118th Judicial District Court including Howard, Martin, and Glasscock counties for more than 13 years.

Robin greatly enjoyed hunting and traveling to wonderful places, often including family and friends on his grand adventures. He could often be found with his nose in a book because he loved to learn and actively pursue knowledge. Among his other interests, he enjoyed Baylor football, movies, and listening to music. Robin was a great man and a respected lawyer who always pursued justice in his job. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family.

Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery on Golden Ave. in Bay City, Texas.

Gayle Falks Orsag

Sept. 29, 1944 鋒ov. 28, 2012

Gayle Falks Orsag, 68, of Alvin, Texas passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at her residence.

Gayle was born on September 29, 1944 in Bay City, Texas and was a resident of Alvin for 38 years. She was an accountant for over 35 years and a member of the Catholic faith.

Gayle was a loving wife of 49 years to Lee Orsag, beloved mother to Chris and Cathy and proud grandmother to Dylan. She was courageous and never let her illness deter her from enjoying activities that involved the family she loved. She found such joy in watching the hummingbirds return to her patio year after year and she took such delight in being greeted by her fur babies, Ginger and Coco, every evening when she returned home from work.

God saw fit to take another angel to heaven and even though her time here on this earth was short, she will live on in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched as she was, one, very special lady.

Gayle is survived by: her husband, Leroy 鏑ee Orsag; son, Christopher Lee Orsag and his fianc, Holli Anne Woodling; daughter, Cathryn Gayle Thane and her husband, Mark Allen Thane; grandson, Dylan Cole Thane; sisters, Dolores Harvey and Doris Wilks; brothers, Ollie Falks and Edward Falks; half-sister, Iola Roark; special niece, Sandra Brangan, Goddaughters, Barbara Roberts and Lisa Kotulek, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Gayle was preceded in death by: her parents, Ollia and Charlotte Falks; sister, Marie Pesak; brother, Donald Falks; half-brother, Radie Stroud; and two half-sisters, Margie Stroud and Stella Zeigler.

Charles Edward Orsak

DALLAS - On November 3, 2012 Charles Edward "Chuck" Orsak passed away in Dallas, TX. He was born on July 25, 1937 in Blessing, TX to Charles Vince Orsak and Justine Zapalac Orsak.
Chuck is survived by his three children Leah Orsak Erard of Austin, Geoffrey Charles Orsak and his wife Catherine Bohnert Orsak of Dallas, Stephen Paul Orsak and his wife Katherine Cecil Orsak of Dallas, and his sister, Linda Orsak Fitch and her husband Randy Lynn Fitch of El Campo. Chuck is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, John David and William Edgar Erard of Austin, and Emily Ann Orsak, Sarah Grace Orsak, Mary Elizabeth Orsak, and Peter Geoffrey Orsak, all of Dallas, along with his wonderful nieces and nephews.

Charles Edward Orsak was preceded into death by his mother and father, Justine Zapalac Orsak and Charles Vince Orsak, his brother James Clifton Orsak, and his niece Sarah Lynn Fitch.
Visitation will begin at 11 am on Friday at Triska Funeral Home. A parish Rosary will be recited at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with funeral services to follow at 10 am. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo, TX.

Alfred Quiroz Ortiz

VICTORIA - One of the most caring, funny and genuine men, Alfred Quiroz Ortiz, Sr., 92, of Victoria, passed from this world to the next on August 15, 2012. He was born September 27, 1919, in Palacios, Texas, to the late Catarino and Refugia Ortiz. He served in the United States Army during WWII and worked for the Naval Air Station in Civil Service.

"Captain", as he was affectionately called, is survived by his daughters, Lina Ortiz Anderson and husband, Mark, of Laguna Niguel, California, and Christina Ortiz Campos of Pearland; sons, Daniel F. Ortiz and wife, Athena, of Sugarland, and Rene' Ortiz of Corpus Christi; brother, Frank Ortiz; and sister, Zoila Rincon. Mr. Ortiz is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Christina and Alexander Ortiz, Micaela, Jadon, Gage, Zaccai and Carissa Campos and 1 great grandchild, Corbin Killough.

Mr. Ortiz was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Minerva Fernandez Ortiz, a son, Alfred Ortiz, Jr. and his parents.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012, from 4-6 pm with a Rosary to be recited at 6 pm at Rosewood Funeral Chapels. A visitation will begin at 9:30 am Monday, August 20, 2012, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. Entombment will be held at 3:30 pm Monday at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Connie Jo Lankard Ory
 

KATY - Connie Jo Lankard Ory of Katy, Texas, age 70, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Saturday June 2nd, 2012. She was born on May 23rd, 1942, to Annie Josephine and Preston A. Lankard.


Connie grew up in Bay City, Texas, riding and showing horses, barrel racing and spending many days of her youth on the beaches of Matagorda Bay and the Melon Creek Ranch of Refugio, Texas. She loved books, reading and golf. Connie was a University of Texas Ex and Longhorn football fan, a patriot and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. As a sixth generation Texan, she was very active in the Daughters and had a great love of Texas history and all things Texas. In the D.R.T. Connie served as president of the Miss Ima Hogg Chapter, District VI Representative, member of the Board of Management and a member of the Alamo Committee.


Connie is preceded in death by her parents, Annie Josephine Lankard and Preston A. Lankard, her aunt, Thelma 'Curly' Ham, her uncle, Rusty Coward and cousin, David Coward.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Raymond E. Ory, sister, Eileen Moselle Stewart, daughters Michelle V. Corbin and Rachel Ory McGinn, son-in-law, Alan J. Corbin, grandchildren, Travis A. Corbin, Kelsey E. McGinn and Caroline V. Corbin, niece, Lisa Stewart Davidson, nephew, Michael Scott Stewart and great nieces, Connie Davidson, Marie Davidson and Mallory Stewart.

 

Many will miss her infectious smile and her caring and thoughtful ways.


The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday June 7, 2012 at the Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday June 8, 2012 at the St. Peters United Methodist Church 20775 Kingsland Blvd. Katy, Texas 77450. Interment will follow in the Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

Enriqueta 適atie Ortiz, 75, of Sweeny, was born March 29, 1936, in Raymondville, Texas.

She passed away September 25, 2011, while surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Benito and Fernanda Vitela Cortinas; brother, Samuel Cortinas; and grandson, Robert Barron.

Survivors include: her husband of 35 years Vicente Ortiz, Sr. of Sweeny; sons, Librado Valdez, Jr. of Aurora, Illinois and Vicente Ortiz, Jr. of Sweeny; daughters, Cynthia Montalbo of Van Vleck and Melinda Valdez of Freeport; brothers, Benito Cortinas, Jr. and George Cortinas both of Bay City; sisters, Elva Avila, Eva Reyna, Dolores Martinez all of Bay City, Elida Samarippas of California, and Tina Bargas of Odem, Texas; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at Taylor Bros. Chapel with the Rev. Gerry Cernoch officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers will be Ray Martinez, Andy Martinez, Rocky Martinez, Enrique Barron, Felix Montalvo, George Montalvo, Jr., Raymond Garcia, Jr. and Santos Avila, Jr.

She was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Bay City, to the late Manley S. and Una Myrtle Watkins. She was a homemaker.

Susie Matthews Owens

Funeral services for Susie Matthews Owens, 83, of Bay City, are scheduled for 11 a. m. Wednesday at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. L. V. Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. today at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City.

Mrs. Owens was born May 20, 1910, in Pledger to Brandy and Dora Cooper Matthews and died March 26, 1994, in Bay Villa Nursing Home in Bay City.

She was a resident of Bay City and member of the Heroines of Jericho Court 340.

Survivors include a niece and her husband, Kathy and Freddie Jackson of Bay City; a great-niece L狸endra of Bay City; two nephews, Ervin Davis of Hitchcock and Wayne King of Angleton and three first cousins, Effie Hawkins and Willie Bell Copeland, both of Bay City, and Johnnie Cooper Jr. of Galveston.

Pallbearers are Adam Jackson, Roy Jackson, Larry Robinson Jr., Tony Southall, Jessie Southall Jr. and Jerry James II.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brandy and Dora Cooper Mathews, her husband, Ardley 滴oney Owens, two sisters, Dora 釘essie Warren and Ida 笛essie Bouldin and two brothers, Henry Warren and Eugene Jackson.

Honorary pallbearers are Freddie Jackson Jr., Richard James Jackson, Wayne King, Ervin Davis, Heroines of Jericho Court 340 and Rance Johnson Jr.
