Anastacio Padron, 77, of Bay City, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000. He was born in Mexico to Rito and Feranada Flores Padron.

He is survived by: wife, Ofelia Padron of Bay City; daughters, Guadalupe and Graciela both of Houston, Eloina of Oklahoma, and Orfelinda of Ft. Worth; sons, Rito and Juan both of Mexico, Ramon of Bay City, Santos of Ft. Worth, and Everado of Bay City; brothers, Marcos of Mexico, Gabino of California, Luis of Texas, and Guadalupe of Mexico; 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Edward Boren officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Helen Valdez Paniagua, 65, of Bay City passed away Monday, December 26, 2011. She was born July 23, 1946 in Bay City to the late John Joe & Julia Rodriguez Valdez. Helen was a life long resident of Bay City, and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband: Erasto Paniagua Sr. of Bay City; daughter: America Garay & husband Antonio Rodriguez; 4 sons: Paul Garay Jr. & wife Felecia, Baltimore Garay & wife Holli, John Joe Garay & wife JoAnn, and Erasto Paniagua Jr. & wife Jennifer; 2 sisters: Angie Lopez and Mary Guajardo; 3 brothers: Jesse, Lorenzo, and John Joe “Kenny” Valdez; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and daughter: Pamela Paniagua.

A rosary will be recited 7:30 PM Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Mass will be held 10:00 AM Friday, December 30, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Gerry Cernoch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Anita Collins Patterson

(March 22, 1920 - November 8, 2011)

Anita Collins Patterson, 91, of Bay City, passed away Tuesday, November 8th at her residence in Bay City. She was born on March 22, 1920 in Middleton, Texas to parents, Julius Clarence and Delza Luna Collins. Anita was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Bay City and Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City. She worked as a child-care provider in her home for many years but she devoted much of her time to her loving family and to her church. She was active at First Baptist as a member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and helped teach G.A.’s, Sunday School, Training Union, and served as a youth sponsor and a summer camp sponsor.

Her husband of 62 years, Howard Patterson, preceded her in death. Four daughters and their husbands, Rene Lehman and Dwayne of Lake Arrowhead, California, Nancy Jordan and Lonnie of Grants, New Mexico, Sharilyn MaMoun and Nouhad of Bay City, and Judy Schinzel and Glen of Bay City survive her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura Hammond and Ray, Leesa Forcier and Tony, Lena Flynn and Sean, Tricia Workman and Jeremy, Cameron Jordan and Jolynn, Charles Johnson and Melissa, Matthew Johnson and Holly and Jeff Johnson and Sara, and 15 great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held on Saturday November 12, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Bay City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, November 13, at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman and Rev. Lonnie Jordan officiating. Dwayne Lehman, Glen Schinzel, Cameron Jordan, Charles Johnson, Matthew Johnson, and Jeff Johnson will serve as pallbearers. Nouhad MaMoun will be an Honorary Pallbearer.

Funeral services for Barbara Jean Morehead Robertson Payne, 62, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.

She died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at Chapman Medical Center in Orange, Calif. She was born Sept. 21, 1937 in Bay City to the late William Middleton and Julie Inez Brewer Morehead.

Mrs. Payne was a member of the Baptist Church, a resident of Mission Viejo, Calif. for the past 21 years, and a graduate of Bay City High School in 1954.

Survivors include: husband, Paul Payne of Mission Viejo, Calif.; daughter, Denise L. Payne of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandchildren, Ben and Dawn Payne both of Riverside, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawn Payne.

Pallbearers will be Alan, Albert, and Phillip Payne, Dave Stewart, Curtis Blackburn and Vern Tyler.

Virginia LeTulle Peden, 82, of Bay City died September 10, 2000 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was born August 29, 1918 to the late John James and Katherine Beach LeTulle.

Mrs. Peden was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a long-time resident of Bay City. Her notable contributions to the community began in 1939 when she organized and led Girl Scout Troop #1 of Bay City and served as the Commissioner of Bay City Girl Scouts from 1944 to 1948. She was a charter member of the Bay City Study Club, which began in 1947, and the Bay City Junior Service League, which began in 1959. From 1952 until 1975, she devoted her life to educating children at the Peden School. She will be remembered and missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Survivors include husband of 61 years, Robert F. Peden, Jr. of Bay City; her sisters Jean Anderson, Hattie Ziegenhals and Juanita Matthes of Bay City and Ida Mae Taylor of Rockport, Texas, and numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

Funeral Services will be 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2000 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Sam Steele officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers include Marc Harrington, Scott Peden, Phil Peden, Jr., Jim Matthes, James Lee Ziegenhals and Rusty Green. James Leo Penland, 79, died Sept. 24, 2011in Granbury, Tx. He was born Sept. 17, 1932 in Collegeport, Tx. to Altha Aaron and Vannie Huffhines Penland.

James told great stories, enjoyed fishing and hunting, his grandchildren, and driving the Sunday School bus.

He is survived by daughters Sharon M. Burnham of Bastrop, Tx., Sarah L. Penland of Lockhart, Tx., Rhoda A. Hart of Cedar Creek, Tx., Carmel A. Penland of Tyler, Tx., Christy P. Howard of Konowa, Oklahoma, and Heather P. Matthews of Heidelberg, Germany; brothers Eugene E. Penland and John E. Penland of Palacios, Tx.; sisters Nell P. Mize of Cuero, Tx. and Sue P. Hawthorne of Searcy, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Jean Hashaw Perez of Palacios; mother; daughters, Emily E. She was born March 9, 1928 in George West, Texas to the late Bisente and Victoria Cantu Gutierrez. Willie Mae McGinnes Perkins

GALVESTON — Willie Mae McGinnes Perkins passed away Monday, March 21, 2011, at U.T.M.B. Hospital. She was born in Gonzales County, Texas to Lawrence and Carrie McGinnes. She was preceded in death by her first husband Jack Gilliam; second husband Charles; and her four brothers.

Dr. McGinnes graduated from Baylor College and the University of Texas Dental School. She practiced dentistry in Galveston for over fifty years. Dr. McGinnes was known for her gentle touch and her compassionate ear. Willie Mae was a member of Central Christian Church. She was a very loving Mother, grandmother and friend.

Willie Mae is survived by her daughters, Karen Wellborn and husband John, Jackie Gilliam, Tracy Bryant and husband Paul; Carey Bryan and husband Larry; grandchildren John and Jack Wellborn, Heather and Travis Bible and Luke Bryan. Her nephew Robert McGinnes will miss visiting his Aunt Mae. She predeceased her long time friends Idella and Willie Duncan and Bob Beard.

She was born in Bay City, Texas, September 14, 1948, to Walter Perry, Sr. and Irene Hawkins Perry and passed away December 31, 2011, in San Diego, California.

Survivors include: a son, Harold O’Keith Perry of San Diego, California and three grandchildren. Also four sisters, Lorene Harris of Los Angeles, California, Betty Jackson, Dorothy Parks and Velva Perry, all of Bay City, and two brothers, Walter Perry, Jr. of Hollywood, California., and Don Perry, Sr. of Bay City, and an enormous host of other relatives and friends.

She was born Aug. 22, 1934, in Bay City, to the late Ollie Mitchell and Charlotte Frances Holloway Falks.

Curtis "Pete" Beaumont Peterson
 

WHARTON - Curtis "Pete" Beaumont Peterson of Wharton, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011 after a long battle with cancer.

He was born Oct. 11, 1921, in Louise, to the late Julius B. Peterson and Gladys Hensley Peterson. He grew up in Louise and after attending and graduating from El Campo and Louise High School he attended college at Texas A&M University. When World War II started he joined the Army Air Force. Curtis retired from the Air Force in 1964 in Columbus, Ohio, where he met and married Rosa Beth Wiser and adopted her three children. He was the best husband and father the family could have ever asked for. Curtis returned to Louise with his family and worked at El Campo Aluminum until he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosa Beth Peterson; and brother, Dr. Wayne Peterson.

He is survived by his sons, Tom Peterson and wife, Rosalie of Bay City, Bruce Peterson and wife, Jan, of Georgetown; daughter, Christine Koudela and husband, David, of Wharton; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 at Wheeler Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Mathis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Garden of Memories, Bus. Hwy 59 South, El Campo. Immediately following burial friends and family can gather at the home of Christine and David Koudela in Wharton.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kevin Borak, Jody Borak, Jason Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, Zachary Koudela, Blythe Koudela and Justin Koudela.

PALACIOS - Irvin T. Petersen, 85, passed away June 7, 2011 at his home. He was born July 11, 1925 in Danevang to the late Axel Petersen and Signe Lycke Petersen. He moved to Palacios in 1930 and graduated from high school in 1943. Irvin joined the Navy in 1944. After the service he attended the University of Houston and graduated in 1950 with a degree in business management. He joined his sister, Ann Lee Petersen, as co-owner of Petersen's Restaurant in 1950 and remained there for over 50 years.

Irvin has been actively supporting community projects, especially those involved with youth. He loved "The City By The Sea" and has always promoted it. He has been involved with Local and State awards in FFA; past director of City State Bank; served as director of Matagorda Real Estate Finance; served as director of Palacios Industrial Foundation; served as director of Palacios Development Corporation; retired member and former secretary of Palacios Volunteer Fire Department; past president of Mid Coast Restaurant Chapter; honoree of Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year award in 1988; member and past president of Palacios Lions Club; member of Palacios Rotary Club; member and former secretary of Seawall Commission; and member of the local Masonic Lodge.

He loved gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren and never missed an activity or sporting event for any of them as long as his health permitted.

His wife, Letha Yearwood Petersen, brothers, Eric and Leo Petersen, and sisters, Ann Lee Petersen, Elnora Oglesby, Laura Adams, Gene Michelson and Ruth Blanton, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include daughter, Tami Fort of Palacios; son, Brent Petersen and wife Dawn of Nassau Bay; grandchildren, Amber Dale, Karch Petersen, Kyle Petersen, Spencer Fort, Heather Fort and Jennifer Fort; and great-granddaughter, Kynleigh Steffek.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 10, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Palacios with James Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Danevang Cemetery in Danevang.

Pallbearers are Terry Oglesby, Gerald Taylor, Tracy Perkins, Larry Taylor, Dax Oglesby, Trent Oglesby, Michael Glaros and Bill Glaros.

Lila Belle Warren Phillips, 95, passed away Monday, August 29, 2011.

She was born September 20, 1915, in Matagorda County and grew up in the area.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, the Rev. Austin W. Phillips; sons, the Rev. Aldon H. Phillips and Robert Phillips; and a grandson.

She is survived by: her eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 11 am Friday, September 2, 2011, at the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, with the Rev. George Ridge officiating.

Funeral services for Mozelle S. Phillips, 93, were held March 16, 2011 at the Alamo Heights Baptist Church in Port Lavaca, Tx. with Rev. Tim Williams officiating. Burial was at Palacios Cemetery in Palacios, Tx.

Mrs. Phillips born in Little Rock, Arkansas on Oct. 30, 1917. She passed on to be with our Lord and Savior on March 13, 2011 in Boerne, Tx. with her children by her side.

Mozelle was a retired nurse having worked in Dr. E.B. Sanford’s Medical Clinic in Palacios for 38 years. She served in many capacities in church and community.

She will be missed by her family and all who knew her, but we take comfort in knowing she is with God.

She is survived by daughters Betty Reeves of Katy, Lela Barnhart of Batson, and Mary Domstead and husband Gary of Boerne; son Pat Phillips of Uvalde; stepson Ira Phillips; daughter-in-law Laura Phillips Lawson; grandchildren Wallace Phillips, Cheryl Robinson, Tammy Bissett, Robert Reeves, Philip Reeves, Donna Barnhart, Gary Barnhart, Randy Barnhart, Kim Tinnin, Greg Domstead, Doug Phillips and Matt Phillips; 21 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husbands Wallace S. Phillips and Rush Phillips; son Wallace S. Phillips, Jr.; stepsons Earl Phillips and Gene Phillips, her parents, Lefell and Susan Jane Schnell; sisters Fannie Thorn and Irene Ashmore; and step-brother Malcolm Davis.

Funeral services for Bettye Jean Frida Richardson Pollard 69, of Bay City, Texas will be Friday January 17, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L. C. Cunningham Jr, officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, Texas. Mrs. Pollard will lie in state at the church Friday from 12 noon until 12:45.

Visitation will be Thursday, at Green's Mortuary from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Bettye Jean was born to Elijah and Bessie Richardson in Bay City, Texas on December 31, 1933. She passed away on Friday January 10, 2003 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Texas.

Her working career was done in three different independent school districts, which are Angleton, El Campo and finally she retired from Tidehaven. She was a member of the African American Historical Society and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father Bessie and Elijah Richardson, her husband Dallas Pollard, and her three sisters Helen, Ethel Mae, and Dorothy Marie.

She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter Anna C. Pettus and husband Billy of Bay City, Texas; three sons, Robert L. Littleton III of Houston, Texas, Desi D. Littleton and wife Pamela of Bay City, Texas and Quintin Littleton and wife Candy of Manvel, Texas; seven grandchildren Robert, Elijah, Jermaine, Trinia, Terica, Rajnan ( RaRa) and Leticia; five grandchildren Brenishia, Tahya, Robert, Devon, and Rashad, three aunts Claudia Sauceda of Bay City, Martha Johnson of Philadelphia, Selita Sauceda of Houston, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and an abundance of relatives and special friends.

Active pallbearers Gerald Vidal, Nathaniel Dorsey, Elijah Littleton, Paul Wiggins, Melvin Lott, Bouvier Dale, Thomas Young.

MIDFIELD - John Robert Powell, 49, of Midfield, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003.

He was born Sept. 4, 1954, in Grand Prairie, to Katy Graham Powell Wratislaw of Midfield and the late Chester Powell. He was a member of the Rotary Club and of the Church of Christ.

Survivors: sons, Jason Ross Powell and Ryan Scott Powell, both of McKinney and Aaron Todd Powell of San Diego; and sisters, Mary Alice Doss of Wadsworth, Pamela Kay Owens of Bay City, and Katherine Ann Watt of Beeville.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel, Mr. Stanton Quesenberry officiating.

GANADO - Flemington E. (F.E.) Pryor, 84, of Ganado, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. He was born on Aug.25, 1927, to the late Epps F. and Julia Emma Pryor.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII. He was an active member of the American Legion Post in Ganado, Masonic Lodge, and 1st Methodist Church in Ganado. He has lived in Ganado for 22 years and previously Matagorda County for 30 years. He retired after 30 years of service with Tesoro.

F.E. is survived by his wife of twenty-two years, Ray Beth Fowler; 2 sons: Lyle ( Dorothy ) Pryor of El Campo and F.E. ( Beverly ) Pryor, Jr. of Canyon Lake; brother-in-law, Whit Sappington of LaWard; 2 grandchildren: Lacie (Travis ) Orsak and Lance Pryor; and 2 great-grandchildren, Caroline and Tyler Orsak

F.E. was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, of thirty years, Margaret Stockton Pryor; and a sister, Lois Sappington.

Visitation will be Monday, Nov. 28, 2011 from 9 a.m. till service time 11 a.m., at the First Methodist Church in Ganado. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at Garden of Memory Cemetery in El Campo, with the American Legion Post having military services at the Grave site.
