Funeral Services for Rosa Parada, 32, of Bay City, Texas were held at 2 p. m. Saturday, August 14, 1999 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Bay City with Father Edward Boren officiating. Interment followed at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing, Texas.

Parada died August 12, 1999 at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. She was born to the union of Manuel R. and Rosa Maria Parada in Matamoros.

She is survived by her parents Manuel R. and Rosa Maria Parada of Bay City; four sisters, Celina Gloria Parada Sanchez, Laura Leticia Parada Sierra, Maria Luisa Parada, Crystal Ruby Parada; four brothers, Juan Manuel Parada, Jose Francisco Parada, Adrian Arturo Parada and Richard Parada; Grandmother Celina Gloria Gayton, Grandfather Abraham Gayton Munoz and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Juan Manuel Parada, Jose Francisco Parada, Adrian Arturo Parada and Richard Parada.

Funeral services for Bruce Wayne Parks, 25, of Markham are scheduled for 2 p. m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. Howard Harper. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mr. Parks was born April 10, 1968 in Bay City to William and Margie Sparks Parks Sr. and died Oct. 25, 1993 at his residence.

He was a 1988 graduate of Tidehaven High School.

Survivors include his parents, William and Margie Parks of Markham, two brothers, William Parks Jr. and Kenneth Parks, both of Markham; a sister, Phoebe Parks of Markham; a grandmother, Odessa Parks of Cedar Lane; a niece and two nephews.

Pallbearers are Frank Kelly, Kevin McKissick, Wade Rush, Freddie Rodriguez, Bubba Junek, Billy Cano and Paul Gonzales.

Mr. Parks was born May 14, 1969, in Bay City to William Sr. and Margie Sparks Parks and died April 6, 1994, at his residence.

A member of First Baptist Church of Markham, he was a 1988 graduate of Tidehaven High School.

Survivors include his parents, William Sr. and Margie Parks of Markham; his grandmother, Odessa Parks of Cedar Lane; a brother and sister-in-law, William Jr. and Debbie Parks of Markham; a sister, Phoebe Parks of Markham; two nephews and a niece.

Joyce Lucille Smith Parsutt

April 27, 1923 –August 23, 2013

Joyce Lucille Smith Parsutt, 90, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend went peacefully home to be with her Heavenly Father and her loved ones who have prepared a place for her on August 23, 2013 at Matagorda House in Bay City, Texas.

Joyce, the youngest of eight children was born April 27, 1923 in Middlesex, North Carolina to John H. Smith and Sarah (Hattie) Stilley Smith.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her brothers, William Arthur Smith and John B. Smith; her sisters, Thelma Smith Hilliard, Alma Smith Dixon, Velma Smith Donn, Agnes Smith Graham and Beulah Smith Longstreet.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 67 years and best friend, Steve William Parsutt; daughters, Karen Parsutt Countz and husband Tommy, Beverly Parsutt Thompson and Stephanie Parsutt Rula and husband Paul; six grandchildren, Stephen Wayne Countz and wife Miranda, Kristie King Caviness and husband Randall, Emily Kiser Thompson, Chapman Arthur Thompson, Kelly Lynn Rula and John Paul Rula; three great-grandchildren, Maci, Hunter, and Luke Countz; nieces, Ann Longstreet Tharrington, Nancy Longstreet Wheeler, Jane Longstreet Ellsworth and husband Tom and Elizabeth Dixon; and nephew, John Taylor Graham and wife Judy.

Joyce attended St. Mary’s Girls School and graduated from Needam Broughton High School in Raleigh. After graduation, Joyce attended Madison College in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Steve and Joyce were married on March 2, 1946 in Raleigh, North Carolina. After a honeymoon in New Orleans, they made their way to Palacios, Texas (Steve’s hometown). While in Palacios, Joyce co-founded The Harmony Club which, after 60 years, is still contributing funds back to the community.

They moved to Matagorda, Texas in 1950 where they owned and operated Parsutt’s Grocery Store for over 20 years. After they sold Parsutt’s , they built The Matagorda Shoppe and operated that for another 15 years.

In 1951, Joyce joined the Matagorda United Methodist Church and became very active in the church she loved. She taught Sunday school, bible school, was a member of the United Methodist Women and took an active part in all the youth programs.

Joyce was involved in numerous clubs and organizations. She was President of the Bay City Art League, a charter member of the River’s End Garden Club, the Book Review and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) to name a few.

Joyce and Steve loved to travel and traveled extensively in Mexico, Central America, Europe and the United States. They lived in Hawaii for several months as well as El Salvador and Guatemala

Joyce loved art, cooking (Southern style), yoga, and playing Bridge, but more than anything, she loved her family, her church, her home and her friends and was loyal to all.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers and staff of Matagorda House for the care and devotion given to Mother in the last years of her life. In addition, our gratitude goes to Houston Hospice and their staff for the love and care they showed to Mother as well as to the whole family. Special thanks to Glenda Barrett for the countless hospice volunteer hours she spent with Mother and the Matagorda Methodist Church congregation for their continuous prayers, cards and visits.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 p.m, at the Matagorda United Methodist Church in Matagorda, with the Rev. Dottie Dumas and the Rev. Virgil Ichtertz officiating.

A private burial will be held at a later time.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Joyce’s name may be directed to Matagorda United Methodist Church, P.O.Box 113, Matagorda, Texas 77457.

PALACIOS - David Pena, 50, of Palacios, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. He was born Dec. 18, 1962, in New Gulf, Tx., to the late Fred and Leocadia Chavez Pena. He was a labor/ construction worker and a Catholic.

He is survived by his wife, Maria Pena of Palacios; daughters, Emely Pena and Juliette Pena, both of Palacios; sisters, Irene Rangel of Bay City, Sylvia Gonzalez, Diane Muniz, Mary Rosas, and Judy Herrera, all of Palacios; brothers, Fred Pena Jr. of Castroville, Rudy Pena and Steven Pena, both of Palacios.
He is preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at 9 AM with a Rosary following at 10 AM and funeral service to follow at 11 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios.

Pallbearers: Fred Pena, Rudy Pena, Justin Rangel, and Jose Luiz Rosas.

Dorman Clay Pendleton

Funeral services for Dorman Clay Pendleton, 56, of Blessing were scheduled for 2 p. m. Sunday at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ronald R. Lynn officiating. Burial is scheduled to follow at the Hawley Cemetery, Blessing.

Mr. Pendleton was born Sept. 23, 1935, to Tyre and Myrtle Pendleton in Caldwell, Texas, and died Sept. 26, 1991, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

He was a Blessing resident for 25 years and was a member of the Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia Pendleton of Blessing; a daughter, Sylvia Cadel of Santa Fe; two sons, Clay Anthony Pendleton of Camp LeJune, N. C., and David Pendleton of Blessing; three sisters, Jesse Mae Woffard, Bladys Moore of Luling, and Ruth Wiley of Gonzales; a brother, Roy Hill Pendleton of Seguin; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jessie Lara, Gary Lara, Alfred Lara, Darrell Buckley, Calvin Woffard and Jeffrey Alvarado. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Alvarado and Glan Grantham.

Funeral services for Paul S. Pennington, 55, of Bay City will be held at 1 p. m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998 at First United Methodist Church, Rev. Jim Welch and Rev. Mike Toland officiating. Masonic graveside services will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bay City Masonic Lodge No. 865 A. F. and A. M.

Pennington died Oct. 21 at Texas Medical Center Hospice of Houston. He was born Nov. 6, 1942 in White Co., Tenn. To the late Kelly Bernice Pennington and Virginia Doran Pennington. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City and a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class for many years. He has been a resident of Bay City since 1969 and was a former resident of Corpus Christi. Pennington was a teacher with Bay City ISD for 25 years until his retirement in 1993. He was the owner of Penn Craft Picture Frame. He was a member of Bay City Masonic Lodge No. 865 for 28 years, where he was Past Master, served as Worshipful Master 1979-1980, presented the Golden Trowel Award May 23, 1998, Chaplain for 1998-1999, Past High Priest of Bay City Chapter No. 315 Royal Arch Masons, member of Bay City Council No. 251 Royal & Select Masters and Past Commander of Bay City Commandery No. 74 Knights Templars of Texas.

Pennington is survived by his wife, Judy Nell Pennington of Bay City; mother, Virginia Pennington of Blanco, TX; daughter, Kerry Zandra Benner of Houston; son, Andrew Kelby Pennington of Bay City; sister, Barbara Jean Robbins of Blanco; and brother, Charles B. Pennington of Tampa, Fla. He was preceded in death by his brother, James Lee Pennington.

Pallbearers for the church service will be Pete Arnold, Milton Rejcek, Bill Boeker, J. N. McDonald, Dean Davis, David Robbins, Beacher Pennington, and Jimmy Sansing.

George Perciville

George Perciville, aged 73 years, nine months and six days, passed away at the Matagorda General hospital, Sunday afternoon, February 2nd at 2:50. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Reverend Horace Goodman officiating. Burial was in Hawley Cemetery.

Mr. Perciville is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie Perciville, two daughters, Mrs. Susie Odene Hill of Simpsonville and Mrs. Lucille Thames of Bay City; one granddaughter, Susie Marie Thames, one sister, Mrs. Addie Hoffman of Silby, Texas and one brother, A. J. Perciville of Smithville, Texas.

Susan Rebecca Perciville, 87, of Route 1, Palacios passed away at Wagner General Hospital Monday night.

LARRY PEREZ

Larry Perez was born on Dec. 1, 1964 in Palacios, TX. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 at the age of 48 in Austin, TX.

Larry was a 1983 graduate of Palacios

High School and attended St. Edwards University in Austin. Larry was especially proud of his 13-year career as a legal document specialist for Norton, Rose, Fulbright of Austin. He was an avid tennis player and life long fan of the sport. He loved the cinema and came to be known among his friends as the go to critic of all films. Larry's wit was legendary as was his ability to discover fine dining.

He is survived by his mother Connie Flores Cantu of San Antonio, TX; brothers George Michael Cantu of San Antonio, and Eric and wife Emelda Cantu; nieces Marissa, Lianna and nephew Eric Cristian all of Corpus Christi, TX; aunt and uncle Raul and Carolyn Villarreal of Palacios; cousins Tyson, Desiree and Ava Schmidt of Missouri City, TX. Dustin Villarreal of Austin and Karl and Debbie Koegle and family of San Antonio.

He was preceded in death by his father Ismael Perez of Bay City, TX and his loving grandparents Bernard and Janie Aparicio of Palacios.

The family would like to thank the medical staff at Seton Medical Group, Hospice Austin's Christopher House, all his Norton, Rose, Fulbright family and all his loving friends. Special thanks to Roman Rosas, Jason Sick and Dean Robinson for assisting Larry during his illness.

A memorial and celebration of life of Larry is being organized by his family and friends.

Survivors include daughter Ramona Allison of Bacliff, TX; sons Juan Perez of Webster and Larry Pena of Palacios; sisters Teresa Gonzales and Stella Lucio both of Palacios and a number of grandchildren.

A rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM Friday at the Palacios Funeral Home. Mass will be 11:00 AM Friday, December 27, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2:30 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home for Mrs. Annie H. Perry, who died Friday in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston.

Mrs. Perry was born February 2, 1870, in Bossier Parish, La., but had lived in Palacios with her daughter, Mrs. Bill Byers, for the last 17 years.

Rev. Rayford Harris of the First Baptist Church conducted the service and burial was in the Hawley Cemetery.

She was born in Bay City, Texas, February 4, 1966, to Matthew King and Lois Kendrick King, and passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in Lake Jackson, Texas. Prior to her illness, she was employed as a Security Guard with T.D.C.

Edyth G. (Head) Peschel, 71, of Victoria, passed way surrounded by family, August 5, 2013.

Edyth was born January 18, 1942 in Bay City, Texas to the late Johnnie W. and Lola E. Baty Head. Edyth loved gardening, flowers, riding horses and playing bunco. Her pride and joy were her children and grandchildren.

Edyth is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Leo Daniel Peschel; daughter, Lesa “Diann” Barnett of Victoria; son, Leo Daniel Peschel, Jr. of Victoria; sisters, Carolyn Pawlosky (James) of Bay City, Sandy Hubbard of Van Vleck, Kathy Marek (Daniel) of Van Vleck, Lola Walker (Albert) of Bay City; brothers, Johnny T. Head of Van Vleck, Kennith “Buck” Head of Bay City; grandchildren, Cody R. Barnett and Brandi N. Barnett.

Edyth also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and friends to cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Claud “Frog” Head.

A visitation for friends and family was held, Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Rosewood Funeral Chapel.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 9, 2013, at 10 a.m., at the Rosewood Chapel in Victoria, with the Rev. John Waak officiating. A eulogy will be delivered by nephew, Donnie Casey.

Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Charlie E. Peterson

Mr. Peterson was born Oct. 28, 1930 in Carancahua Community to Gustav Emil and Alice Slaughter Peterson and he died Dec. 12, 1992 at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios.

Mr. Peterson was a lifelong resident of Palacios area.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Williams Peterson of Palacios; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Cliff Curtner of Blessing and Laura and Kurt Killebrew of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Leta Kelly of Pasadena and Mary Ellen Bannert of Carancahua Community; a stepsister, Vernon Schoeder of Riverside; a brother, Kenneth Peterson of Caranchahua Community; two granddaughters, Catelyn Curtner of Blessing and Lisa Killebrew of Corpus Christi and a grandson, Ryan Killebrew of Corpus Christi.

Ella Miriam Peterson
(November 23, 1919 - October 11, 2013)

Ella Gade Peterson was born November 23, 1919 in Woodworth, North Dakota to Senius and Cecelia (Andersen) Gade. She married Robert A. “Bob” Peterson, Jr. on August 14, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX. She lived in El Campo and Rosenberg prior to moving to Bay City in 1954. She retired as Dental Assistant and Receptionist in 1984 with over 25 years of experience. She was a life member of VFW Post #2438 Ladies Auxiliary, member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 3232 Ladies Auxiliary, member of Matagorda County AARP Chapter 1398, and member of NARFE Chapter 1148. Through the years she held various positions in these organizations, was a faithful worker and had many hours of volunteer service. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Her husband preceded her in death as well as brothers Arnold Gade, Neils Gade, Elven Gade, Leslie Gade, sisters Esther (Gade) Oxborough, Elvera (Gade) Loberg, Alta (Gade) Gillette, Marcella Gade and Arlene (Gade) Williams. Beatrice Pickett

Graveside funeral services for Beatrice Pickett, 72, of Bay City were held 4 p. m. Saturday at the Hawley Cemetery in Blessing with the Rev. John Schubert officiating.

Mrs. Pickett was born March 29, 1922 to Claude and Margie Golden Brown in Bay City. She died July 1, 1994 at Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Robbie Church of Webster; Mary Schubert of Willis and Leta Collins of Bay City; four sons, Bobby McMinn of Duncanville, Sidney McMinn of Bay City, Roy Pickett of Houston and James Pickett of Bay City; 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pickett was preceded in death by her husband Claude Pickett June 23, 1984.

Arrangements are through Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City.

Services will be held for Abel H. Pierce, Sr., 83, of Palacios, 3 p. m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. Ronnie Floyd.

Pierce died May 5, 1963.

Survivors include wife, Stella Pierce of Palacios; daughter, Mrs. Grace Adams of Tyler; sons, Abel H. Pierce Jr. of Palacios, John E. Pierce of Kerrer, La., Donald Y. Pierce of Hong Kong; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren.

Pierce was a member of the First Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 990 Palacios.

Burial will follow services at Hawley Cemetery.

Elsie Minnie Elizabeth Brokmeyer Pierce
(December 28, 1922 - February 1, 2014)
 

Elsie Minnie Elizabeth Brokmeyer Pierce went to be with our Lord February 1, 2014. Elsie was one of four children. She was born in New Ulm, Texas, on December 28, 1922 to Ernst and Amalia Brokmeyer.

Elsie graduated from Columbus High School, Columbus, Texas. She also attended business school in Houston where she worked for the WKM company.

Elsie was engaged to be married and her fiancé was killed during World War II. John Edward Pierce, the best friend of her fiancé, wrote to inform Elsie of his death. After the death of her fiancé, John and Elsie corresponded while he was overseas in the service. Elsie married John in New Ulm, Texas on July 27, 1946. At the time of her death, they were married 67 years.

As John’s work in the oil industry required traveling and relocations, Elsie kept busy with raising their four children. She enjoyed volunteer work, oil painting, and church activities. It was important to her that her family attend and be active in church. They lived in Tyler, Houston and Midland, as well as New Orleans and Carencro, Louisiana. They also lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After the children were grown, Elsie became a realtor in New Orleans. She excelled in real estate sales and always went the extra mile in helping her clients. She enjoyed working in real estate with her best friend, Mary Ellen Buccola, of New Orleans.

She is preceded in death by her son John Jr., her infant twin sister, Irene Brokmeyer, her infant sister Felicia Brokmeyer, her parents, Ernst and Amalia Brokmeyer, her brother, Isedore Brokmeyer, sister Nancie Hoppe, and her sister Gladys Brune.

Elsie is survived by her son John Jr.’s wife Kristen and husband Lester Keith of Tyler, Texas, daughter Penny and husband Robert Neese of Boerne, Texas, daughter Nancy and husband Chris Dibler of Richmond, Texas, and son Luke Pierce and wife, Maria of Richardson, Texas. She is survived by 9 grandchildren: Ruth and her husband, Jake Anderson, Aimee and her husband Michael Carpenter, Rebecca and her husband, Robert Alexander, Robert Neese, Jr., Jonathan Neese and his wife, Kandis, Joshua Dibler, Melissa and her husband Daniel Meza, Angela Pierce, and Andrew Pierce and his wife Britteny. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers are: Robert Neese, Jr., Jonathan Neese, Joshua Dibler, Andrew Pierce, Lehron Brune, and Chris Hoppe. Honorary pallbearers are Layne Hoppe, Albert Hoppe, and Ronald Brune.

Visitation will be 5- 7:00 PM Monday, February 3, 2014, at Garmany & Carden Funeral Directors Chapel, 1201 Fourth Street, Rosenberg, TX 77471.

Graveside services will be held at Hawley Cemetery near Blessing, Texas, in Matagorda County, at 10 AM on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. Elsie’s husband, John, grew up on their family ranch between Blessing and Palacios. A memorial service will be held at a later date at St. John Lutheran Church in New Ulm, Texas, near where Elsie grew up.

Funeral services for William Walter Pierce were held Thursday, October 4, at 2 p. m. at the Palacios Funeral Home with the Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery.

Son of the late John P. and Louise Keller Pierce, he was born September 25, 1903, in Houston. A life long resident of Matagorda County, he passed away Tuesday, October 2 at his home on Route 1. He was a retired farmer and rancher.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Grace Pierce Scarborough of Kennedy, Tex.; and two brothers, John E. Pierce of San Antonio and Abel H. Pierce,  Sr. of Palacios.

Funeral Services Held Here Sunday For R. J. Pinchin, 76

Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon for Richard J. Pinchin, 76, a Bay City resident for more than 22 years.

Mr. Pinchin, an employee of Southern Pacific Railroad from 1901 until his retirement in 1944, passed away Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Houston.

Burial, with full military honors, was in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Pinchin’s fellow members of the Alfred W. Drew Camp of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Houston had charge of the graveside military services.

The Rev. Aubrey Maxted of Bay City officiated at the services and Taylor Brothers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

A veteran of the Spanish-American War, Mr. Pinchin saw active service in Cuba with Company D of the First Texas Infantry Division.

His survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miss Hattie Sue Pinchin of Bay City and Mrs. Elizabeth Schmit of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Haddie Thompson of San Antonio; one brother, R. M. Pinchin of San Antonio.

Also surviving are two nephews, two nieces, two great nephews, and two great nieces.

Rev. Louis Eddie Pointer, Jr.

Rev. Louis Pointer, Jr. was the second child born to Louis Pointer, Sr. and Jewel Morgan Hudson on April 5, 1954 in Bay City, Texas. He died at his home on December 27, 2013.

He was reared by his grandparents, Issac and Annie Morgan and Aunt Carrie Powell. He joined Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was baptized by Rev. F. W. Mc IIveen.

Rev. Pointer graduated from the Bay City High School in 1972; he received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Southwest Texas State in 1976 and a Master of Musical Art .Degree from the University of Texas in 1987. He has served as both Elementary Music Teacher and Secondary Choral Director. In 1980 Louis was Minister of Music at the Church of Glad Tidings where he led the congregational music, served as a director of the Sanctuary and Youth Choirs and recorded the album, "Sounds of Glad Tidings." Since that time, he has had many fine music exposures, including experience at Julliard Music try-outs.

Louis was employed in the Wharton Independent School District and he also worked in the music departments of both Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church.

Louis leaves to mourn three sisters, Carolyn (Thomas) Bernard; Gayle Marsh of Bay City, TX, and Catina Marsh of Hope Arkansas; one brother Rickie Marsh of Bay City, TX., one step brother Rev. Jerry (Danyal) Manning, Sr., two step sisters Yolanda (Carlton) Brooks, Lisa (Freddie) Allen of Bay City, TX; one aunt E. Doris (HEB) Wiley of Bay City, TX., special Nephew, Chauson Nailor, Austin, TX , a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at 11:00 a. m., Monday, December 30, 2013 at Eastview Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Manning presiding.

Irma J. Pollard

Funeral services for Irma J. Pollard, 86, of Bay City are scheduled for 10 a. m. today at the First Baptist Church with Dr. W. D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Mrs. Pollard was born April 18, 1907 in Abilene to Isaac Denton and Lula Hettie Smalley Brim and died Oct. 24, 1993 in Matagorda General Hospital.

A member of First Baptist Church in Bay City and member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School class, she moved to Bay City in 1929. She was president of Business and Professional Women in 1963 and 1964 and retired after 32 years as chief operator of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in 1964.

Survivors include a daughter, Lena Maude Shaffer of Bay City; a son, Donald Pollard of Bay City; a son and daughter-in-law, D’Janin and Sue Pollard of Alvin; a sister and brother-in-law, Ema and Aubrey King of Lake Jackson; a sister, Ara Caldwell of Alvarado; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Mike Pollard, Kirk Shaffer, David Pollard, Kent Pollard, George Hajovsky and Joe Lee White.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hudson D. Pollard in 1983 and by two brothers and one sister, Reginald Brim, Gayle Brim and O. D. Due.

Patricia Jean (Harris) Pool, age 70, of Gouldbusk, Texas passed away early Friday morning, November 15, 2013, at Coleman Healthcare Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the Gouldbusk Baptist Church in Goldbusk, TX, with Pastor Alan Wallace officiating.

Patricia Jean (Harris) Pool, the daughter of the late James C. and Jean Harris, was born on January 7, 1943 in Huntington, West Virginia. Her parents lived across the Ohio River in Ashland, Kentucky. Pat and her family lived in Ashland until the age of three, when her father was discharged from the United States Army, and they settled in Bay City, Texas.

Pat, as she preferred to be called, graduated from Bay City High School and attended Wharton County Jr. College where she met and married Jimmy Lee Pool in 1962. Pat and Jimmy lived in Bay City, Texas of 20 years of marriage, and then moved to East Texas for 20 years. In 2000, her husband retired and bought two ranches in Gouldbusk, Texas.

Pat was a horticulturist, a cosmetologist and an avid gardener. She was a member of Gouldbusk Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Her passions were flowers, plants and gardening. She was president of the Colman Garden Club for two years, and a member of the Gouldbusk TEEA Club. Pat was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she loved to support foreign and home missions.

Pat is survived by her husband, Jimmy Lee Pool of Gouldbusk; daughter, Toyya L. Cisneros of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, Chelsea Taylor, Victoria Cisneros, and Caleb Cisneros; sister, Carolyn Bartlett of Van Vleck, Texas; and brother, James Calvin Harris of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Sho Jo McCall of Richmond, Texas.

Eula Pore

Eula Pore, 77, of Onalaska passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997 at Memorial Medical Center Livingston.

She was born Sept. 29, 1919 in Olathe, KS to Roscoe Harrison Hodges and Carrie Herr Hodges. She was a resident of Onalaska for the past 20 years and was a very active antique dealer. She was a former longtime resident of Palacios where she and her husband owned and operated a jewelry and antique store. She was a member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Palacios.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Don Detherow of Bowling Green, KY and Dana and Church Blair of Ft. Worth. She is also survived by one granddaughter, five grandsons and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Leroy Pore on March 29, 1973.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at Hawley Cemetery, Blessing.

Julia Elizabeth Postal, 71, of Bay City passed away September 17, 1995 at her residence. She was born January 4, 1924 in Dallas, Texas to Myrlie James and Pearl Elizabeth Meyer Nelson.

She had been a resident of Bay City for 7 years, was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Matagorda General Hospital.

Funeral services for Ola Merle Powell, 62, of Bay City, will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Leediker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City.

Mrs. Powell was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Weimar to C. A. and Viola Voitle Brobe and died at 12:45 a. m. Aug. 29, 1985 at her residence.

A resident of Bay City since 1942, she was past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ben Powell of Bay City; her mother, Viola Grobe of Wiemar; three sons, Ben Powell III of New Orleans, Sammy Powell and Robert Powell, both of Bay City; two sisters, Edith Reichle of New Ulm, Texas, ___ Ruth Huse of Weatherford, Texas; a brother, ___ Grobe of Palestine; and firve grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Teresa Catherine Powell were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Wednesday, August 12, at 10 a. m. with the Rev. Clinton Harris, of the First Methodist Church, conducting the service. Interment was in the Hawley Cemetery.

Mrs. Powell, who resided at 214 Welch, had lived in Palacios many years and was a charter member of the First Methodist Church of Palacios. She was born December 11, 1879 and passed away Monday afternoon, August 10, in the Bay View General Hospital.

Surviving are her husband, Fred Forrest Powell of Palacios; four sons, Forrest L. of Longview, Burton Lee of Washington, D. C., Gordon H. of Kennedy and Golden Walker of Houston; three sisters, Mrs. R. H. Rhodes of Blessing, Mrs. Lena Meadows and Mrs. Bessie Quinn of Houston and two brothers, Herman Blair of West Columbia and Lester Blair of Kansas.

Cindy White Preston, 29 of Mesa, Arizona passed away August 15, 1996 at her residence. She was born May 25, 1967 in Palacios to Charles and Carrie Sprayberry White.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Mary Catherine Priestly

Mrs. Mary Catherine Preistly of Clemville, better known as Grandma Priestly, passed away at the home of her grandson, Clyde Everett Farthing, Sunday morning. She came to Clemville in 1911 and had made it her home all these years. In recent years she made her home with Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Farthing and had been active about the house until about a month ago. She was born May 22, 1869, and was a life-time member of the Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by one son, C. A. Farthing of Boling; five grand children, Clyde Everett Farthing of Clemville, Mrs. Thelma Todd and Mrs. Alma Devall of Houston and Mrs. Lena Sparks of Markham, and Miss Gladys Farthing of Bay City; thirteen great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted by the Rev. Wayne Barnes, pastor of the Clemville Baptist church assisted by Rev. G. C. Cecil, pastor of the Methodist church. Pallbearers were Voss McCrosky, Harry Cowger, Alvin Sparks, Edward Baca, John Fella and Richard Harrison.

John Puentes

(August 30, 1970 - February 3, 2014)

John Puentes, 43, of El Campo passed away February 3, 2014. He was born August 30, 1970 in Palacios, TX to Jesus Puentes and Pascuala Altamira Puentes.

Survivors include his mother Pascuala Puentes of Bay City; his wife Michelle Puentes of El Campo; daughters Brieaunah Puentes & Rebekah Puentes both of El Campo; sons John Puentes, Jr. and Ruben Puentes both of El Campo; sisters Mary Martinez of Victoria, Frances Resendez of Alvin, Petra Zuniga of El Campo, Cynthia Flores of Angleton, Teresa Blackmon, Jo Ann Ortiz and Jessica Polk all of Palacios and Suzanne Woods of Bay City and one brother Thomas Puentes of Palacios. He was preceded in death by his father Jesus Puentes.

A rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Palacios Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 8, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Interment will follow at Palacios Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Guevera, Daniel Guevera, Neal Ward, Peter Flores, Juan Guevera, Alfred Blackmon, Reginald Woods and John Puentes, Jr. His son-in-law Jacob Ocanas will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Mrs. Ellena Purvis Funeral Services Held Here Thursday

Funeral services for Mrs. Ellena Purvis will be held at 2:00 p. m. today at the Palacios Funeral Home with Rev. Rayford Harris officiating.

Mrs. Purvis, who has lived here approximately 10 years, died at her home here Tuesday. City Policeman John Pena and Justice of Peace Paul Geissler conducted the coroners investigation.

Mrs. Purvis, a Baptist, is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Ira Tucker of Palacios, Mrs. Francis Studer of Austin, Mrs. Lucy Wine of Ballinger and Mrs. Maggie Smith of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Also, Bennie Purvis of Muskogee, Okla., a son and two sisters, Ann Cast of Rockdale and Effie Shavers of Austin.

Mrs. Purvis, 76, was born at [San] Gabriel, Texas in 1879, the daughter of Harden Locklin.

Raymond Keith Pyle Sr.

Memorial services with military honors for Raymond Keith Pyle, Sr., 67, of Palestine will be at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2013, at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Barry Roberts officiating.

Mr. Pyle passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Trinity Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler.
