PALACIOS - Jose Guadalupe Salinas Sr., 52, of Palacios, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004.

He was born March 19, 1952, in Pharr, to the late Raymond Sr. and Maria Alaniz Salinas. He was a commercial fisherman and a member of Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors: daughter, Stephanie Salinas; son, Joseph Salinas Jr.; sisters, Maria Ortiz of Corpus Christi, Elida Mendez of Houston, Olivia Estudillo and Janie Campos, both of Palacios, Delia Hudson of Pearland, and Abelia Guillen of Texas City; brothers, the Rev. Raymond Salinas Jr. of Francitas, and David Salinas and Robert "Bobby" Salinas, both of Palacios.

Visitation will begin 1 p.m. today at Artero Memorial Chapels in Port Lavaca.

A prayer service will be 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, the Rev. Raymond Salinas Jr. officiating.

Funeral services for Felipa G. Sanchez, 89, of Palacios. Tx., were held April 2, 2009 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Charles Dowomoh officiating. Interment was at Palacios Cemetery.

Mrs. Sanchez was born Dec. 13, 1919 in Mexico. She passed away March 31, 2009.

Felipa was a long time resident of Palacios, and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by her brother Tony Gonzalez of Palacios; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by five sons: Louis, Phillip, Henry, Leo and August Sanchez.

She was born Feb. 18, 1928, in Olivia, to the late Ramon M. and Juana Moya Garcia. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

BAY CITY - Ramona Sanchez, 86, of Bay City passed away October 27, 2012. She was born April 19, 1926 in Falfurrias, TX to the late Antonio Rodriguez & Guadalupe Salinas Rodriguez.

Her husband Domingo Sanchez, Sr., daughter Mary Sanchez & son Domingo Sanchez, Jr. all preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Angelica Hernandez of Bay City, Edna Delgado & husband John, Jr. of Victoria & Diana Sanchez of Bay City; sons Salvador Sanchez & wife Adelfa of Markham, Alfred Sanchez, Sr. & wife Linda of Houston & Freddy Sanchez & wife Mirna of Bay City; daughter-in-law Janie Sanchez of Bay City; sisters Juanita Villa of Premont, TX & Elfida Gutierrez of Kingsville; brother Jesus Rodriguez of Premont; 31 grandchildren; 46 great and 47 great-great grandchildren.

He was born Nov. 18, 1966, in Palacios, to David Sandoval Sr. of Palacios and Sylvia Garcia Sandoval of Clute.

He was a pipefitter.

She was born Sept. 1, 1935, in General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to the late Cecilio and Maria Vanegas Almendarez. She died Sept. 17, 2003.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Apostolic Assembly Faith in Christ Jesus Church.

She is survived by daughters, Juana Perez, Maricela Ayala, and Rosa Barron, all of Palacios; son, Daniel J. Alaniz of Clewiston, Fla.; sisters, Amelia Tijerina of Edinburg and Sylvia Garcia of Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico; brother, Juventino Garcia of Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico; and 13 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Teodoro Almendarez; and one granddaughter.

Funeral services for Robert Louis “Priceto” Sandoval, 30, of Palacios, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002 at St. Anthony De Padua Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officating.

Mr. Sandoval was born Jan. 2, 1972 in Palacios to David R. and Sylvia Gonzales-Sandoval. He died Aug. 22, 2002. He was a construction worker.

He is survived by his parents; sister, Terri Perez of Clute; brothers Alfred Sandoval, David Sandoval Jr. and Matthew Sandoval, all of Palacios.

Memorials are being accepted to defray funeral expenses.

He was born in Palacios, Thursday, February 15, 1973, to Earnest Haynes and Joyce Sanford, and passed away Monday, September 4, 2000 in Victoria, Texas, as a result of an auto accident.

Survivors include wife, Gwendalyn Sanford and two daughters, Kyla and Lauran; mother, Joyce Harris and Freddie of West Columbia; father, Earnest Haynes and Doris of Houston; sister, Dionne Sanford of West Columbia, four brothers, Daighton, Terald and Meldrick Haynes of Houston, and Jamal Sanford of West Columbia. Funeral services for Minnie Sauceda, 92, of Bay City, are scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Mrs. Sauceda was born Feb. 19, 1902, in Victoria to Mame and Mary Robinson Cherry and died March 15, 1994, at her residence.

She was a resident of the Victoria community and a member of the Eastern Star Sunlight No. 9.

Survivors include two daughters, Irene Sidney and Johnnie C. Fields, both of Bay City; four grandchildren, Patricia Franklin of Victoria, Mary Fields Gee of Bay City, Gloria Conway of Philadelphia, Pa. and Henry Caesar of Bay City; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mame Cherry and Mary Robinson Cherry, and her husband, Johnnie Sauceda.

Mrs. Scott was born June 28, 1934 to Ralph and Amy Armstead Hilliard in Bay City and died March 15, 1995 at her home.

Nanny Scott

She was born in Cedar Lane, Texas, Sunday, Jan. 1, 1905, to Ike Tone and Louvenia Henderson Tone, and passed away Sunday, August 18, 1996, at Matagorda Cemetery Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Hawkins of Bay City, and one granddaughter, Mrs. Mary Washington of Houston. Also one sister, Mrs. Nealie Tone Griggs of Cedar Lane. She leaves one sister-in-law, Mrs. Leatha Tone of Hitchcock, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, the Mother Zion Church family and many friends.

Sgt. Walter Scott

Funeral services for Sgt. Walter Scott, 62, of Houston, will be held 11 a. m. Saturday at Church of the Living God in Houston with the Rev. Ware officiating. Burial will be at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City. The body will lie in state at Jesus Free Will Holy Temple Church in Bay City at 3 p. m. Saturday.

Sgt. Scott was a resident of Houston and retired from the U. S. Army. He also attended the University of Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Southall Scott of Houston; two sons, Margwyn Scott of Houston and Monte Scott and wife, Vernary of Rosenberg; three grandchildren; a sister, Bessie Walker of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Marshall Scott of El Maton and the Rev. She was born June 30, 1932, in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to the late Marcos Arriaga and Angela Reyes. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.

Survivors: daughters, Rita Kocurek, Janie Lewis, and Becky Segovia, all of Palacios, Maria Segovia Perez of Corona, Calif., Josie Stelzer of Houston, Eloisa Vigil of Lubbock, and Yolanda Olivares of Clute; sons, Librado Segovia of Angelton, Miguel Segovia of Baytown, Eloy Segovia and Raul Segovia, both of Palacios; brother, José Arriaga of San Luis Potosi, Mexico; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Miguel Marroquin Segovia.

Elizabeth Ann Sellers

(September 27, 1944 - November 21, 2012)

Elizabeth Ann Sellers, 68, of Victoria passed away November 21, 2012. She was born September 27, 1944 in Tucson, AZ to the late Robert E. Ryman and Sarah Ann Rector Ryman. She had formerly lived in Bay City where she worked at the Bay City Tribune and in Pampa, TX where she worked for J. C. Penney. She had been a resident of Victoria for the past 12 years.

Survivors include her husband Butch Sellers of Victoria; daughter Tracy Lynn Sellers of Spearman, TX; son Keith Wayne Sellers & wife Shelley of Amarillo, TX; sister Virginia Ruth Kreiger & husband Mark of Austin; brothers William Eddie Ryman of Bay City and Gary Lee Ryman & wife Karen of Wharton; grandchildren Dasen Wayne Sellers and Kaden William Sellers.

Alex Coleman Sidney

He was born in Cedar Lane, Texas, Tuesday, January 2, 1917, to Alex Sidney, Sr. and Mary Ford Sidney, and passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay City.

He was a member of Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge #272, the Pilgrims, a deacon for many years, member of the trustee board, and Shiloh church clerk over 30 years.

Survivors include: five daughters, Daisy Davis of Dallas, Ethel Gladys Batties and Sheryl Jackson, both of Bay City, Barbara McDonald and Margaret Sidney, both of Houston; three sons, Alex Sidney, III of Van Vleck, the Rev. Irene Sidney

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Sidney, age 76, of Bay City, will be held Saturday, March, at 11 a. m., at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with Rev. K. J. Griggs officiating. Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Visitation will be Friday until 9 p. m. in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, and Saturday from 10 til 11 a. m. at the church.

Mrs. Sidney was born in Victoria, Texas, Sunday, Aug. 31, 1919, to Henry Smith and Minnie Cherry Smith, and died Sunday, March 3, 1996, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include her husband, James Sidney of Bay City, one daughter, Mrs. Gloria Conway of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and one son, Henry Caesar and his special friend, Ann, of Bay City. Also one sister, Mrs. Johnnie C. Fields of Bay City, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews which include three nieces she reared, Angela Johnson and Florine Harris of Bay City, and Patricia Franklin of Victoria; a great-niece and nephew she reared, Tongala and Sebastian. She also leaves other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Smith and Minnie Cherry Sauceda.

Active pallbearers will include James Austin, James Harris, III, _____ Jr., Leon Johnson, Sam Williams and Harry Sauceda.

Melvin Sidney Sr.

CEDAR LANE - Melvin Sidney Sr., 85, of Cedar Lane, died Monday, July 5, 2004.

He was born Oct. 14, 1918, in Cedar Lane, to the late Alex and Lovey Henderson Sidney. He was a carpenter and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Survivors: daughters, Dorothy Ann Allen of Houston, Patricia Ellis of Galveston, and Grace Jones of Atlanta; sister, Mauterine Fields of Cedar Lane; and brother, Carlos Sidney of Compton, Calif.

Preceded in death by: wife, Delores Williams Sidney; sons, Melvin Sidney Jr. and Alfred Sidney; and stepson, Albert Williams Jr.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Carnes Brothers Funeral Home chapel in Galveston and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane.

Russell Sidney

Funeral services for Russell Sidney will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. Steven C. Staten Pastor and the Rev. K. W. Bree officiating.

Russell L. Sidney was born July 27, 1950, to Jewell Sidney Macon and Russell L. Thomas in Cedar Lane.

He was baptized at an early age in Caney Creek, Shiloh Baptist Church. He attended and graduated from the O. H. Herman School in Van Vleck.

He was the apple of his great-grandparents' eyes, affectionately called Papa and Dane (Issac and Julia Sidney).

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell L. Thomas; grandmother, Almada Sidney White; grandfather, Sam "Mack" Eaton, Jr. and great-grandparents, Issac and Julia Sidney.

While attending Herman High he was an active member of the football, basketball and track teams. He went on to obtain a job at Buffalo Electric Company in Houston.

He leaves to cherish his many memories: mother, Jewell Macon; two sons, Dorland (Rholanda) of Dancinger, Texas, Eric of Houston; daughters, Enquied of Angleton, Trena, Erica (Kenneth) and Gayla all of Houston; grandchildren, Octavia, Philicidy, Trey, Dorland, Brandon, Maya, Lil' Eric, Kenneth Jr., Kelvin; brothers, Lewis Johnson, Russell Thomas Jr. (Moda) of Bay City; sisters, LeElla and Ethel Thomas of Bay City; aunts, Joyce Hawkins, Iver Johnson, Charity Lewis; great-aunt, Rev. J. J. Hilton; uncle, William Sidney Sr., Kermit Sidney, and Barney Eaton (Frankie); special cousin, Lillian Sidney Fields and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends who knew him affectionately as "Bee."

Mr. Simmons was born Sept. 10, 1910 to Jim and Margaret Bonner Simmons and died Nov. 16, 1992 at Matagorda General Hospital.

He was a member of the Baptist church and a World War II veteran. He worked for Secrest Jewelers for many years and was a member of Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge #272.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Harris and Gertrude Stanford of Bay City; two brothers, Carey Stanford of Bay City and Ben Moore of Berkley, Calif.; three stepchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Allen, Larry Randle, Kenneth Spann, A. C. Tellison, Lugene Bryant, J. D. Harris and Pleas Mayfield. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Masonic Lodge, Carey Stanford and Ben Boone.

Wanda Simmons

Wanda Simmons went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 25, 2012. Wanda was born on February 7, 1929 in Pampa, Texas to the late Joel and Dora Stansell Syrus. Wanda loved to garden and was a great cook. Her world revolved around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devout Baptist who loved her church-family.

She is survived by her loving family daughter; Shelley S. Mineau; grandson; Chris Taylor Sr. and wife Laura, granddaughter, Wanda Jolene Mejias & husband Freddie, grandson, Marc Cyrus Hipp and wife Sondra; Great-grandchildren, Christopher Glen Taylor Jr., Nicholas Wayne Ybarra, Chariti Alese Taylor, Courtney Jean Ybarra, David Joel Mejias, Cierra Chayanne Refugia Mejias, Ashton Renee Perez, Jerry Lynn Moore, Jadyn Marie Hipp and Tryston Alton Hipp, and sister Charlotte Jolene Hague of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and numerous nieces and nephews. Wanda is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years,. Alton Glen Simmons; son, Glen Louis Simmons; parents Joel and Dora Syrus; Brother-in-law, Earl A. Pearl Sisco, 97, of Weatherford, Texas died November 13, 2001 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was born September 19, 1904 in Alvord, Wise County, Texas to the late Mack and Nancy Williams Morrison.

Mrs. Sisco was a former longtime resident of Palacios and member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Nellie Slone, 94, of Palacios died at her residence August 21, 2000. She was born April 15 in Louise, Texas to the late Albert Sidney and Nellie Hughes Johnson. Mrs. Slone was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Palacios, a resident of Palacios since 1924 and a 50 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #2467.

He was a member of the Baptist church and Gulf Coast Masonic Lodge #272. Mr. Smith was president of the Brotherhood at Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Smith was involved with the Order of Eastern Star organization and the Friendship club.

Survivors include three nieces Frankie Brown and Janice Brown Lundy of Galveston and Veda Brown Nance of Gainesville, Fla., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Violet F. Smith, 82, of Matagorda passed away November 14, 2012. She was born November 30, 1929 in Bay City, TX to the late Ingomar Cameron Baxter and Ida Mae Yeamans Baxter. She was a life member of Christ Episcopal Church, member of the Altar Guild, Vestry and ECW. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4459. She loved to fish, crochet, cook, flower garden and do most anything outdoors. “She was our hero, our best friend.”

Her husband Alvin “Smitty” Smith preceded her in death along with sister Claire Mae Baxter and brothers Claude Ingomar Baxter & Bobby Clancy Baxter. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands Nancy & Charles Vasek, Shirley & Joseph Bokorney and Betty & Jeff Davis; sister-in-law Oline Underwood; grandchildren Brad Vasek, Megan Cerceo (Joey), Andrew Vasek, Bo Bokorney & Tell Bokorney; 3 great grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews including Julie Cox, Bobby Baxter & Clancy Baxter.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm to 7pm Friday at the funeral home. William “Bill” Smith, Sr.

William “Bill” Smith, Sr., the son of Mike Smith, Sr., and Sally Brown Smith, was born Friday, December 10, 1915, in Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas.

He attended the Bay City Schools and later after entering the world of work, he enjoyed a long productive career as an Electrician.

Mr. Smith met and married Miss Willie Mae Perry in 1938. Five children were born to this union.

He united with Bethel Baptist Church at an early age and served as trustee and other official duties. He remained active in the support of his church until death.

Mr. Smith held offices on several boards and organizations. Among them were the NAACP, the Economic Action Council, the Bay City Electrical Board and the Bay City Little League.

He was a supporter of and an advocate for the poor and underprivileged. To the end, he dedicated many hours to dialogue and lobby. He totally dedicated his abilities and services to his belief and to people.

He was a Philanthropist in the community and was a pioneer for justice and equality for all people. Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Willie Mae Smith, one daughter, Mrs. Grace Esther Thompson of Kingsville, four sons, Edward Charles Smith, Nelson Smith and James Harold Smith of Bay City and William Smith, II of Lakewood, Colorado, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sisters, Mrs. Viola Biggs of Hearne and Miss Christine Smith of Bay City, one brother, Huitt Smith of San Antonio, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

William Henry Sneed

Funeral services for Mr. William Henry Sneed, 72, of Bay City, were held Tuesday, April 30, at 11 a. m., in the chapel of Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home with Rev. C. B. Swannegan officiating. Burial followed at Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

He was born in Pierce, Texas, Saturday, Nov. 10, 1923, to Oscar Sneed, Sr. and Mattie Hemphill Sneed, and died Friday, April 27, 1996, at the V. A. Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lavada Robertson Sneed of Bay City, and four daughters which include Mrs. Willie Mae Davis of Corpus Christi. Also five step-daughters, two step-sons, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Also one sister, Ms. Beatrice Sneed of Columbus, Texas, and one brother, Oscar Sneed, Jr. of Bay City. He leaves a mother-in-law, Mrs. Estella Davis Powell, and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eula Mae Fisher, Mrs. Irma Stone and Mrs. Betty Smith. Also his pastor, Bishop John Johnson and the Jesus Free Will Holy Temple Church family, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a family of friends.

Beside his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Nelores Joe Sneed, five sisters, Georgia Law, Viola Sneed, Juanita Durgan, Addie Butler and Arvella Johnson, and one brother, Charlie Sneed, Sr.

Mattie Snider, 89, of Markham died January 25, 2004 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. She was born August 30, 1914 in Sturges, Texas to Jasper Harvey and Elvina Dee Quinn Harvey. She had been a resident of Matagorda County since 1928 and was a member of the Markham First Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Belton A. Snider.

She is survived by: two daughters, Gleniece Ann Cude of Markham and Ruth Ellen McWethey of Spring; two sons, Howard Wayne Snider of Teague, Texas and Lenard Arthur Snider of Conroe, Texas; and by 12 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. Howard Harper officiating. Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery in Palacios, Texas.

Pallbearers included her grandsons, Blake Pruett, Troy Snider, Tab Snider, Jeff Pruett, Matthew Wayne Snider, and Jeffrey Pruett, Jr.

Alice was born Aug. 26, 1938 in Palacios, Tx. She died May 25, 2002 in San Antonio, Tx.

She was a loving mother of three daughters, who was well known for her kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit. Alice was a published poet who enjoyed painting, arts and crafts, and her rose garden. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughters Cindy Sauceda, Cheryl Solis, and Serena Solis; their father, Joe Solis; her sons-in-law Rene Sauceda and Kenneth Nichols; her sisters Betty, Esther, Janie, Minnie, Eva, and Emma; her brother Daniel; and her mother Pola Landeros; the children’s paternal grandmother, Celia Marroquin; and her relatives, extended family members, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father Telesforo Rivas; her brother, Adam Rivas; her maternal grandparents Antonio and Simona Gatica; and her parternal grandparents Prudencio Rivas and Rosa Flores.

Visitation will be held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home at 701 1st Street in Palacios, Texas, between 4 and 9 pm. Graveside services will be held at Palacios Cemetery at 11am.

Alice was a dedicated member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and found comfort in the following scriptures: “Love is long-suffering and kind… bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.” - 1 Cor. 13:4-8. “Truly I tell you today, You will be with me in Paradise.” -Luke 23:43.

Amanda was born on “Buckner’s Prairie” in Cedar Lane on Friday, April 19, 1907 to Geneva Edison and Robert Wright, and passed away Friday, August 2, 1996 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bay City , under the pastorship of Rev. L. V. Harvey. Her life was filled by working in the church and being faithful to every auxiliary in which she participated. She also was a member of the Heroines of Jericho.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Addie Spiller of Bay City and one granddaughter and grandson-in-law Mrs. Deborah Allen (& Eunice). She also leaves her 108 year-old mother, Mrs. Geneva Edison Abbage of Bay City; one half-sister Mrs. Beatrice Edison; three great-grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her father Robert Wright, her husband Sam Southall, two great-grandsons, LaTroy Demond Allen and Alonzo DeWayne Allen; by one sister, Elaine B. Jackson; one brother, Jimmie Lee Wright and one aunt Narcissus Gadson.

Active pallbearers will include Jesse Southall, Jr., Michael Southall, Lugene Bryant, Michael Hall, Richard Jackson and James Mills. Honorary pallbearers will include her great-grandsons and friends of the family.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary A. Southall, age 85, of Bay City, will be held Wednesday, June 26, at Noon, at the Jesus Freewill Holy Temple Church in Bay City, with Rev. L. V. Harvey, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bay City, officiating.

She was born in Matagorda County, Texas, Monday, July 4, 1910, to Richard Brown and Lillie Bert Rugeley Brown, and died Friday, June 21, 1996, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Jessie Southall, Sr. of Bay City, and three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Scott and Mrs. Lois Faye Woodard, both of Houston, and Mrs. Wilma King of Van Vleck. Also six sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Ruby Southall of Van Vleck, Jessie and Effie Southall Jr. of Bay City, Clarence and Rosa Southall of Houston, Freddie and Helen Southall of Wharton, Donald and Beryl Southall of Austin and Michael Southall of Bay City.

She also leaves 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; as well as a family of friends.

Beside her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Willie James Southall and eight sisters and brothers.

Active pallbearers will include LaRoy Southall, Tony Southall, James Southall, Clarence Southall, Jr., Vincent Southall, Clyde Southall, Monte Scott, Margwyn Scott, Corey King, Ronnie King, Billy Woodard, Lester Woodard and Lugene Bryant.

Honorary pallbearers will include Frank Southall, Jessie Southall, Jr., Freddie Southall, Clarence Southall, Donald Southall, Michael Southall, Arthur Southall and Isham Southall.

Annie Louise Speer

(November 19, 1928 - November 23, 2012)

Annie Louise Speer, 84, passed away November 23, 2012. She was born November 19, 1928 in El City, OK to the late James W. McDaniel & Buna Mae Barton McDaniel. She had lived in Bay City, TX since 1996 and was a former resident of Mission, TX. She was a member of the Bay City Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and took great pride in the fact that she successfully raised 7 children.

One son Lee Ray Speer, 3 brothers & 2 sisters preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Margaret DuBose, Lyssa Murphree and Sunny Tanner; sons Herman Speer, David Speer & Mike Speer; 15 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Abiding by her wishes, she will be cremated and the family will hold a memorial at a later date. Memorials in her name may be made to Houston Hospice of El Campo, 1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, TX 77437 or the charity of your choice.

Christopher Spurr

5 December 1948 – 15 November 2012

BAY CITY- Christopher Theodore Spurr, of Bay City, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the age of 63. He was born on December 5, 1948 to James and Augusta Holub Spurr in Bay City, Texas.

Christopher was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1970-1972 and was stationed in Korea at the DMZ. Later he worked for Amoco Oil Company in Old Ocean. Christopher was disabled from a motorcycle accident in 1978.

His survivors are brothers Stanley Spurr and wife Cynthia of Van Vleck, James Spurr and wife Jo of Houston, Wayne Spurr and wife Debbie of Friendswood, Roland Spurr of Matagorda, 5 nieces and nephews and his cat "Little Bit".

Christopher was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Spurr.

Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Hillje, Texas. A Rosary will be said at 12:30 p.m. followed by the Funeral service at 1 p.m . with the Reverend Clement Quainoo officiating. Interment will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery.

Memorial donations in honor of Christopher may be made to St. Andrew's Catholic Church.

Funeral services for Searcy H. Standley, 83, of Palacios, were held Feb. 28, 2003 at the Palacios Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J. R. Gwin officiating.

Interment was at Palacios Cemetery.

Mr. Standley was born June 20, 1919 in Waller, Tx. to the late C. L. and Flo Ida Standley. He died Feb. 26, 2003.

He was a Baptist and a resident of Palacios since 1926.

He served in Company A, 23rd Infantry, 2nd Division of the US Army during World War II. He participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes campaigns. On Dec. 18, 1944 during the Belgium Bulge not far from the German border, he was captured by the Germans and remained a prisoner of war for 4 months and 11 days.

For his service he was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars, the Silver Star Medal, Purple Heart, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the POW Medal.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Oretha Tankersley Standley of Palacios; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Tommy Ellis, and Alta and Kent Barnett, all of Palacios; grandchildren Tommie Ellis of Victoria, Alta Ellis of Austin, Searcy Barnett and Wylen Barnett both of Palacios; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Ellis of Austin.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Riley, and brother, Clyde L. Standley.

Pallbearers were Tommy Ellis, Kent Barnett, Searcy Barnett, Wylen Barnett, C. L. Standley and J. W. Tankersley.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Stanford, 77, of Bay City, are scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 1995, at Moore Avenue Church of Christ of Bay City with Bro. A. W. Ward officiating. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Bay City.

Mrs. Stanford was born July 18, 1917, in Bay City to Hessie Stanford and Margaret Bonner-Stanford and died Feb. 12, 1995, in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Ann Sidney-Allen of Houston; two daughters-in-law, Ruby Sidney of Dallas and Eula Sidney of California; five granddaughters, Danita Jones (and Marvin) of the Woodlands, Denise Allen of Houston, Diane Daniels of Houston, Darla Lewis (and Kennis) of Houston and Debbie Fleming (and Ronnie) of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandsons, Rodney Allen (and Vivian) of Bay City, Darryl Sidney (and Damita) of San Diego, Calif., David Sidney of Galveston, Tyron Sidney who is in the service overseas, Shannon Sidney of Dallas and Lance Sidney of Dallas; eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; three brothers and sister-in-law, Carey Stanford (and Mattie) of Bay City, Ben Boone of Berkley, Calif. and Earnestine Stanford of Bay City and a host of other relatives and a family of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, one great-grandson; three sisters and three brothers.

Pallbearers are David Jones, Robert Rowlins, Milton Burrell, Johnny Hamilton, Eddie Allen and George Allen.

Cleta Gail Stewart has gone to rejoice with her Lord and all that have gone before her.

She was born November 1, 1943 in Clarendon, Texas to the late John Lee and Margie Laverne Hopkins and passed away Friday, October 19, 2012 in Bay City. She was the former manager at Bay City Country Club.

Cleta leaves to cherish: one daughter, Vickie Stewart Harvey and husband Roger of Houston; son, Charlie Stewart and wife Dawn of Van Vleck; seven grandchildren, Ashlee Young, Courtney Stewart and Michael Boone, Joycelin Huerta and husband Ray, Clyde Harvey, Kendall Harvey, Halie Stewart, and Harley Stewart; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Johnny Hopkins and wife Regina of Old Ocean, Dan Hopkins and wife Marilyn of Corpus Christi, and Skipper Hopkins and wife Doris of Sweeny; and special friends, Darlene and Wilber Hoffman, Patti Poole, and Angie Yawls.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack Hutson and the Rev. Bob Hobbins officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

LUCILLE CRENSHAW SUGGS

VICTORIA - Lucille Crenshaw Suggs, 87, passed away on Saturday, October 20, 2012. She was born May 7, 1925 in San Antonio to the late Worthy W. and Estelle DeSalme Wolfe.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Katheryn (Larry) Leschper of Georgia; sons, James (Debbie) Crenshaw of Inez, John (Eva) Crenshaw of Bay City, and Tom (Sandy) Crenshaw of Port Lavaca; and eight grandchildren.

There will be a private family service on Friday, October 26, 2012.
