Funeral services for Vernell Abbott, 71, of Bay City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2005, at New Hope Baptist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. T. L. Richardson, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Green Cemetery in Hudgin’s Settlement.

Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.

She was born in Hudgin’s Settlement, October 28, 1934, to Ollie Abbott, Sr., and Lena Weldon Abbott, and passed away November 21, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gwen Woods of Houston, and Wanda Hall of Lake Jackson; three sons, Eddie Allen, Jr. of Angleton, George Allen of Houston, and Charles Allen of Houston; two sisters, Johnnie Brown of Houston, and Blanche Jackson of Bay City; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three aunts; a former husband, Eddie Allen, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

BAY CITY - Willie Davis, 90, of Bay City, died Thursday, June 2, 2005.

He was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Matagorda County.

Survivors: sisters, Cody Harkless of Bay City and Bessie Williams of Culver City, Calif.

Visitation will be held until 9 p.m. tonight at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Evangelist Temple Church in Bay City, Supt. Doyle Anderson officiating.

Lena M. Edwards

BAY CITY - Lena Mae Edwards, 89, of Bay City, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005.

She was born Feb. 21, 1916, in Bay City, to the late John and Gertrude Hudgins Weldon.

Survivors: daughters, Vernell Abbott and Blanche Jackson, both of Bay City, and Johnnie Mae Brown of Houston; sisters, Lucille Washington and Lovie Jefferson of Houston and Elnora Coger of Hitchcock.

Visitation will be 3-9 p.m. today at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at New Hope Baptist Church, the Rev. T.L. Richardson officiating.

Josie Scott Green

Funeral services for Josie Scott Green, 79, of Bay City, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, at Nichols Street Church of Christ in Bay City, with Brother Joe Wrape, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Green Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel.

She was born in the Hudgins’ Settlement, December 24, 1925, to Nathaniel Scott and Matilda Taylor Scott, and passed away March 11, 2005 in Wharton, Texas.

Survivors include: daughter, Beatrice Wyche Ward of Houston; son, James Williams of Bay City; three, sisters, N.B. Greenwood of Merced, California, Ollie Harrison of Galveston, and Cody Harkless of Bay City; brother, Willie Davis; seven grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Active pallbearers are Nathaniel Brinkley, John L. Brinkley, Jr., Wilbert Brinkley, Eric Fletcher, Jr., Frank Scott, Jimmie Scott, Jr. and Clifford Rugeley.

She was born in Matagorda County, Texas, February 6, 1930, to Frank Stone and Polly McNeil Stone, and passed away June 4, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: two sons, Jimmie Scott, Jr., and Frank and Brenda Scott, all of Bay City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Wyonia and Clifford Rugeley, Irene and Walter Martin, Olivia and Roy Brown, all of Bay City, and Frankie Specht of Houston; and one brother and sister-in-law, Melvin and Carolyn Stone of Bay City.

Also a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Gertrude Hudgins Weldon

Funeral services for Gertrude Hudgins Weldon, 100, are scheduled for 1 p. m. Saturday at Mother Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. L. K. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Green Cemetery in Matagorda County.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday at Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel in Bay City.

Mrs. Weldon was born December 14, 1893, in Matagorda County, to Dan and Katherine McCoy Hudgins and died April 12, 1994, in Matagorda General Hospital.

She was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Lena Mae Edwards of Bay City and Lucille Washington of Houston; four granddaughters, Vernell Stone and Blanche Faye Jackson, both of Bay City and Johnnie Mae Brown and Irene Thurman of Houston; 26 great-grandchildren, 36 great-great-grandchildren and four great-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are George Allen, Eddie H. Allen Jr., Sammy Jackson, Carl Jackson, Charles Allen and Mark Brown.

Honorary pallbearers are DeWayne Abbott, Melvin Brown, Larry Jackson, Thomas Jackson, Tyrone Brown, Bruce Abbott, Alex Stone and Eddie Allen Sr.
