Mellie Austin, whom they named Lueretta. She grew up in the

community and attended school in Live
Oak,
Cedar
Lake

O.H.
Herman
High School
in
Van Vleck

Texas
.
Luretta confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Rev.
R.H. Paige. She became a loyal and dependable member of
First
Berean
Missionary
Baptist
Church
until her death.
Lueretta united in holy matrimony to Henry Woodard, Jr. on
February 4, 1952
. To this union ten children were born:
daughters, Mary Woodard (preceded her in death), Paula Edwards (Henry)
of Hitchcock, Texas; Anna Lisa Woodard (preceded her in death) Annie
Laura Lunford (Rickey) of Lake Jackson, Texas; Janice McGregor (Kenneth)
of Las Vegas, Nevada; Rhonda Woodard of Lake Jackson, Texas; sons, Henry
A. Woodard, Jr. of Brazoria, Texas; Theoplis Woodard of Brazoria, Texas;
Gary Woodard (Terra) of Brazoria,
Texas; Glendale Woodard of Clute, Texas; special nephew, Jessie Austin
(Rosie) of Sweeny, Texas; special friend, Mary Moreno of Brazoria,
Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Mellie Austin;
sisters, Doris Woods and Edna Harkless; and brothers, Chris Austin and
Shelly Austin.
Lueretta leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children, sisters,
Gladys Hawkins of Anchorage, Alaska, Jessie Wyche of Live Oak, Texas,
Wilma J. Carrel (James) of Brazoria, Texas, Diane Austin of Bay City,
Texas; brothers, Thomas Lee Hawkins (Dorothy), Clyde Austin (Joeann) and
Robert Austin (Grace), all of Houston, Texas Roosevelt Austin (Mary) of
Austin, Texas; aunt, Luella Hawkins of Cedar Lane, Texas; uncle, Willie
Edison of Bay City, Texas; sisters in law, Sophia Lewis and Bertha
Woodard; brother in law, Perry Higgins, Sr; 24 grandchildren, Sedric,
Trekinia, Lakeisha, Toddrick, Anthony, Richard Mesha, Brian, Lakeasha,
David, Ranesha, Quincy, Sheretta, Rickey, Jr., DeWadrick (preceded in
death), Kendria, Marcus, Kenneth M. Kenneth B, Erick, Gary Jr., Colton,
Ashlynn, Amberle; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Lueretta Woodard will be Wednesday, Oct. 23 at
1 p.m.

Lois E. Harkless of Missouri City, Texas and Ywanda D. Woodard of
Stafford, Texas; one son, Curby Lee Harkless, Jr. of Bay City; mother,
Cody Harkless of Bay City, five sisters, and three brothers-in-law;
Mildred Webb and James of Oakland Calif., Ella Newsome and Mack of
Houston, Betsy Lemon and Albert of Bay City, Carol Harkless and Mary
Moses of Houston; one brother and sister-in-law Aaron Harkless and Ethel
of Houston; two aunts, Bessie Williams of Culver, Calif. and Josie Scott
of Cedar Lane, and Jimmie Scott and Luvella of Bay City; ten
grandchildren, Michael Bell, Terica Littleton, Montra Woodard, Robert
Austin, Justin Woodard, Calaybria Harkless, Morgan McCoy, Karla Harkless
and Brandon Lee Washington, sisters-in-law, Florida Harkless of
Magnolia, Texas, Jessie Wyche of Live Oak, Texas, Lueretta Woodard and
Henry of Brazoria and Wilma Carrel and J. D. of Brazoria, Diane Austin
of Bay City; brothers-in-law, Thomas Hawkins and Dorothy of Houston,
Clyde Austin and Joe Ann of Houston, Robert Austin and Grace of Houston
and Roosevelt Austin and Mary of Austin, Texas, and a host of nieces and
nephews and other relatives and friends.
His father Mayfield Harkless, two brothers Preston Harkless and Mitchell
Harkless and two sisters; Germalean Collins and Joyce Wright preceded
him in death.

Darryl Swanks, William Robinson, Wilbert Dale, Andrew Vaughn, Ira
Gordon. Honorary pallbearers are to be Curby Harkless, Aaron Harkless,

Harkless, Aaron Harkless, Jr., and Brandon Washington.

of Stafford; son, Curby Lee Harkless Jr. of Bay City; sisters, Jessie
Wyche, Lueretta Woodard, Wilma J. Carrel and Diane Austin; brothers,
Thomas Lee Hawkins, Clyde Austin, Robert Austin and Roosevelt Austin;
and 11 grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: husband, Curby Lee Harkless Sr.; parents; sister,
Doris Woods; and brothers, Chris Austin and Shelly Austin.
