HARKLESS

Funeral services for Curby Lee Harkless, Sr. 60, of Bay City , Texas will be held Tuesday June 13, 2000 at 1 p.m. at First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, Texas with the Rev. Murry Griggs Pastor and the Rev. Andrew Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane, Texas . Visitation will be Monday afternoon until 9 p.m. Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the chapel at Green's Mortuary. Mr. Harkless will lie in state at the Church Tuesday from 12 noon until 1 p.m.

Mr. Harkless was born
June 23, 1939 to Mayfield Harkless and Cody Davis Harkless in Bay City . He passed away June 7, 2000 at Herman Hospital in Houston , Texas .

He is survived by: his wife, Edna M. Harkless of Cedar Lane; daughters, Valerie D. Austin of Cedar Lane, Andrea L. Harkless of Carson, Calif., Lois E. Harkless of Missouri City, Texas and Ywanda D. Woodard of Stafford, Texas; one son, Curby Lee Harkless, Jr. of Bay City; mother, Cody Harkless of Bay City, five sisters, and three brothers-in-law; Mildred Webb and James of Oakland Calif., Ella Newsome and Mack of Houston, Betsy Lemon and Albert of Bay City, Carol Harkless and Mary Moses of Houston; one brother and sister-in-law Aaron Harkless and Ethel of Houston; two aunts, Bessie Williams of Culver, Calif. and Josie Scott of Cedar Lane, and Jimmie Scott and Luvella of Bay City; ten grandchildren, Michael Bell, Terica Littleton, Montra Woodard, Robert Austin, Justin Woodard, Calaybria Harkless, Morgan McCoy, Karla Harkless and Brandon Lee Washington, sisters-in-law, Florida Harkless of Magnolia, Texas, Jessie Wyche of Live Oak, Texas, Lueretta Woodard and Henry of Brazoria and Wilma Carrel and J. D. of Brazoria, Diane Austin of Bay City; brothers-in-law, Thomas Hawkins and Dorothy of Houston, Clyde Austin and Joe Ann of Houston, Robert Austin and Grace of Houston and Roosevelt Austin and Mary of Austin, Texas, and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

His father Mayfield Harkless, two brothers Preston Harkless and Mitchell Harkless and two sisters; Germalean Collins and Joyce Wright preceded him in death.

Active Pallbearers are The Fella's Club, Wilbert Smith, A. J. Brown, Darryl Swanks, William Robinson, Wilbert Dale, Andrew Vaughn, Ira Gordon. Honorary pallbearers are to be Curby Harkless, Aaron Harkless, Michael Bell, Robert Austin, Montra Woodard, Justin Woodard, LaQuinn Harkless, Aaron Harkless, Jr., and Brandon Washington.

Green's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Edna A. Harkless

CEDAR LANE [ Matagorda County , Texas ] - Edna Austin Harkless, 61, of Cedar Lane , died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002 . She was born Oct. 8, 1940 , to the late Jessie and Mellie Edison Austin. She was a 1959 graduate of O.H. Herman High School in Van Vleck.

Survivors: daughters, Valerie D. Austin of Cedar Lane, Andrea L. Harkless of Carson, Calif., Lois E. Pinson of Houston and Ywanda Woodard of Stafford; son, Curby Lee Harkless Jr. of Bay City; sisters, Jessie Wyche, Lueretta Woodard, Wilma J. Carrel and Diane Austin; brothers, Thomas Lee Hawkins, Clyde Austin, Robert Austin and Roosevelt Austin; and 11 grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Curby Lee Harkless Sr.; parents; sister, Doris Woods; and brothers, Chris Austin and Shelly Austin.

Visitation will be
2-8 p.m. today at Green's Mortuary chapel.

Family visitation will be
7-8 p.m. tonight at the chapel. Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at First Berean Missionary Baptist Church , the Rev. Murray Griggs officiating.

Burial will be at
Edison Cemetery . Green's Mortuary, Bay City , 979-245-3489.

Elbert Lewis Hawkins

Funeral services for Elbert Lewis Hawkins, 60, of Bay City, will be held 11 a. m. on Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 at the First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane, with the Rev. Murry Griggs Sr. officiating.

Interment will follow at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be until 9 p. m. Friday in the chapel at Green's Mortuary.

Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p. m. Friday.

Mr. Hawkins will lie in state at the church from 10 to 11 a. m. Saturday.

Mr. Hawkins died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999 at Hospice Texas Medical Center in Houston. He was born Aug. 21, 1939 to Green Hawkins and Mary Lue Hawkins in Cedar Lane.

Survivors are: mother, Mary Lue Hawkins of Cedar Lane; three daughters, Audrey Hawkins Lucas (John) of Bay City, Symolia Hawkins and Angela Hawkins, both of Pledger; two daughters that he reared, Marilyn Simon of Houston and Tammie Horne of Bay City; two sisters, Willie Dortherine Taylor of Galveston, and Greenevelyne Hawkins of Houston; the mother of his children, Myrtle Lee Hawkins of Pledger; nine grandchildren, John, Nicole, Jarvis, Shadavia, Chase, Rhaleigh, Desarrae, My Shonique and Missy; aunt, Louella Hawkins of Cedar Lane; nephew, Albert James of Galveston; a special niece, Octavia Christina Sims of Houston; a host of other relatives and friends;  and a loving devoted friend, Joyce Marie Shelton of Bay City.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Green Hawkins; sister, Symolia Lois Harris; and by wife, Elnora Hawkins.

Pallbearers will include; Curby Lee Harkless, Wilbert Dale, Albert Lemon, Clyde Austin, Robert Austin, Johnny Sidney, Albert Griggs and J. D. Gatson.

Honorary pallbearers: Percy Moore, Willie Wilson, Carey Hawkins, Albert James, Jerry Woodfield, Robert Boone, Roy Williams, Willie Edison and Phillip Mack.

Arrangements are with Green's Mortuary in Bay City.

Lillie Mae Simms

Funeral services for Lillie Mae Simms, 70, of San Francisco, Calif., are scheduled for 2 p. m. Saturday at Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane with the Rev. Murray Griggs officiating. Burial will follow in Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be from noon until 9 p. m. Friday.

Mrs. Simms was born Dec. 19, 1923, in Cedar Lane to Kelly and Martha Edison Mills and died May 14, 1994, at her residence.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Nathaniel and Marie Woodard of Wichita Falls; a goddaughter, Gayle Small of San Francisco, Calif.; her foster mother, Naomi Murphy of Bay City; two sisters, Ella Williams of Freeport and Lisa Miller of Bay City; a brother, Gifford Murphy of Hitchcock; an aunt, Louella Hawkins of Cedar Lane; two uncles, T. H. Edison and Willie Edison of Bay City; five grandchildren, seven grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers are Arthur Jason Jr., Wilbert Dale Sr., Reggie Williams, Johnny Wyche, Rodger Thymes, Robert Austin and Clyde Austin.

Honorary pallbearers are Willie Edison, T. H. Edison, Gifford Murphy, Thomas Hawkins, Carey Hawkins Sr., and Roosevelt Austin.

Arrangements are with Green's Mortuary of Bay City.

Woodard

On August 9, 1934 , a baby girl was born to Jessie and Mellie Austin, whom they named Lueretta. She grew up in the Cedar Lane community and attended school in Live Oak, Cedar Lake and O.H. Herman High School in Van Vleck , Texas .

Luretta confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Rev. R. H. Paige. She became a loyal and dependable member of
First Berean Missionary Baptist Church until her death.

Lueretta united in holy matrimony to Henry Woodard, Jr. on
February 4, 1952 . To this union ten children were born: daughters, Mary Woodard (preceded her in death), Paula Edwards (Henry) of Hitchcock, Texas; Anna Lisa Woodard (preceded her in death) Annie Laura Lunford (Rickey) of Lake Jackson, Texas; Janice McGregor (Kenneth) of Las Vegas, Nevada; Rhonda Woodard of Lake Jackson, Texas; sons, Henry A. Woodard, Jr. of Brazoria, Texas; Theoplis Woodard of Brazoria, Texas; Gary Woodard (Terra) of Brazoria,
Texas; Glendale Woodard of Clute, Texas; special nephew, Jessie Austin (Rosie) of Sweeny, Texas; special friend, Mary Moreno of Brazoria, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie and Mellie Austin; sisters, Doris Woods and Edna Harkless; and brothers, Chris Austin and Shelly Austin.

Lueretta leaves to cherish her memories, her loving children, sisters, Gladys Hawkins of Anchorage, Alaska, Jessie Wyche of Live Oak, Texas, Wilma J. Carrel (James) of Brazoria, Texas, Diane Austin of Bay City, Texas; brothers, Thomas Lee Hawkins (Dorothy), Clyde Austin (Joeann) and Robert Austin (Grace), all of Houston, Texas Roosevelt Austin (Mary) of Austin, Texas; aunt, Luella Hawkins of Cedar Lane, Texas; uncle, Willie Edison of Bay City, Texas; sisters in law, Sophia Lewis and Bertha Woodard; brother in law, Perry Higgins, Sr; 24 grandchildren, Sedric, Trekinia, Lakeisha, Toddrick, Anthony, Richard Mesha, Brian, Lakeasha, David, Ranesha, Quincy, Sheretta, Rickey, Jr., DeWadrick (preceded in death), Kendria, Marcus, Kenneth M. Funeral services for Lueretta Woodard will be Wednesday, Oct. 23 at
1 p.m. at the First Berean Missionary Baptist Church , Cedar Lane, Texas .

Visitation was at Greenís Mortuary, 2702 Avenue C,
