TRESPALACIOS BAPTIST CHURCH

1860 - 1865


1860


JANUARY 1860—The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on the third Sabbath in January for the purpose of calling a Pastor and chose Brother D M Wheeler, Mod. It was moved and seconded that we call Brother Loudermilk for the term of twelve months and for the Church to communicate to him of the proceedings of the Church. Done in Conference D M Wheeler Moderator     H Yeamans Clerk


March 4, 1860--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on the 4th of March. Brother Loudermilk having excepted the call of the Church presided as Moderator.

1st. The door of the Church was opened for the reception of Members.

2nd. The Committee that was appointed to wait on Brother Wiley Kuykendall made a report that said Brother Kuykendall refused to make reconciliation whereupon a motion was made and seconded to exclude Brother Kuykendall from the fellowship of the Church. APRIL CONFERENCE-- The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in April. Brother Loudermilk Mod. Having no special business before Conference we adjourned. Bro. J J Loudermilk, Mod.     Horace Yeamans Clerk.


SEPTEMBER-- The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath ends September.    Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. The door of the Church was opened for the reception of members after which we adjourned. Sabbath morning after divine service the Church again went into Conference and the opportunity was extended for the reception of members and while singing a hymn Pleasant a coloured man Mr. Lunn’s presented himself for membership and was rec’d and in the afternoon Mrs. McIntire formally of the Methodist Church took up her Cross and both were baptized the same day after which the Church proceeded to elect Delegate[s] to the coming Association Brethern John Moore, Horace Yeamans and John B Smith were elected. OCTOBER-- The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in October.   Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.

On Sabbath afternoon the Door again was opened for the reception of Members and while singing a Hymn Mr. J McIntire formerly of the Methodist Church and George a colored man of the Estate of Wm. McCrosky was received in Christian fellowship and to be baptized at the next monthly meeting. J J Loudermilk, Mod.     H Yeamans Clerk


NOVEMBER-- The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in November.   Brother Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. The Door of the Church was opened for the reception of members. Having no special business Conference adjourned. Sabbath after service according to previous appointment those candidates were baptized by Brother Loudermilk.


DECEMBER-- The Trespalacios Church in Conference, having no business we adjourned.


1861


JANUARY 1861-- The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in January and chose Brother Moore Mod. It was moved and seconded that we call Brother J J Loudermilk to preach for us for the year 1861. He was therefore unanimously chosen Pastor of the Church and the Clerk of said Church was to communicate to Brother Loudermilk the call and proceedings of the Church. FEBRUARY CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in February. Bro. D M Wheeler Moderator and having no special business Conference adjourned. D M Wheeler, Mod.     H Yeamans Clark.


MARCH CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in March. D M Wheeler presiding, having no unfinished business we adjourned. D M Wheeler, Mod.     H Yeamans Clerk.


APRIL CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in April. Brother J J Loudermilk Moderator having excepted the call of the church and having no special business before the Conference we adjourned. Brother Loudermilk Mod.     Horace Yeamans Clerk.


MAY CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in May.   Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. The Door of the Church was open for the reception of Members and while singing a Hymn Brother Ried and Sister Martha J. Ried presented their Letter for membership from Wharton Church and were received. And while the opportunity was extended Sister Martha E. Golden presented her letter in full fellowship from New Salem Baptist Church and was received and the right hand of fellowship given after which Conference adjourned. Done in Conference. Bro. JUNE CONFERENCE


JULY CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in July.   Bro. J J Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. The Door of the Church was opened for the reception of members and while singing a Hymn a colored woman of Brother Wheeler’s presented herself for membership and was received. On Sabbath in the afternoon the Church attended to the ordinance of Baptism. The difficulty relating to Brother McIntire was laid over to our next regular Conference. Bro. AUGUST CONFERENCE--According to previous arrangement the Church met on the first Sabbath and the Saturday before in August and protracted the Meeting eight days. On Tuesday evening the Church went into Conference and reference from the previous Conference was taken up relating to Brother McIntire then he arose and made satisfactory acknowledgment and was received in full fellowship with the Church.

Tuesday evening an invitation was given for mourners to come to the anxious seat for the prayers of the Church. Several came forward for the prayers of the Church. Brother Simms came forward and related his past experience and his wanderings and desired again to unite with the people of God. On motion and seconded he was received into full fellowship with the Church. The meeting was protracted from day to day and on Saturday the door of the Church was opened for the reception of members and while singing a Hymn Thomas Ried and Jack Wheeler related their experience and were received at four in the afternoon they were baptized. On motion and seconded D M Wheeler, J McIntire and Brother S Ried chosen as Delegates to the coming Association. Done in Conference. J J Loudermilk, Mod.     Horace Yeamans, Ch Clerk.


SEPTEMBER CONFERENCE--No business transactions.


OCTOBER--No. Conference.


NOVEMBER CONFERENCE--After divine service the Church met in Conference, having no business we adjourned. Bro. J J Loudermilk, Moderator     H Yeamans Ch Clerk.


DECEMBER CONFERENCE 1861--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in December.

1st. The door of the Church was opened for the reception of Members.

2nd. We proceeded to elect a Pastor for the Church. On motion and seconded Brother J J Loudermilk was unanimously elected to preach for us the next year 1862 for which services the Church are to pay him one hundred dollars.

On Sabbath following after divine service the Church went into Conference and the door was opened for the reception of members and while singing a Hymn sister Cloe Pybus presented her letter in full fellowship from Old Cany church and was received and extended to her the right hand of fellowship after which we partook of the Lords Supper. 1862


JANUARY 1862--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in the New Year 1862.

1st. The door of the Church was opened for the reception of members.

2nd. It was moved and seconded that there be a Committee appointed to revize the Rules of Decorum. Brethern D M Wheeler, J McIntire and John Moore were appointed a Committee and to report the same to the next Conference after which Conference adjourned. FEBRUARY CONFERENCE 1862--The Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in February and chose Brother D M Wheeler Moderator references were call[ed] for revision made a report and Rule 10 was submitted the Church for the adoption or rejection and finding it not practicable to enforce said Rule it was rejected and submitted one in its place and was received after which Conference adjourned. MARCH 1862--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in March. Brother Loudermilk, Mod.

The door of the Church was opened for the reception of members and singing a Hymn Sister Janette Partain the wife of Robert Partain presented herself for membership and was received. The opportunity was extended and Sidney a colored man of Brother Wheeler’s professed faith in Christ and was received and the right hand of Christian fellowship given and on Sabbath A. M. MAY 1862--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in May, Brother J J Loudermilk, Moderator.

JUNE 1862--After divine service the Church met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in June.

JULY 1862--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in July.   Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. The Door of the Church was opened for the reception of members and while singing a Hymn Sister Julia Oneal presented her letter from Sumpter Baptist Church, Trinity County, Texas and was received and the right hand of fellowship given after which Conference adjourned. AUGUST 1862--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in August. Bro. J J Loudermilk, Moderator.

1st. The opportunity was given for the reception of members.

2nd. A call for unsettled business after which the Church received a Letter from Brother Simms dated 30th of July, 1862 making satisfactory acknowledgments of his error and ask the Church to forgive him and on motion and seconded he was restored to full Fellowship. After which the Church proceeded to elect Delegates to the coming Association. Brother D M Wheeler, S Ried and Horace Yeamans were elected and also the Clerk was to prepare the Letter to stand up to the Association, after which Conference adjourned. SEPTEMBER 1862--The Trespalacios Baptist after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in September. Bro J J Loudermilk, Moderator. The Letter to the Association being read on motion and seconded it was approved. Having no other business Conference adjourned. Horace Yeamans, Ch Clerk.


OCTOBER CONFERENCE 1862.

DECEMBER CONFERENCE--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in December and chose Brother D M Wheeler Moderator. It was moved and seconded that we call Bro, J J Loudermilk again for the year 1863 and were to pay him the same as last year $100 dollars. FEBRUARY 1863--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in February, Bro, J J Loudermilk Moderator. There being no special business before Conference and Brother Loudermilk having excepted the call of the Church for the year 1863 after which Conference adjourned. Horace Yeamans,Clk.

JUNE CONFERENCE--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in May, Bro. J J Loudermilk, Mod. And having no special business Conference adjourned. J J Loudermilk, Moderator     H Yeamans, Clerk.


JULY 1863--No. Conference.


AUGUST--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in August. Bro. J J Loudermilk Moderator and proceeded to elect Delegates for the coming Association. Accordingly Brother Robert Partain, D M Wheeler and Horace Yeamans were elected. SEPTEMBER—The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in September. Bro. J J Loudermilk Moderator and references were call for, the Letter to the coming Association was read and approved, having no other business Conference adjourned. OCTOBER 1863.


NOVEMBER 1863--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference, Brother J J Loudermilk Moderator and having a special business Conference adjourned. Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.     H Yeamans, Clk.


DECEMBER 1863--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference and chose Brother D M Wheeler M’d and it was moved and seconded that we call Brother Loudermilk again for the term of one year for 1864 for which the Church agree to pay him one hundred Dollars or its equivalent in the Current money of the Country. Done and Conference. D M Wheeler, Moderator.     H Yeamans, Ch Clk.

MARCH CONFERENCE 1864--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in March. Brother J J Loudermilk, Moderator. After inquiry for business matters, Sister Jane Lacy arose and stated to the Church that she had been dancing and had thereby violated the Rules of the Church for which she was sorry but still she did not think she had sinned or done anything wrong. On motion and seconded we adjourned the next regular Conference. Brother J J Loudermilk, Mod.     H Yeamans, Clk.


APRIL--No Conference.


MAY CONFERENCE--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in May. Brother Loudermilk Moderator.

1st. The Door of the Church was opened for the reception of members.

2nd. Brother Moderator called for unsettled business, after reading minutes of the last Conference, after some delay there was a motion in seconded to adjourn the case in relation to Sister Jane Lacy to the next regular Conference.

3rd. A charge was brought against Sister Susan and Sister Emma Deckrow and on motion and seconded their cases were adjourned to the next regular Conference and a Committee of three were appointed viz Sister Wheeler, Sister Ried and Sister Smith to labor with and to restore if possible those three offenders.

4th. A charge was brought against a coloured Brother Jake, Mr. Grimes servant for stealing a Boat and running to the Enemy and on motion and seconded he was unanimously excluded. J J Loudermilk, Moderator     H Yeamans, Clk.


JUNE CONFERENCE--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in June.   Bro. J J Loudermilk, Mod.

1st. Brother Moderator called for unfinished business and after reading of the minutes of the last Conference. The Committee made a report and that they had failed to accomplish the object for which they were appointed and on motion and seconded Sister Jane Lacy was excluded from the Fellowship of the Church for dancing at a party.

2nd. On Motion and seconded Sister Susan and Sister Emma Deckrow were both excluded for the fore mentioned offence. Done in Conference. Bro. J J Loudermilk, Monde.     H Yeamans, Clk.


JULY 1864. AUGUST CONFERENCE--The Baptist Church of Trespalacios after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in August.  Bro. J J Loudermilk, and Moderator.

1st. The door of the Church was opened for the reception of members.

2nd. Brother Moderator called for references.

3rd. On motion and seconded Delegates were elected to the Association held in October next, viz R. Partain, H Yeamans and J McIntyre.

4th. On motion and seconded there was an appointment of a protracted meeting to be held on the first of November next and Brother Noah Hill to be invited to assist us in said meeting and Brother Clerk was to inform said Brother Hill of the proceedings of the Church.

5th. Brother Elijah Deckrow was presented before the Church for disorderly talk (?) And on motion and seconded the Clerk was to communicate to him the proceedings of the Church for reconciliation.

6th. On motion and seconded there was a call Conference appointed to settle difficulties that had previously been presented against Patience a colored woman of Mr. Grimes for disorderly walk. The Church met accordingly and after divine service proceeded to business. On motion and seconded for exclusion, before the vote was taken there was a motion and seconded for an adjournment to the next Conference. Bro. J J Loudermilk, Mod.     H Yeamans, Clerk.


DECEMBER CONFERENCE--After divine service the Church met in Conference.  Brother Hinds, Moderator

References were called for when the Clerk arose and begged to be excused from the reading of the minutes. On motion the Conference adjourned. Brother Hinds, Moderator     H Yeamans, Clerk.


1865


JANUARY 1865—The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the second Sabbath in January and chose Brother D M Wheeler Moderator.

1st. And on motion and seconded Brother Hynds was unanimously elected Pastor of this Church. The Church on her part agrees to pay the said brother Hynds one hundred dollars in par money for the term of twelve months or in proportion to his services. The Clerk was instructed to communicate by letter the proceeding of this Church to said Brother Hynds and inform him of the same.

2nd. On motion and seconded there was a Committee of four, viz J McIntire, S Ried and Horace Yeamans elected a joint Committee to draft Resolutions for the Church.


FEBRUARY—The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in February and chose Brother D M Wheeler Moderator.

1st. The Committee to him was refered the drafting of resolutions made a report and on motion and seconded the report was adopted.

2nd. References were taken up from a called Conference held in August relative to Patience a coloured woman of Mr. Grimes and on motion and seconded she was excluded from the Fellowship of the Church. D M Wheeler, Mod.     Horace Yeamans Clerk.


AUGUST CONFERENCE 1865--The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in August and chose Brother Pierce Moderator. The door of the Church was opened for reception of members.

2nd. There was a charge brought against Brother McIntire for fighting, and that on the Sabbath, and on motion and seconded there was a Committee of two viz, Brethern Robert Partain and John Moore appointed to wait on said offending Brother.

3rd. On motion and seconded the following Brethern were elected Delegates to the coming Association held at Wharton Church in October next. Brethren D M Wheeler, Robert Partain and Horace Yeamans after which the Conference adjourned. Bro. Pierce, Moderator.     H Yeamans Clerk.


SEPTEMBER CONFERENCE—The Trespalacios Baptist Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in September.  Brother Pierce, Moderator.

1st. They open the door of the Church.

2nd. References from the August Conference were taken up when Brother McIntire arose and stated that the charge was all true, that he did fight and was not sorry for it but that he was sorry that he had broken the Rules of the Church and violated the Sabbath and on motion and seconded, his case was adjourned. The next Conference after which the said Brother arose and stated that when he joined this Church he thought that it was a Christian Church but he did not think so now and would withdraw from it and on motion and seconded he was unanimously excluded from the fellowship of the Church.

3rd. After which the letter to the Association was read and approved.

4th. A charge was brought against Brother Jack Wheeler for cruelty treating a dumb Beast and on motion and seconded Brethren John Moore and H Yeamans were appointed a Committee to wait on said Brother, after which Conference adjourned. Brother C N Pierce, Moderator     H Yeamans, Clerk.


NOVEMBER CONFERENCE—The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in November and chose Brother Loudermilk Moderator and after the usual form proceeded to business when references were taken up from the preceding Conference relative to Brother Jack Wheeler. The Committee to whom the case was refered made a report and was received and on motion and seconded the said Brother Jack W. stands acquited and in full fellowship with the Church, after which there was a charge brought against Sister Smith of Cashes Creek were having joined the Carnelites and on motion and seconded there was a Committee of three, viz Brethern John Moore, Robert Partain and D M Wheeler appointed to labour with and restore if possible the said Sister and to make their report to the next Conference. DECEMBER CONFERENCE 1865--The Trespalacios Church after divine service met in Conference on Saturday before the first Sabbath in December, Brother Pierce Moderator, and after the usual form, references were called for, the Committee to whom was refered the case of Sister Smith, made a report in on motion and seconded the case was adjourned to the next Conference.
