NEWSOM, LOWELL GENE

Gene Newsom - BAY CITY [Matagorda County, Texas]

BAY CITY - Gene "Pop" Newsom, 72, of Bay City, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005.

He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Ganado, to the late Lowell Isaac and Mary Idell Kay Newsom. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors: daughter, Melinda Newsom of College Station; sons, Billy Newsom of the Dallas area, David Newsom and Kevin Newsom, both of College Station; sister, Clara Matura of Wadsworth; and two grandchildren.

Family visitation will be 5-7 p.m. tonight at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel, the Revs. Lee Watson and Paul Goodman officiating.

Burial with military honors will be at Cedarvale Cemetery [Roselawn Memorial Park]. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-4613.

NORRIS, HARRY E.

BAY CITY, [Matagorda County, Texas] -- Harry E. Norris, 76, of Bay City, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002.

He was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Bay City, to the late Harry and Maude Alice Lowe Norris. He was the owner of Landmark Real Estate and previously worked in the rice farming and livestock production business. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bay City Lodge No. 865, Order of the Eastern Star and Matagorda County Board of Realtors. He was on the board of directors of the Jackson Electric Cooperative and San Miguel Electric Cooperative Inc. and former Gulf Coast Shrine Club president. He graduated from Bay City High School and attended Wharton County Junior College, the University of Houston and University of Texas, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and ROTC. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors: wife, Johnna Ruth Norris; son, Harry Allen Norris, Jr. of Bay City; sister, Margaret Norris Thornton; and one grandson.

Family visitation will be 3-5 p.m. today at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, the Revs. Pauline Harvey and Harley Savage officiating. Burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, 979-245-4613.
