Killed In Vietnam Honored Posthumously

Staff Sgt. Larry K. Kaiser, 26, of Columbus, a native of Victoria, has been awarded posthumously the Bronze Star Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster for Heroism, Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam G. Kaiser of Columbus have been informed.

Sgt. Kaiser was killed in action in Vietnam on April 30. He was buried May 11 in Victoria.

He had been promoted to the rank of staff sergeant, permanent, on April 29.

Prior to his death, he had been awarded the Bronze Star Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Badge with rifle bar, Sharpshooter Badge with machine gun bar, and the Marksman Badge with automatic rifle bar.

Sgt. Kaiser had also received from the government of South Vietnam, the Civil Action Medal First Class and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with Palm.

Kaiser had been posthumously promoted to the rank of staff sergeant, permanent, on April 29. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and his father, Sam G. Kaiser is currently employed by J. L. Drymalla Construction Co. here in Columbus.

Ann is buried beside her son at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Victoria, Texas. She and her husband Samuel G. Kaiser are the parents of Staff Sergeant Larry Kurt Kaiser (September 3, 1943 - April 30, 1970), United States Army who was killed in action at Binh Thuy, South Vietnam. At the time of his enlistment the family was living in Bay City and at the time of his death his family lived in Columbus, Texas.

Ann C. Kaiser, 82, of Weimar, passed away Friday, March 24, [2006] at her home.

 

She was born April 22, 1923 in Victoria to August and Annie Venghaus Kramer.

 

She graduated from Patti Waelder High School in 1940.

 

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Sam G. Kaiser; daughter Terry Susan Williams and husband, Linsey, of Houston; two grandchildren, Laura L. Williams and Larry L. Williams and wife, Lisa; and two great-granddaughters, Ashley Renee and Emberly Ann Williams.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Larry Kurt Kaiser; brothers, Walter Kramer, Arthur Kramer and Arnold Kramer; sisters, Hilda Stange, Bertha Blaschke and Edna Maurer; half-brothers, Edwin Kramer, Karl Kramer and Bill Kramer; and half sisters, Lena Venghaus, Hattie Vaughn and Emily Klaus.

 

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 28 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Jeffrey Marsh officiating under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home of Columbus. Graveside services followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Victoria.

 

Pallbearers were Pat Gyllenband, Micke Gyllenband, Bruce Kaiser, David Kaiser, Larry Williams and Rusty Klaus.
