Graveside funeral services are being held here today (Monday) at
the McDade Cemetery for Mrs. Watson Wolf, age 60.
She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Kelton. Funeral services are held in the funeral home in Elgin at 3
p.m. Rev. Ray Head is officiating. She
died January 18, 1969.
Survivors are her mother Mrs. Eva Kelton of Granberry, five
daughters, Maxine Wagner and Dorothy White of Taft, Laura Gruber of
Houston, Lena McDonald of Livingston, Lucille Miller of Portland, 7
sisters, 1 brother, 13 grandchildren and a host of other relatives.
Alice Lane of Pleasanton spent the weekend with Mrs. Bessie Lane.
Oscar Dungan of McDade Constable Precinct 4, wants to express his
appreciation to the Elgin fire department and all the people from Elgin
and surrounding places who were so faithful when the Kelton and Kunkel
warehouse was destroyed by fire. Without
their help we would have lost more by the fire.
Mrs. C.J. McCormick spent the weekend recently in Houston.

Mrs. Bessie Lane and Alice Lane visited Mary Clark and Clara Scrugg
in Elgin Monday and also other friends.
Mrs. T.R. Gathright received the sad news of the death of her
sister Mrs. Anna Martin age 70 years of Commerce, Oklahoma.
She died January 15, 1969. Funeral
was held in Oklahoma.
Mrs. Fed Stewart is in Elgin Hospital for treatments.
Mrs. Pete Smith is in Elgin Hospital for treatments.
Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Stagner of Houston spent last week with Mary
Staggner and Alice Page and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Page of
Austin visited during the weekend.
Mrs. Homer Hudler of McDade and Mrs. Mildred McCandless of Austin
visited at the bedside of their daughter and sister Mrs. Edith Vasquhl at
Stillwater Oklahoma. She is
very ill and has been for over 2 months.
Mr. and Mrs. A.R. Dungan of Giddings visited Mrs. Ethel Sowell
Friday. They also visited other relatives here.

Wusterhausen; Wednesday, December 20, Wally Mundine and Bradley Magnuson;
Thursday, December 21, Dempes Williams, and Lori Moore Pohorelsky;
Saturday, December 23, Sue Steinbring, Jack Carter. Barbara Wusterhausen
Shelley, and Lenora Hassel Shope.
Ernestine Schulz, Adeline Eschberger, Vernell Kastner, Frances
Nesslbeck, Melba Skubiata, Sue Steinbring, Marji Gros, Louise Goerlitz,
Helen Blaschke, Lawrey Wolf, Amy Skubiata and Kayla Skubiata, all from
Faith Lutheran Church, met Sunday afternoon, December 3, to stuff cloth
animals that had been sewed at home.
Stuffing and final tucks were added, along with ribbons, on the
animals to be given to Bastrop County’s needy children.
They all enjoyed refreshments afterwards.
Alvin and Adeline Eschberger were in Giddings on Sunday afternoon
for an arts and crafts show.
Freda Wilson visited at the Golden Years Nursing Home in Elgin on
Wednesday.
The
Wallace Wilsons talked on the telephone with their daughter, Deborah
Grimmer, in Vincentown, New Jersey, on Saturday.
Deborah said they had received snow on Thanksgiving Day.
Mary Stagner had her sister-in-law, Mildred Stagner, of Houston,
visiting Thursday though Saturday. Then,
on Sunday afternoon, Mary Sue Page and Lawrence, Mary Ellen and Gilbert
Page all visited her from Elgin.
Leo Harrison had some old-time friends, Otti Mae
Woods of Houston and Odell McClain of Cleveland, visiting on
Tuesday.
Cleo Grimes had a friend, Sylvia wittmer, of Alaska, visiting this
week.
Evelyn Wolf attended a DRT Christmas party in Austin on Sunday
afternoon at the French Legation.
Dan and Evelyn Wolf, Adeline and Alvin Eschberger and Gladys Koeppe
attended the annual sons of Hermann Christmas party in Giddings on
Saturday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Quintis Hoerman were in Lockhart last Friday night for
the Thorndale-Runge footballl game. Thorndale,
ranking third in state in Class A, competed with Bartlett in
quarter-finals on Friday night, December 8, in Leander.
The Quintis Hoermans had their Grandson, Karl Theile, of Thorndale,
as a dinner guest on Monday.
Visiting Louise Goerlitz on Friday night, December 1, was her
grandson, Randy Kastner, of A&M University in College Station.
Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Goerlitz’ were Jeff Ruthven and
Janice and Tonya Terry, of Austin. Mrs.
Goerlitz had a phone call from her sister, Rosie Spaw, in Portland,
Oregon. Mrs. Spaw reported
she had been real sick during Thanksgiving.
She also reported that between four and five inches of rain had
fallen on Sunday, December 3. If
I could have had that rain in McDade, my stock water worries would be
over.
Florine Stroud reports her son, James Hassell, and
family have left Austin and now live in Virginia.
Esther Grosse has been on the sick list this past week.
Cat Duggen wishes to tell all ladies, who have donated yarn for lap
robes in the Elgin Golden Years Nursing Home and Bastrop Autumn Hills
Nursing Home, that donations have been greatly appreciated by her and the
receivers. If anyone has yarn
they will not be using, she will gladly donate her time to make the lap
robes for the residents in the nursing homes.

Tammi Barchenger was honored with a baby shower on Sunday, December
3, at her mother’s Shirley Merka, home in Pflugerville.
Hostesses were Faye Betak, Pat and Shannon Stubbs and Julie
Zachary. The ones from this area attending were Glennie Pohler, Leona
Davis, Stella Grant and Ruth and Destany Carter. Approximately 25 guests
attended, and Tammi received many beautiful and useful gifts.
