PIONEER BASTROP COUNTY RESIDENT PASSES ON AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS.

MRS. MARY L. HACKWORTH

Mrs. Mary L. Hackworth, 63, passed on at the family home in the Mt. Pleasant Community at 3:50 a.m. Friday, March 31, 1939, following an illness of about forty-two hours, caused from an attack of acute indigestion.  The body lay in state at the residence until the funeral hour Saturday afternoon, when services were held from the church at Pleasant Grove, with the Rev. T.E. Holt of Belton officiating.  The choir rendered several favorite hymns in tribute to her memory and the grave was banked with beautiful flowers sent by sorrowing friends and relatives.  Pallbearers were her three son, Ambrose, Newton, and Joel Hackworth, two sons-in-law, G.A. Morrow and W.D. Larsen.  Interment was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mary L. Turner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Turner, was born December 22, 1876, at Grapevine, Tarrant County, Texas.  When two years of age she came with her parents to Bastrop County, Mt. Pleasant Community where she grew to young womanhood, and was happily married on December 29, 1895, to Mr. M. A. Hackworth.  They established their home in that community, where the husband engaged in farming.  Their home was known far and near for its cordial hospitality and they were respected and admired for their many fine qualities by all who knew them.  She was a home-lover and her chief interest centered about her home, children and husband.  Her yard was a bower of beauty, her home a haven of comfort for them.  She was a Christian and reared her children to be fine God-fearing citizens and honor and pride to her.  She    was a good wife, and adoring mother and a kind friend, one ever  ready and eager to do good or offer assistance where she could.  Mrs. Hackworth had been a member of the Baptist Church since 1897 and her high ideals and exemplary life were an inspiration to all who came in contact with her.  She was a member of the Praetorian Lodge.  She was kind, sympathetic, considerate, charitable and generous.  Her place in the home and community can never quite be filled and her going is felt most keenly by the  host of friends, who offer   sympathy to the bereaved husband and children.
