Fedor
was named in honor of Fedor Soder, and is also known as Moab, West
Yegua, and Long Prairie. It is located about 8 miles north of
Manheim.Manheim is located on Hwy 21 between Paige and Lincoln.
Fedor Soder was born Dec. 25, 1819 Madgeburg, Germany. He married
Minna Meyer, b. Deutschland in Fayette Co. He died Mar. 7, 1899 in
Paige, Texas. He & Mina are buried in the St. Johns Lutheran
Church cem. at paige. He lived in Serbin & Paige. His home was
built in Paige by ________________. (see page 19 in the
"History of Paige" for a photo of the Soder home and
blacksmith shop in Paige.)The store in Paige was built by Engleberth
Haag in 1879. (the store lot is the same as the new U.S. Post office
located in Paige.) In 1882 Fedor purchased the store in Fedor from Mr.
August Polnick who was the owner who began the store in 1877. In
1882 Polnick sold to Soder and moved to Thorndale, Texas.
Fedor Soder donated land for a school and cem. at Gloyna some 2 1/2
miles n.e. of Lincoln.
Fedor
Soder was appointed postmaster at Serbin & later at Fedor. He
was preceeded as post master at Fedor by C.A. Polnick who was appointed
on Nov. 22, 1880; Soder was appointed Sept 21, 1875 (at Serbin) &
Jan. 18, 1882 at Fedor; Charles O. Keuffel followed him on March 26,
1883 as postmaster at
Fedor.
Mr. Melde was employed at the Fedor store as clerk both men (Melde &
Keuffel) were shot & killed by armed robbers in Nov. 1883. The
store was then sold to Mr. M. Domann. In 1886 Mr. Domann sold it
to Mr. Charles Jatzlau who turned it into a successful business.
Andreas Melde was a passenger on the Ben Nevis. He settled at
Fedor. Mr. August Polnick farmed on the West Yegua. In 1877 Mr.
Polnick began the general store. In 1882 he sold to Fedor Soder.
Polnick moved to Thorndale.
