A Little Piece of Heaven

Have you ever been somewhere so wonderful you almost want to keep it a secret?  Harwood is just that but it’s impossible to keep it secret.  Once a school and now a community center located on US Route 90. There hasn’t been a class taught since the 1940’s but you could learn a thing or two from the best of the best who come from all over to play here.  Anyone is welcome to listen to the talented musicians with their fiddles, guitars, basses,  banjos and whatever else fits into the flow of the best music made this side of Texas.
The third Saturday of every month, locals with the exception of a few others get together and put on a show for everyone to enjoy. Now that now you know about it, come and join us.  They play to keep the center going, and when you take a break you can enjoy some of the potluck everyone brings, to make it that much more special.
In the main room, a small stage is provided for the audience who listens and usually can’t stop clapping their hands.  You don’t need to play a musical instrument to go, you just have to enjoy music.  Not only will you see talented musicians on the small stage, but in every room you are welcomed to join any group of the musicians gathered around playing their instruments in perfect melody.  You can walk into one of the several rooms in Harwood to enjoy any group of fiddlers, mandolin or guitar players, that play with their heart and essence.

One of those people happens to be Dan Jaskek.  Self-taught, his soul is in his fiddle.  His body moves with passion when his bow pulsates his fiddle with confidence and perfect tune.  Whenever he’s ready, he moves on and plays with a different crowd, a different song, in a different room.  Dan is the unsurpassed of the fiddlers around.

Everyone deserves their name mentioned; every single one of them make Harwood come alive every third Saturday of the month.  Catch you there next time if you’re around in the meantime enjoy some past and present pictures.  If you have any pictures you would like to submit please send them to:
