Horace Greeley Hodge

 

           Horace Greeley Hodge was born on February 13, 1909, near McDade, Texas, the only son of Cora Amanda and Elmo Elijah Hodge.  His life on this earth ended on April 25, 1981, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 72 years, 2 months
and 12 days.

On November 6, 1930, Horace Hodge married Lucy Mason.  To this union was born five children:  two sons, Horace Grady of Elgin, and Larry Dale of Austin; and three daughters, Nettie Wilcoxen of Bastrop, Bettye Patton of Austin, and Linda Ging of Newgulf.  Other survivors include his sister, Fayth Branton of Stephenville and 14 grandchildren.

Mr. Hodge's chosen profession was farming.  He had a deep love and reverence for the earth and all its creatures. At his death, Mr. Hodge was a member of the McDade Baptist Church. Earlier in life, as a member of the Highgrove congregation, he was ordained as a church deacon.
Mr. Hodge was a citizen of Elgin for 40 years.  His unfailing honesty and trustworthiness made him a revered and valued member of this community. Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 27, at the Newby Funeral Chapel.  The Reverend G. W. Turner officiated.
