Mrs.
Laura Smith Rister passes suddenly Sunday At Her Home.
The
Siloam-Beaukiss community was shocked and grieved early Monday
when news was circulated advising of the death of Mrs. Laura
Amah Smith Rister, wife of Mr. J.H. Rister, which occurred
Sunday night at 8:30 o’clock, at the family home at Siloam
from the effects of a heart attack after only about 30 minutes
illness.
The
funeral services were held Monday afternoon, November 21, at
3:00 o’clock, with the Rev. McFadden, of Taylor in charge.
Pallbearers were Lee, Herbert and Vernon Rister, Ralph,
Clyde and Fred Walker, grandsons.
Interment was in the Adina Cemetery, where a large
group of friends and relatives were present to pay their last
respects.
Mrs.
Rister was a native of Missouri, and born December 28, 1868.
She came to Texas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Smith,
when a young girl to Siloam, Lee County.
In 1892, she was married to J.H. Rister and they have
lived in that community all these years, endearing themselves
to all with whom they
associated.
Their home was the gathering place for young and old
and the latch key was always out to the stranger or those in
need.
She was a devout Christian and member of the Church of
Christ.
Her love of people and her good work was known
throughout the country.
Her quick smile, friendly disposition and cheerful
nature made her a general favorite.
To know her was to love her.
She was a devoted wife and mother, a kind friend and a
benediction to the community.
Left
to mourn her passing are the husband and three children, M.
Forrest Rister, Granger; Mrs. Alice Walker, Bartlett and Mrs.
Aubrey Jarmon, Siloam; 27 grandchildren and 18 great
grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Emily Nance, Mrs. Mary
Harrison, of Montalba; Mrs. Dollie Slaughter. China Spring;
four brothers, Tom, Jim, and George Ritchey, Montalba and Dave
Smith McDade.
