MRS. JEPTHA BILLINGSLEY.

 

            Funeral services were conducted for Mrs. Louisa Melvina Billingsley, wife of the late Jeptha Billingsley, Thursday afternoon, December 26, at 3:30 at Young’s Prairie Cemetery with the Rev. G. H.Showalter, of Austin, in charge of the last sad rites, and burial made in the family plot there beside her husband. Mrs. Billingsley was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Joiner; she was born at McDade, May 13, 1861, and was married to Jeptha Billingsley at McDade December 25, 1878, who preceded her in death eight years.  She died at the home of a son, Wallace Billingsley, at Manchaca December 26, at 2:00 a.m.

            Surviving children are Jesse, of Austin; Joseph of Elgin, Rueben, of Bastrop; Mrs. Irene Wright, Mrs Hallie Menson and Miss Callie Billingsley, of San Antonia; Mrs. Maggie McClary, of Austin and Mrs. Pearlie Mae Baker, of Brownwood; 33 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.  A son, Wallace Billingsley, died from the effects of double pneumonia Saturday, January 4, at a hospital in Austin, nine days following his mother’s death.

            Among those from away in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Stoddard, of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Dewayne Brown, of San Antonio, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Spier, Mrs. Hazel Brown and Mr. Marlin Gunn Jr. of Austin.

            The following prayer was composed in her memory by her son, Joseph Billingsley of Elgin, Young’s Prairie Community.
