Topics to be covered

Organization and Using Vital Records: suggestions on organizing your materials, a brief overview of Family Tree Maker and Personal Ancestral File, primary and secondary records, discussion of birth, marriage and death records with examples of what you might find.

Using Land Records: types of deeds, what is found in a deed, with examples, brief discussion of metes and bounds and township and range, steps in acquiring a land grant.

Wills and Estates: what do the "terms" mean, the probate process, a look at examples of testate and intestate probate.

Paleography and Using Other Sources for Research: helpful hints on how to read old handwriting, and how to use other sources to research our ancestors. This includes census other than the population census, city directories, tax lists, and funeral records.
