Mesquite Historical and Genealogical Society Spring Workshop Saturday June 9, 2012
Mesquite Main Library 300 W. Grubb, Mesquite, TX 75149 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Our Speaker for the Spring Workshop will be Tresa Tatyrek. Tresa has been interested in family history and genealogy since childhood. She began doing extensive research in 1997 on her and her husband's families which has evolved into tracing over forty families surnames as the families branched backwards. Her research now includes client work as well as continuing her own. She uses cluster genealogy as her primary research technique along with utilizing many technical tools to keep track of her progress. She performs volunteer work for several groups and libraries in the Dallas area. The Dallas Genealogical Society bestowed their Award of Merit on her in 2007 for her volunteer service to their organization for an extended period of time. She served as President of the Dallas Genealogical Society for three years and 6 years as their webmaster. Tresa has given presentations on a variety of genealogical topics to different societies, including using the genealogy program Family Tree Maker, the internet, Courthouse Research, and Research Trip Preparation. Topics First session- Bureau of Land Management- It isn't just for public land cash and homestead entries any more. Military warrants, land plats and surveys reside on this site too. Learn tricks for exploring these items and add some interesting artifacts to your family history. Second session- Organization of your Genealogy Stuff- taking it from paper to digital.- If you have been doing genealogical research for very long you have lots of paper. It is either in notebooks, files, or piles. In the digital age we are moving to a paperless system, and guess what, you can actually find and know what you have for documentation of your family history! Afternoon Sessions-Ancestry.com- public, private and worldconnect trees. How to upload your own, build your own, or just navigate through them.
