MIDLAND COUNTY CONFEDERATE PENSION APPLICANTS
Contributed by Carolyn E. Sowell, 2910 W. Michigan,#104, Midland, TX
To assist Texas residents who were veterans, or widows of veterans, of the Confederate State Army, the Texas
Legislature passed a bill on May 12, 1899, authorizing pension benefits. Although service in a Texas unit was
not required, the veteran or his widow had to have come to Texas prior to
January 1. 1880. (Eligibility was later extended to those who came before
1910.)
Copies of these pension application records may be requested from Archives, Texas State Library, Box 12927 -
