HAMPTON, VERNA “Betty” GANT October
23, 1918 – November 12, 2008
Services for Verna “Betty” Gant Hampton, 90, of Daingerfield, were held November
14, 2008, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Ambrose
officiating. Interment was in Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery. Mrs. Hampton was
born October 23, 1918, in Braddock, PA, and died November 12, 2008, in
Daingerfield. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and was a
veteran of the US Army Nurse Corps serving as a second lieutenant during World
War II. She was also a member of the VFW Post 1890 of Morris County; a member
of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, and the Daingerfield Business and
Professional Women organization. She was a retired school nurse. Preceding her
in death were her husbands, Archie W. Gant Jr., and George William Hampton; two
sons, Dale Richard Gant and Vincent Ferar Gant; and two daughters, Linda Wells
Gant and Frances Eileen Gant. Survivors include two sons, Greg L. Gant of
Daingerfield, and Dean Gant of Sugar Land, Texas; eight grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Our Lady in the Pines Cemetery under
the direction of Nail-haggard Funeral Home. (Location Unknown)
MCKAY, FRANCES

Rosary for Frances “Fran”
McKay, 64, of Daingerfield will be 7 pm Wednesday at Nail-Haggard Funeral Home.
Services will be 2 pm Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with the
Rev. Jack Brockman and Rev. Tony Pondant officiating. Burial will be in Our
Lady of the Pines Cemetery. Mrs. McKay died Sunday at a Tyler hospital. She
was born April 12, 1925, in Sharon, PA, and had lived in Daingerfield for 36
years. She was a member of the Our lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors
include her husband, Archie “Ozzie”; daughters, and sons-in-law, Melanie and
Robert Pritchett and Crystal and Hollis Hughes, all of Midlothian, and Pamela
and Dan Briggs of Longview; sisters, Betty Grimm of Sharon and Estell Wimer of
Independence, MO; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by a son, Randy. (Sec A Row 8)
MCKAY, ROBERT R (PETE)

Services for Robert R “Pete”
McKay, 68 of Daingerfield will be 10 AM Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic
Church in Daingerfield with Father Fidelis Levri officiating. A rosary will be
recited at 7 tonight at the Nail-Haggard Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in
Our Lady of the Pines Cemetery in Daingerfield. Mr. McKay died Monday in Mount
Pleasant. He was born June 23, 1928 in Aliquippa, PA. He married Marie Carney
on Oct 7, 1946, and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. He had
retired from Lone Star Steel where he was a supervisor. Mr. McKay also was a
member of the Men’s Club at his Church, the Wildflower Promenader Square Dance
Club and the Oasis Lodge No. 79, where he was a Mason. Survivors include his
wife, Marie; two daughters, Bonnie Lou Hausler of Boxelder, Jodee Squyres of
Mount Pleasant; son, Bobby McKay of Daingerfield; brother, Archie B “Ozzie”
McKay, Jr of Daingerfield; three sisters, Betty Fair of Daingerfield, Mildred
Lewis of Hubbard, Ohio and Ruth Baker of Youngstown, Ohio; 11 grandchildren and

PONDANT, ANTHONY WILLIAM November 12, 1937
– August 24, 1997
Mass for Father Anthony William
Pondant, 59, of Wylie were Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima
Church in Daingerfield. A rosary was held Aug. 27 at Our Lady of Fatima Church
and on Aug. 25 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Wylie. Burial was in Our
Lady of the Pines Cemetery in Daingerfield. Pondant was born on Friday, Nov.
12, 1937 in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a veteran of the Army and a priest. He
died on Sunday, Aug. 24. Survivors include two brothers, Dominick Pondant of
San Diego, CA; two sisters, Patricia Harris of Nacogdoches and Elaine Pondant of
