Daingerfield with the Rev. Bertrain Bailey officiating. Mr. Barber was born
July 22, 1930, in Morris County. He died Thursday, March 24, 2005, in Mt.
Pleasant. He was a retired employee of Red River Army Depot. Survivors include
his wife, Vivian McCuin Barber of Omaha; two adoptive sons, Eddie Searcy and
Jonathan McCuin Barber, both of Omaha; four step-children, Ida Matson of Mt.
Pleasant, Donald McCuin of Houston, Patricia McCuin of Killeen and Travis McCuin
of Omaha; three sisters, Annie Jones of Dallas, Ossie Pollard of Pomona, CA and
Mary James of Pittsburg; two brothers, Hurndon Barber and Willie D Barber, both
of Omaha; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a host of other

Services for Mrs. Catherine Burgess, 86, of
Mt. Pleasant were Saturday, April 26, 1980, at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of
Omaha, with the Rev. Courtney Mitchell officiating. Mrs. Burgess was born
December 29, 1921, in Omaha. She died April 18, 2008, in Tyler. She was
retired from teaching school at Daingerfield and was a former teacher at Mt.
Pleasant. She was a member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church of Omaha.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Herbert Burgess. Survivors include a
daughter, Frances Eileen Burgess of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers, Arthur Wright
and Burnon Charles Wright, both of Washington, DC; three sisters, Dossie Bryson
of Omaha, George Murray of Washington, DC, and Constance Whitmore of Dallas, and
a number of other relatives. Burial was in the Reynolds Cemetery of
Daingerfield.

MELVIN FRANK CHISM, 41, of Lone Star, died
Monday, August 7, following a lengthy illness. Services were at 11 am,
Saturday, August 12, at the Mt. Mitchell Church of Christ in Omaha, with Bro.
Luckey Randall officiating. Burial was in the Reynolds Cemetery in
Daingerfield. Mr. Chism graduated from Daingerfield High School, attended
Kilgore Junior College and NTCC, where he received an associate degree in
applied science. He was employed at Anderson-Hickey for seven years, and was a
member of the Mt. Mitchell Church in Omaha. He was preceded in death by a
brother, John Rodgers. Survivors include one son, Christopher Chism of
Henderson; one daughter, Marquita Latrell Chism of Henderson; his parents, Henry
and Hattie Younger of Daingerfield; seven brothers, Willie Rodgers, Jimmy Chism
Sr., and William Chism, all of Lone Star, Ronald Smith Sr. and Dedrick Younger,
both of Dallas, Henry Earl Younger of Elcon, CA, and Earnest Younger of
Daingerfield; five sisters, Monica Linwood of Cason, Tammy Craine of OK City,
OK, Rozalyn Williams of Lone Star, and Sharon Younger and Jackie Keller, both of

Charlie Red and Josie Hendrix Douglas. She died February 18, 2008, in Mt.
Pleasant. She was a retired laborer from Pilgrim’s Pride Corporation and a
member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents;
two brothers; and sisters. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth
and Renee Douglas of Mt. Pleasant; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John L.
Douglas and Charles and Gloria Douglas of Omaha; six sisters, Linda Smith and
Mary Epps both of Omaha, Ethel Stern and Jo Lynn Warren of Dallas, Julie Gnagne
of Rusk, and Helen Flemming of Lone Star; and a host of nieces, nephews,
