Here is a photo taken circa late 1901 or early 1902 of my great grandparents Captain Marvin "Cap" Ellis and Eva Elizabeth Chandler Ellis Family.  In the photo back is Cratus Ellis (m. Lola A. Cook) born 3/7/1895 and died May 6, 1987 (Corsicana, TX), little girl standing in middle is Margaret "Maggie" Ellis (m. Willie Walter Elam) b. 10/18/1899 and d. 2/2/1976, and baby on Eva's lap is Emma Sue b. 7/12/1901 (m. Aubrey Eppler) and d. 8/22/1974.

Eva Elizabeth Chandler Ellis (my great grandmother), b. 1876 d. 1957, was the d/o William Newton Chandler and Scynthia Emeline Morris. She was married to Captain "Cap" Marvin Ellis. Both are buried in the Rice Cemetery. (Biography on file under James Ellis/Mary Parker) Barbara Wilson Hatley was my step-mother. She is buried in the Rosehill Cemetery, Blooming Grove. Man Repairing Tire Is Killed by Auto

CORSICANA, Texas, Dec. 25 (AP). C. M.  Ellis of Rice was killed here Saturday night when an automobile struck him as he and his son, Clarence, were repairing a tire on their own car.

The younger Ellis said the other automobile did not stop. The father, dragged some 100 feet was dead before an ambulance arrived. City and county officers began a search for the driver whose car struck him.

Funeral Held for Man Killed by Automobile

CORSICANA, Texas, Dec. 27. - Funeral services for Cap Ellis, 5?, Rice farmer who was killed Saturday night when struck by an automobile on Highway No. 75 in North Corsicana, were held Monday afternoon from the First Baptist Church at Rice, with burial in the Rice Cemetery.

City and county officers have been seeking the driver of the car which struck the victim. It was reported that the car striking Ellis was driving on the left side of the highway without lights and that the driver did not stop and render aid.

Surviving are his wife, six sons, Cratus, Marshall, Archie, Arnold, Earl, and Samuel Ellis, all of Rice; and four daughters, Mrs. W. W. Elam of Roby, Mrs. J. W. Perkins of Italy, Mrs. A. H. Epler of Rice and Mrs. Haden Davis of Rice.

Thursday Rite For Mrs. Ellis

Funeral services for Mrs. C. m. Ellis, 81, who died at their home in Dallas early Wednesday, were held from the Haynie Memorial Methodist church in Rice Thursday at 2 p.m. with burial in the Rice Cemetery.

The rites were conducted by Rev. R. A. Stacey of Dallas, assisted by Rev. Jack Daniels, pastor.

Mrs. Ellis resided in Rice for many years prior to moving to Dallas 15 years ago. She was  born in Tennessee.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. W. W. Elam, Childress; Mrs. Aubrey Eppler, Mrs. John Perkins and Mrs. Hayden Davis, all of Dallas; five sons, Cratus, Arnold and Sam Ellis, all of Dallas; Archie Ellis, Childress, and Earl Ellis, U.S. Army; 30 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Fred Huddleston, Anadarko, Okla., and Mrs. Jessie Wheeler, Grand Prairie, and other relatives.

Pallbearers w ere James T. Milam, W. R. Milam, Don White, John Tipton, J. T. Davis and Gene Davis.
