Pvt. Lonnie L. Powell was born at Union
Parish, Louisiana, January 1, 1889. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. D.
Powell of Barry. He received his education in the public schools of Barry,
and later attended E. Y. N. College of Commerce, Texas. On entering the
service, July 5, 1918, he trained in the Postal Express Service at Camp Mac
Arthur, Texas, until he was sent to France September 29, 1918. Upon his
arrival he was stationed at Tours France. He received his discharge from

Lonnie L. Powell Dies at Corsicana
Lonnie L. Powell, 60, former county judge of Navarro
County, died Wednesday.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at
the Corsicana First Methodist Church.
He was reared at Barry and was a teacher and a
cotton-gin operator, as well as a merchant, at Blooming Grove before coming
here. He served in World War I.
Powell's term as county judge expired Jan. 1,
although illness prevented his serving during the last six months of his
term. Joe D. Huffstutler, now county judge, acted as special county judge
after his nomination in last summer's Democratic primary.
Survivors are Powell's wife; two sons, Lonnie L.
Powell Jr., Houston and E. J. Powell, Corsicaan; a brother W. D. Powell,
Sherman; five sisters, Mrs. J. W. Varnell, Corsicana; Mrs. J. H. Bolin and
Mrs. J. A. Reid, both of Dallas; Mrs. Clarice Arp, El Paso, and Miss Pearl
Powell, Barry, and four grandchildren.
