Apr 10, 1909 - Aug 17, 2003  J. W. "Buck" Jarrett, age 94 of Italy died
Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003 in Corsicana. He was born April 10, 1909 in Italy to Will and Donie (Few) Jarrett. He married Emy Lou Stovall Sept. 23, 1934 in Italy. Buck was the district manager of Northern Propane in
Waxahachie, from which he retired in 1977 with over 25 years service. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Hella Shrine, a member of the Park
Presbyterian Church in Italy and served in the US. Navy in WW II. He was preceded in death by his wife Emy Lou Stovall Jarrett in 1980. Later he
married Mary Langbein and moved to Dallas where they were members of the St. Marks Presbyterian Church. She also preceded him in death.
Buck is survived by one daughter, Linda Jarrett White of Corsicana; one grandson, John Cullen and his wife Amy, of
Ennis; one great grandson, John Jarrett White of Ennis; one sister, Cleo Coggins of Corsicana; two step-children Carl Langbein and his wife Sandy
and Terry Wood and his wife Charlie, all of Dallas and many other extended family. Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 at the Italy Cemetery in Italy. Family visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at the Boze-Mitchell-McKibbin Chapel in Italy.

Mrs. Dickson was born Feb. 14, 1928, in
Corsicana. She had resided in Beaumont since December 1970. She lived a
very active life. She served as an officer in the Beaumont A&M Mothers
Club, actively served Forest Park Methodist Church, singing in the
choir, and working in the Meals on Wheels program for about 15 years,
supervising that program during part of that time. She was an active
member of the Ramallah Temple, Daughters of the Nile and Cashan Grotto
ladies auxiliary. She was the youngest of 10 children, and was very
close to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and
daughter.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years,
Graham N. Dickson of Beaumont; two sisters, Opal Hale of Greentown, Pa.,
and Doris Buchanan of McAllen; two children, Kathy Sanders and husband
Gary of Corsicana and John Dickson and wife Violet of Denton; six
grandchildren, Scott Sanders of Plano, Steven Sanders of Huntsville, and
Michael Dickson, Matt Dickson, Samuel Dickson and Jonathan Dickson, all
of Denton; four great-grandchildren, Morgan Sanders and Madison Sanders,
both of Plano, and Garret Dickson and Michaela Dickson, both of Denton;
and a host of friends.

cent coffee club at Whataburger on West Seventh Avenue in Corsicana, and
was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Corsicana.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmet
Dale and Effie McQueen; and stepson, Roy Eugene Lee.
Survivors include his wife of 50 plus years,
Pearl McQueen of Corsicana; son, Larry Dale McQueen of Denton; daughter,
Ann Caldcleugh of Waxahachie; stepson, James Lee of Tyler; sister,

The memorial service for Billy "Bill" Warren Randell will be at 3
p.m. Saturday at Blessed Hope Fellowship, 95 Ingalls Lane, Wilderville.

Mr. Randell, 58, of Grants Pass, died Monday (July 14, 2003) at
Three Rivers Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 23, 1944, in Corsicana, Texas. In 1947, he moved
to Oregon from Corsicana. He was a 1962 graduate of Grants Pass High
School and spent most of his life in Grants Pass.
Mr. Randell worked as a farmer, in erosion control, as a log truck
driver, in family businesses and as a caregiver.
He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and spending time with friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Dajani, Martinez, Calif.,
and Joyce Peterson, Bellevue, Neb.; a son, Walter A., Beaverton; and six
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. and
Pearl Randell; and a sister, Donna Bohannon.

Scarborough of Eugene, who died April 19 of age-related causes. He was
85.
Scarborough was born Nov. 10, 1917, in Korea to John and
Delphia Scarborough. He married Lois Tapscott in Corsicana, Texas, on
March 25, 1938.
He earned an associate's degree at Texas A&M University.
He served in the Navy during World War II. He worked with an engineering
staff to build aircraft and aircraft components before retiring in 1984.
He lived in Dallas, Texas, and San Diego before moving to Eugene in
1984. His interests included current events, the financial market and
sailing ships. He enjoyed spending time with his wife.
Survivors include his wife; a son, David of Floral City,
Fla.; three daughters, Lois Shirck of Cleburne, Texas, Lorna Kelley of
Munich, Germany, and Elizabeth Scarborough of San Diego; 13
grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. A son, John, died Aug. 11,
1999.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at
West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene. Thursday's service
will be held at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be at West
Lawn Memorial Park.

Barbara Ann Szoly-Vogel-Hanson, 51, of Saint Jo, TX
passed away on January 14, 2003 in Nocona General Hospital.
Mrs. Szoly-Vogel-Hanson was born on August 30, 1951 in
Cleveland, OH to John Douglas and Hazel Wakeman Kickham. She maried Joe
Hanson on August 30, 1986 in Corsicana, TX. She volunteered as a candy
striper at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, OH and worked as a vacuum
cleaner saleswoman where she met her first husband, the father of her
two daughters. She was regional supervisor of Taco Bell for fifteen
years in Oklahoma and then started her career with the United States
Postal Service as a general clerk, where she met her second husband and
lifemate, Joe Hanson.
A memorial service for Mrs. Szoly-Vogel-Hanson was held
on Friday, January 17, 2003 at 4:00 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel in
Saint Jo with Rev. Larry Kennedy officiating.
Surviving relatives include: her husband, Joe Hanson,
Saint Jo, TX; four daughters, Victoria Ann Vogel-Reed, Gainesville, TX,
Cynthia Ann Vogel-Voth, Muenster, TX, Josie Sue Hanson and Julie Ann

Mrs. James Rufus Stansell, 95, nee Ida Mae Cornwell, of Fredericksburg,
died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m., at Memorial
Park Funeral Home Chapel in Amarillo with interment following in
Memorial Park Cemetery.
Beckmann Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Mrs. Stansell was born June 15, 1908, near Corsicana. Her husband, James
Rufus Stansell, preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker and farmer and a member of Fredericksburg Baptist
Church.
Survivors include three children, Sylvia Marie Visser of Fredericksburg,
Maxa Price of Frisco and J.R. Stansell of Boise City, OK.
She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 32
great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stansell was preceded in death by a
daughter, Barbara Langham; one great-grandson; two sisters, Ruth
Batterby and Grace Eatman; and two brothers, Richard Cornwell and Jack

Mary was born March 15, 1922, in Aransas Pass.
She taught school for 30 years, pioneering in the special education
programs in Burleson and White Settlement. She earned her B.S. from
Texas Christian University and M.S. from Texas Woman's University. She
played the organ for many years in her church and taught beginning
piano. She was a member of the Ridglea Chapter of the Order of the
Eastern Star.
Mary was preceded in death by a son, Hal Ford
III; and a grandson, Robert Montgomery.
Survivors: Husband, Robert Dycus; children,
John Ford of Alice, Robbie Montgomery of Weatherford and Donna Dean of
Corsicana; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Paul Curry, 86, of Corsicana passed
away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at Navarro Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at
Ross and Johnson Mortuary and from 9 to 10:50 a.m. Wednesday at Second
Mission Baptist Church.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at Second Mission Baptist Church with Pastor L.L. Polk Sr.

Woodland Memorial Park.

Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy English, L.J. Swanson,

The Rev. Curry was born Sept. 3, 1916, in
Groesbeck, Limestone County, Texas. He was called to the ministry in
1951 at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He pastored the following
churches: 1953, Corinth Baptist Church, Emhouse; 1955, Timothy Baptist
Church, Chatfield; 1957, Second Mission Baptist Church, where he served
as pastor until his retirement in 1996. From 1952 to 1959, the Rev.
Curry attended the extension school at Southwestern Seminary of Baylor
University. There he received his diploma in theology. In 1959, he
received his certification in pastoral counseling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe
and Bertina Curry; son, C.J. Curry; two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Mattie C. Curry of
Corsicana; three children, Pauline Wilson of Medira, Calif., Ora Mae
Slaughter of Dallas, and Jessie Ray Curry (Ruby) of DeSoto; nine
grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, eight
great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other
relatives.

Friday, Aug. 22, 2003 in Corsicana.

Mrs. Bonnett was born Aug. 6, 1926 in Kemp.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Stanley Bonnett; father, Seth Hugh Furguson; mother, Mable Easterly; and
stepfather, Arthur Easterly.
Mrs. Bonnett is survived by a son, James M.
Montgomery of Mildred; grandson, Billy J. Montgomery of Mustang; sister,
Lola M. Lawler of Midland; brother, Billy D. Easterly of Alvarado; aunt,
Dolly B. Fowler of Canton; and brother-in-law, Mike Bonnett of Hunter,
Okla.

John Beryl Prestidge
John Beryl Prestidge, 68, of Corsicana died
Monday, Aug. 25, 2003, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas with his loving
wife, Martha, daughters, grandchildren, family members and many friends
at his side.
"Bubba," as he was affectionately known to his
friends, was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Ennis, where he spent his youth
making lifelong friends and learning to love life. After marrying his
sweetheart, Martha Bancroft, they moved to Corsicana and began a life of
adventure together. Beryl and Martha opened Corsicana Glass and Mirror
and operated it for 39 years together until they retired in April 1999.
Beryl was a free-spirited man that never met a
stranger. Everyone that every met him never forgot him. Beryl loved the
outdoors and spent his leisure time at his farm or hunting and fishing
with his family and friends. He was a mentor and friend to many,
especially young people. He was an active supporter of youth
organizations such as FFA and 4-H and was always willing to help others
in need. The many people that loved him will sorely miss him.
His parents, Coy Prestidge and Mattie Faulquer
Prestidge, and his brothers, Coy, Bill and Wayne preceded him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife and best
friend of 45 years, Martha; daughters, Susan Williamson and son-in-law
Ed of Corsicana, and Polly Wynn and son-in-law John of Tyler; five
grandchildren, Lauren, Leslie and Lana Acock of Corsicana, and Casey and
Carley Jones of Tyler; sister, Wanda Ray of Ennis; and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his friends, Frank Dunn,
Chuck Rash, Tom Lester II, Bill Barnes, Dwayne Seaboalt, Hartley Young,
Carroll Moran and Billy Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Mickey McCain,
J.D. Burleson, Coy Hodge, Bruce Morris, Freddy Mosley, Gary Schlemmer,
Don Parrish and Carl Wayne Morris and the rest of his hunting and
fishing buddies.
Services and the celebration of Beryl's life
will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at Northside Baptist
Church where he was a longtime member. Dr. Bob Webb and Dr. David Hale
will officiate the service. Interment will follow at
Kerens Cemetery.
The family will be accepting visitors from 6 to
8 p.m. today at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana.

Ray Goldesberry passed away Aug. 28, 2003, at
Navarro Regional Hospital. A long-time resident of Corsicana, he was
born in Strawn, Texas, May 1, 1926. He was an active member of Wesley
United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club. A
WW II veteran, Ray was a
self-employed accountant and former owner of Roy's Cafe.
His father and mother, William and Daisy
Goldesberry, brother, Bill Goldesberry, and grandson, Stuart Goldesberry,
preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Naomi
Goldesberry, sister Wilma Ballard of Dallas, son Roger Goldesberry and
wife Sally of Dallas, daughter Karen Bailey and husband Charles of
Vicenza, Italy. Surviving grandchildren are Dan Goldesberry, Kari
Goldesberry, and Margo Shearer and husband Parx, Patrick Bailey, and
Matthew Bailey. Nieces and nephews are Barbara Waldbusser, Cheryl

Russell Eugene Walker, 66, of Bowie, Texas,
passed away Aug. 28, 2003 at his home. Services are pending in Bowie.
Mr. Walker was born Nov. 24, 1936 in Corsicana
and went to school in Corsicana.
He was a veteran of the
Korean conflict. After the service
he settled in Bowie with his wife Joy. Gene was a dozier operator most
of his life until he retired.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife Joy and
parents Russell and Lorene Walker and stepmother Charlotte Walker.
Gene is survived by sons Rusty Walker of Fort
Worth, Keith and Greta Walker of Bowie, daughter Kathie of Pottsboro;
grandchildren Cheyene, Justin, Matthew, Katie, Kacie and Zackery;

Russell Eugene “Gene” Walker, age 66, of Bowie, TX, passed
away August 29, 2003 in Bowie, TX.
Mr. Walker was born November 24, 1936 in Corsicana, TX. He married
Joy L. Whitaker on December 21, 1957 in Bowie, TX. He was a member of
the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ and was a member of the
Reddy-McClellan VFW Post 8789 in Bowie, TX. He was an employee of
Pioneer Aggregate Rock Crusher in Bridgeport for 30 years. He served in
the U.S. Army in B Battery, 6th Howitzer Battalion 15th Artillery
Division.
Funeral services for Mr. Walker were held Tuesday, September 2,
2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Carter Lake Road Church of Christ with David
Hall officiating. Interment was at Sunset Cemetery under the direction
of Fry Funeral Home.
Surviving relatives include: two sons, Russell Sterling Walker,
Fort Worth, TX, and Keith Ray Walker, Montague, TX; one daughter, Kathy
Gay Tate, Pottsboro, TX; six grandchildren; one brother, Eddie Walker,
Fort Worth, TX; one sister, Joyce Rash, Mildred, TX; and several nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy L. Walker on
February 9, 2002.

away September 1, 2003 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens.

member of Payne Springs United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by husband Estle

Winkie (Pierce) Stroube

A memorial service for Winkie Pierce Stroube
will be held at Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas on Saturday,
Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. She died August 31 after a lengthy illness.
She was born on Nov. 7, 1920, to Festus and
Alnela Pierce in Corsicana, where she met and later married her
kindergarten sweetheart, Jack A Stroube, in 1941.
After graduating from Corsicana High School,
she attended and graduated from Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tenn.
Already an accomplished pianist, she went on to study at Eastman School
of Music in Rochester, N.Y., and was the first female student to attend
the Yale University School of Music. She later received a degree in
music from Southern Methodist University. She spent much of her life as
a performer and accompanist for community, church and other civic
activities.
When her husband returned from World War II, he
joined the family oil business in Corsicana, where they eventually had
three children. In 1954, at the expansion of the oil business in West
Texas, the family moved to Abilene, where they lived for almost 11 years
before moving to Dallas.
In all three towns, she was an active Bible
Study teacher. In Abilene, she became the first inter-denominational
Bible teacher at the Abilene Women's Club and taught hundreds of women
for years. She was a frequent speaker at numerous retreats both for the
Methodist Church and inter-denominational groups. In Corsicana, she
taught Sunday School in the Youth Department at First United Methodist
Church; in Abilene, she taught the Young Adult Galilean Class and then
the High School Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church; in Dallas,
she taught the Adult Bible Study Class at Northaven United Methodist
Church.
At Northaven, while serving on the Organ
Committee, in the early 1970s, she conceptualized the possibility of
providing the church the finest church organ available. Her fund raising
efforts resulted in the installation of a Redman Tracker Pipe Organ, the
first one of its kind in a Dallas church. She served on many boards and
committees at all three churches, and at Northaven she was Chairperson
of the Board.
In addition to her family, her great passions
were Northaven United Methodist Church and The Dallas Symphony.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack
A. Stroube, and her sisters Anna Mary Atchley of Chattanooga, Tenn., and
Bette Pierce Wells of Dallas. She is survived by her three children --
Mary Stroube Adams, wife of Louis W. Adams of Temple; William Pierce
Stroube, husband of Martha Winslow Stroube of Dallas and Frank Aldrich
Stroube, husband of Ellen Stroube of Dallas. Her grandchildren include
Wendy Adams Dominguez, wife of Mark Dominguez of Roanoke; William
Stroube Adams of Wroclaw Poland; Anne Adams of Chicago, Ill.; Jack
Winslow Stroube of Boulder, Colo.; Jeffrey Pierce Stroube of Dallas;
Mark Aldrich Stroube of Austin; Matthew Aldrich Stroube of Dallas and
Sarah Julia Stroube of Dallas.

Mrs. Cohen was born July 11, 1923, in Hoeboken,
N. J. to Louis and Rose Spivak Schulman. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39
years, Sam Cohen; and brothers, Marvin and Joseph Allen.
Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law,
Mark Cohen of Rockwall and Michael and Karen Cohen of Denton; daughter
and son-in-law, Judi and Kim Wyatt of Corsicana; and grandchildren,

Corsicana passed away Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003 in Corsicana.

Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Pool officiating. Interment will
follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkinson attended That Church and worked
at Marfa's One Stop in Rice.
He was preceded in death by his mother,
Katherine Ann Wilkinson.
Mr. Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Nancy
Wilkinson of Corsicana; sons, David E. Wilkinson Jr. and Marion Joseph
Wilkinson of Corsicana and Richard Allen Wilkinson of Midland;
stepdaughters, Suzanne Marie Cooley of Corsicana and Shanna LeAn
Waterberry and Melynda Gayle Cooley, both of Battle Creek, Mich.;
granddaughters, Danni Cooley, Hanna Waterberry and Faith Makenzie
Waterberry, all of Battle Creek, and Angel Wilkinson of Midland; father,
Marion H. Wilkinson of Corsicana; brothesr, Virgil Wilkinson and Pat
Wilkinson, both of Corsicana; sister, Donna Divin of Gonzales; and

Major Ralph Carmack Bills
Major Ralph Carmack Bills, retired, will be
honored with a memorial service at the First United Methodist Church in
Dawson on Sept. 6, 2003, at 11:00 a.m.
Mr. Ralph Carmack Bills was born to Mr. and
Mrs. J.A. (Pete) Bills, of the Spring Hill Community. He was the third
of five children born to this couple. He graduated from Dawson High
School in 1936,
then attended Texas A&M University before entering the Army Air Force in
1941.
He received his commission and wings at
Stockton Field in California before serving in the Pacific Campaign and
Australia. At the end of WWII,
he was Operational Officer at Tokyo Air Force Base. It was there he met
his future wife, Norma Cooper. They were married in 1947.
Upon his completion of duty there, he and his
wife came home to the States where he served at the Pentagon for three
years.
In his military career, he was a P-38 and P-51
fighter pilot. He was decorated for downing Japanese Zeros over New
Guinea in December of 1942. He then received the Air Medal, the
first of seven Oak Leaf Clusters, the Bronze Medal, Silver Star,
Presidential
Citation and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He
returned to the States from active duty in July of 1944.
After retirement as a Major, he was a test
pilot for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kan. Later, he headed the flight
department at Beech. He remained there until his retirement at age 65.
He and his wife, Norma, then moved to Midland,
Texas, where he became active in the Confederate Air Force. The couple
enjoyed traveling extensively in their motor home. They had been married
56 years at the time of his death.
Mr. Bills is survived by his wife Norma of
Midland, sisters Sarah Womack of Houston and Sue Floyd of Grandview. He
was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.A. (Pete) Bills,
sister Wilda Slater and brother Hulen Bills. Also surviving are eight
nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Corsicana; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Karen Maxwell of Purdon;

Garvis was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Emhouse to
Laura and Bezaleus Ray. Garvis was one of 14 children raised in Emhouse.
In 1936, he married Marguerite Maggard in Emhouse. During World War II,
he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees in Alaska and Okinawa. In 1945, he
moved to Monahans with Shell Oil Company. He retired from Shell after 35
years and moved to Midland. He was an active member of First Baptist
Church in Midland. Garvis loved golf and shot his age at 83, something
of which he was proud. Garvis will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55
years, Marguerite Eloise Ray.
Survivors include his sisters, Marie Adams of
Beaumont and Christine Luther of Corsicana; daughter, Kathy Davenport of
Midland; son, Charles D. Ray and wife Lynne of Midland; four
granddaughters, Jennifer Adair and husband Patrick of Lubbock,
Anna-Margaret Morris and husband Trey of Austin, Debi Hardwick and
husband Mark of Midland and Sheri Faust and husband Donny of New
Orleans; two grandsons, Bryan Davenport of Dallas and Ross Sport of
Midland; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Dollie Pearl (Miller) Yeldell
January 9, 1930 -
DOLLIE PEARL (MILLER) YELDELL was born on January 9, 1930 in
Chatfield, Texas. She was the second of eleven children born to the
union of Ocell Miller, Sr. and Frankie Pearl Miller. She received her
early education in Texas. Sis. Yeldell obeyed the gospel at an early
age.
She met Nokomis Yeldell in 1946. They were married on September
28, 1947. To this union five children were born. In 1949 she moved to
Phoenix, Arizona with her husband, Bro. Yeldell to begin his ministry.
The family moved to Abilene, Texas in 1955 where they began working at
the 10th and Treadway Church of Christ. In 1960, Dollie moved to Memphis
where she began working with the Vance Avenue Church of Christ
(currently Norris Road).
Sis. Yeldell, worked hand in hand with her husband for more than
50 years. She served on a leadership in South Africa in 1991. She also
accompanied her husband on a tour of the Holylands in 1998. Sis. Yeldell
traveled several times to Kingston, Jamaica in support of gospel
meetings and campaigns.
She traveled extensively with Bro. Yeldell to numerous cities and
states throughout the continental United States and provinces of Canada.
Sis. Yeldell was nominated woman of the year in 1968 by the
Memphis Inter-Denominational Fellowship. She has spoken in lectureships
in Texas, New Mexico, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi. She
was a Bible School teacher and Sunday morning of the Ladies Adult Class
II. She worked with the Sunny Sixties Class each Thursday morning in
preparing meals and ministering to our Senior members. She worked
diligently for many years as Coordinator of the Memphis Area Boosters
for Southwestern Christian College of Terrell, Texas in support of
Christian education. Sis. Yeldell was a member of the National
Ministers’ Wives Conference.
It was God’s will for Sister Dollie to depart this life February
5, 2003 at Baptist Memorial Hospital East, Memphis, Tennessee.
She leaves to cherish her memories a loving and devoted husband of
55 years, Nokomis Yeldell, also left to cherish her memory are five
children, Dollie Jean Winston (B.G.), Elaine James (Charles), Avis
Antoinette Moore (Maurice), all of Memphis, Nokomis Yeldell II (Jonita),
Knoxville, TN, Byron Lynn Yeldell (Yolanda), Savannah, GA; five
grandchildren, Kristian D. Winston (LaQuesta), Knoxville, TN, Jason A.
Winston of Nashville, TN, Michelle R. Winston, Memphis, TN, Nokomis
Yeldell, III, Farmington, MI., and Chelsea Yeldell, Savannah, GA. She
leaves seven sisters; Mary March (Robert), Tommie Faye Bedford (Larry),
Yvonne Moore (Frank) all of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Laura Elder
(Charles), Beverly Fulbright, and Bobbie Wright, all of Dallas, and
Beatrice Hawthorne, Ft. Worth, Texas; two brothers, Ocell Miller, Jr.
(Anne), Leonard Miller (Leonard Miller (Luella) both of Dallas; one
brother-in-law, Starling Yeldell, Jr. of Dallas, Texas; two
sisters-in-law, Jessie Jefferson of Corsicana, Texas; Viola Smith of
Dallas, TX.; one aunt, Maxine Milton of Corsicana, TX.; a host of
nieces, nephews, relatives, many dear friends and a loving church
family.
Sis. Yeldell was a faithful and dedicated Christian, wife and
mother. Her husband “doth safely trust in her. “Her children arise up
and call her blessed.” Sis. Yeldell was well known for her delicious
cooking and her mastery of serving. There are many here today who have
been blessed by her talents and her unselfishness in sharing recipes,
cooking for youth dinners, preparing meals for National Dinner Days (SWCC)
and numerous other worthy causes. She was well know for her home-made
rolls, peach cobbler, chicken and dumplings and grilled beef. She has
been a seamstress to many for weddings, anniversaries and other
occasions.
Over the years, Sis. Yeldell hosted many ministers, their
families, SWCC faculty and students, relatives and friends in her home.
She was epitome of graciousness and hospitality

Joshua--Graveside services for Annie Pryor, 88, of Joshua, were held at
10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11 at Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas.
Mrs. Pryor, a homemaker, passed away in Whitesboro, Texas Wednesday,
July 9, 2003. She was born in Paris, Texas on May 21, 1915.
She is survived by sons, P. W. Pryor of Gordonville, Texas, Albert Pryor
of Berryville, Arkansas and Lee Pryor of California; daughters, Mary
Oakley of Joshua, Betty Botton of Minot, North Dakota and Pat Terry of

John Ellison Moore, 96, of Denton died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, in
Denton.
He was born March 14, 1907, in Navarro County to Robert Ellison
and Pearl Mabel (Horn) Moore.
In 1954, he married Ethel Louise Hoskins in Wichita Falls. The
couple moved to Denton in 1996.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sergeant, T4, in
World War II from late 1942
to late 1945. He worked in the oil field industry.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the
chapel of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Wichita Falls. The Rev.
Stephen Dale Hoskins will officiate. Interment and military honors will
follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at
the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife of Denton; three sisters, Clara Turpin,
Nan Sims and Boots Watson, all of Wichita Falls; five sons, Stephen Dale

She was born on March 1, 1906, in Navarro
County and married Fred Roman on Nov. 25, 1923, in Corsicana. He
preceded her in death on Nov. 21, 1976.
Mrs. Roman came to Knott in 1929 from
Corsicana. She and her late husband operated a grocery store in Knott
and later they also farmed.
She was a member of East Fourth Street
Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby W. Roman
of Midland and Jerry Roman of Knott; one daughter, M. Joyce Walker of
Big Spring; two sisters, Faye Strickland of Tyler and Lila Henderson of
Abilene; one brother, Doyle Reid of Abilene; four grandsons, Alan W.
Roman and Jimmy F. Walker, both of Midland, Dennis W. Walker of Fort
Stockton and Dale L. Walker of Big Spring; three granddaughters, Sharon

Mrs. Bray was born Jan. 25, 1927, in Frisco to
Bill Randolph and Rosie Pittman Radolph. She married David Bray on June
20, 1969. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Frost Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, David Bray of
Frost; sons, Alton Lee Culverhouse of Anchorage, Alaska, and Ted Wayne
Culverhouse of Frost; stepson, Gary David Bray of Forney; stepdaughters,
Jim Ann Anderson of Garland, Linda Kay Bray of Fort Bragg, Calif., and
Betty Renee Frazier of Frost; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-children;
brothers, William S. Rudolph of Gun Barrel City, Rudy Rudolph of DeSoto,
Weldon Rudolph of Justin, Leon Rudolph of Flower Mound; sisters, Dora
Stice of Rockwall, Vergie Pardue of Grand Prairie, Joyce Scarbrough and
Sarah McCarthy, all of DeSoto; numerous nieces and nephews.

Earnest Ray McCurdy, 77, of Corsicana passed
away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Heritage Oaks West.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today
at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at
Griffin-Roughton Chapel with the Rev. Curtis Gilbert officiating.
Interment will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.

Dickerson, Richard Dickerson, Archie Dickerson, Jackie Dickerson and Don
Estes.
Mr. McCurdy was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Palouse,
Wash., to Dee McCurdy and Tracy Hewlitt McCurdy. He served in
World War II. He was a truck
driver.
Survivors include his wife, Tommie McCurdy of
Corsicana; son, Robby McCurdy of Spring; daughters, Virginia Ivie or
Rockwall, and Kathy McCurdy and Sherry McCurdy, both of Austin; 10
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Annie Bailey Tinkle, 78, of Carrollton passed
away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in Plano.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Corley
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mike Alexander officiating. Interment will
follow at Pattison Cemetery.
Mrs. Tinkle was born April 7, 1925, in Angus.
She was a former resident of Grand Prairie for 45 years and was a member
of the Methodist church.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Nathan Randall Tinkle.
Survivors include her daughters and
sons-in-law, Janie and David Miller of Carrollton and Tina and Max
Pietsch of Green Bay, Wis.; son, James Randy Tinkle of Grand Prairie;
grandsons, Ryan Miller of Denton and Brian Pietsch and Scott Pietsch,
both of Green Bay, Wis.; granddaughters, Lori Miller of Carrollton and
Loren Pietsch of Green Bay, Wis.; sisters, Eunice Russell and Betty

Pursley
Kent County Ranchwoman Dies at 77
JAYTON. Oct 27 (RNS) - Mrs Gertrude Pursley, 77,
prominent pioneer Kent County ranchwoman, died here Saturday
following a long illness.
She was born Aug 25, 1879, in Navarro County, Texas, and came
to Kent County shortly after the county was organized in 1894.
In 1895 she married married Berry Pursley. Their marriage was
one of the first recorded in the county's official records.
Mr. and Mrs. Pursley owned and operated extensive ranching interests
in northeastern Kent and southern Dickens Counties for many years.
Pursley died June 10, 1916.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the
First Methodist Church in Jayton with the pastor, the Rev. Carl
Hudson, officiating. Burial will be in the Jayton Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John H. Montgomery, Dallas Kenady,
Bill Jones, Eldon Wade, Rex Alexander and Earl Hall.
Survivors include a daughter Miss Thelma Pursley and a son
Granville Pursley, with whom she made her home in Jayton; one
sister, Mrs. M. E. Bond, also of Jayton.

Tankersley MRS. ELIZABETH TANKERSLEY
Mrs. Elizabeth Tankersley was born in Sebastian County Arkansas in 1850.
She was 77 years old. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip
Trammel. They moved to Nevarro (sic) County Texas in 1851.
She was married to James Tankersley in 1868 at Springfield Texas.
To this union were born five children; Three boys and two girls.
She is survived by two girls and one son, Eight grandchildren, Six great
grandchildren, two brothers and the sister. She was convverted
in 1881 at the Rushing school house and joined the Methodist Church.
She was a strict adherent to the ten commandments and was a faithful,
kind and loving mother to her children. She was one of the pioneer
women who endured the hardships of pioneer life without faltering.
She has may friends whom she loved and who will miss her sorely.

Pauline Tucker Roman, 83, of Corsicana passed
away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in Corsicana.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today
at Corley Funeral Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Corley
Funeral Chapel with the Rev. B.F. Risinger Jr., Brother Bill Honea and
Dr. Carey Ford officiating. Interment will follow at
Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Robinson, Kenneth
Womack, Gary Roman, Joe Read, Pete Youngblood and Jim Nokes.
Mrs. Roman was born May 1, 1920, in Corbet. She
was a member of First Baptist Church, the Lydia class and Kinsloe House.
She was an active leader in the PTO and 4-H Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Newton Roman; and parents, Sam and Rebecca Tucker.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law,
Rebecca and Kit Boyd of Corsicana; sons, John Roman and Rob Roman and
wife Celia, all of Corsicana, and Mark Roman and wife Terry of Cross
Roads; granddaughters, Ellen (Roman) Sodd and husband Jason and
Elizabeth Roman, all of Corsicana, and Katie Roman of Dallas; and
grandsons, Sam Roman of Dallas and Roman Boyd and Robbie Boyd, both of
Corsicana.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society or charity of choice.

Rotilda 'Tillie' (Castles)
Matthews
Rotilda "Tillie" Castles Matthews, 92, passed
away on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in Houston. She was born April 11,
1911, in Corsicana to Walter Hunter Castles and Annie Dunham Castles,
the sixth of eight children. She moved to Houston in 1936, where she met
and married Lloyd Nelson Matthews on May 29, 1939. They were married
until his death in 1981.
Tillie was actively involved in community and
church affairs. In the 1950s, she was a member of the Houston Bar Assn.
Auxiliary, the Houston Cosmopals & Cosmopolitans, and the Braes Heights
Garden Club, as well as a volunteer at the Alley Theater. In addition,
she began working on the Dunham family history, which led to work on the
Matthews and related family histories. She was a member of St. Paul's
United Methodist Church for 40 years, followed by memberships at Ashford
UMC, and Memorial Drive UMC. The Revs. Jim McPhail and Thomas Hill and
staff were unfailing in their support through prayers and visits.
During her daughter Judy's school years, Tillie
was chairman of the Hospitality Committees at Mark Twain Elementary,
Pershing Junior High School, and Bellaire Senior High School. She was
also active in the ZTA Mothers Club at the University of Houston. During
the 1970s, Tillie and Lloyd began spending their time at the Owen family
land near Kerens. She and her family loved the outdoors and spent many
enjoyable hours there hunting and working on the land.
Tillie is survived by her daughter Judith
"Judy" Matthews Alyea and son-in-law James "Jim" I. Alyea. She had one
grandchild, James "Jimmy" Lloyd Alyea, who was as much her son as her
grandson. She is also survived by her sister Genevieve C. Dockery of
Corsicana, as well as seven nieces and nephews and their families. Her
beloved extended family included Ann Finkelstein of Houston, Hub
Finkelstein (deceased), and David and Susan Finkelstein.
The family would like to thank the doctors and
staff at Memorial-Hermann Memorial City Hospital and its LTAC Unit for
their excellent care and many kindnesses. Dr. George Mammen, Dr. Adam
Kawley, Dr. Alfredo Viteri, Dr. Pallavolu Reddy, and Dr. Akram
Shakhashiro were special blessings. The family also wishes to extend
their sincere thanks and appreciation to loving caregivers Helen Mathis,
Annie Broussard, Wanda Ann White, and Patricia Coleman. Their devotion,
compassion, loving touch, and constant vigil were a source of strength
to Tillie and her family.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Matthews family plot in
Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana.
Brother Bill Honea will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Drive United
Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079, or to the
charity of choice.

Reba Lorene Seale McReynolds, 84, of Orange, Texas, died Monday,
September 1, 2003.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2003, at
Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be Mr. Tommy
Gore, minister of the Fellowship Church of Christ in Orange. Burial
will follow at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
A native of Dawson, Texas, Mrs. McReynolds had lived in Orange since
1943. She was a homemaker, a Sunday school teacher and a member of
Fellowship Church of Christ. She had also worked at the Orange Post
Office during World War II.
Preceded in death by her husband, Hubert T. "Pete" McReynolds, she
is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Wayne
McCamey of Orange, Joanne and Mike Hill of Bridge City;
grandchildren, Luke McCamey, Andy Hill, Katy Hill, Tyler and Tara
McCamey and Justin and Jill Hill; and great-grandson, Aubrey McCamey.
Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne McCamey, Mike Hill, Tyler
McCamey, Luke McCamey, Justin Hill and Andy Hill.
