Corsicana, Tex., Jan. 19. - "Muggins" Ingram, a negro man aged about 30 years and married, met with a horrible death in Rock creek bottom, two and a half miles north of the city, while chopping wood, a three-ton long rolling on him and crushing his life out. He had felled a large pin oak that was two and a half feet through at the butt and was standing on the trunk cutting off the "butt cutt." When the ax went through the log the butt end dropped, causing Ingram to fall backwards to the ground and before he could recover himself the severed part of the trunk of the tree rolled down an incline square onto his breast, killing him before any one learned of the accident. A negro boy passing by shortly afterward discovered the body with the immense log across the breast and gave the alarm. An inquest was held by Justice Walton and a verdict rendered in accordance with the above statement.
