Ethel McClure Is Buried

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 10, in the Dresden United Methodist Church for Ethel Melton McClure, a former resident of the Dresden area who died on Friday, Sept. 8, in Pampa, her home for the past 14 years.

Officiating at the services were the Rev. Leroy Reaves, pastor of the BG United Methodist Church, and the Rev. Thurman Smotherman, pastor of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in Dresden Cemetery.
Services were under the direction of Ballard Funeral Home.

Survivors include a son, Arthur B. Clark of Pampa; two brothers, Zack Melton Jr. and Roy Melton, both of Fort Worth; two sisters, Vera Melton and Mrs. Lucy Brister, both of Dresden; 3 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Clovis Haden, Arthur Garrison, Bill Woodland, J.D.
Melton, Dean Melton, and J.D. Patterson.

Services were held recently at the United Methodist Church in Blooming Grove for Roy Melton, 69, resident of Fort Worth and formerly of Blooming Grove, who died at his residence.

Leroy Reaves, minister of the Blooming Grove United Methodist Church, officiated at the service with burial following at Dresden Cemetery.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ruth Melton of Fort Worth; two daughters, Mrs. Roianne Albert of Fort Worth and Mrs. Raejean Little of Fort Worth; one brother, Zak Melton of Fort Worth; two sisters, Veran Melton of Blooming Grove and Mrs. Lucy Brister of Blooming Grove, and six grandsons.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Ballard Funeral Home Chapel in Blooming Grove for Mrs. Alice Mae Derryberry, 84, resident of Blooming Grove, who died Wednesday, February 7, at Navarro County Memorial Hospital in Corsicana.

The Rev. Leroy Reaves officiated with burial following at Dresden Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Wilburn Derryberry of Corsicana and Henry Derryberry of Dallas, three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Jones of Dallas; Mrs. Velma McClure of Blooming Grove and Mrs. Alla Mae Capps of Corsicana; two brothers, Homer Hopkins and John Hopkins of Corsicana; a sister, Mrs. Pink Richards of Blooming Grove; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was a retired postal employee.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Corley Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. B. F. Risinger Jr. officiatig. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Oleander Cemetery in Galveston.
He was born Oct 5, 1900, in Galveston and was a retired produce buyer for Piggly Wiggly. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha  Harris, of Corsicana; one niece, Julia Crawford, of Purdon; and one nephew, Henry Cooper, of La Marque.

Mrs. Vada Grace Farmer, 82, of Corsicana, died Dec. 21, 1988, at Twilight Nursing Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Horace Crowder and the Rev. Dan Sharpley officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park. Corley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Farmer was born August 3, 1906 in Navarro County and had lived in Corsicana since 1976. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Lola Bower, of Corsicana; one son, Wayne Farmer, of Andrews; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Faye Brink, of Waco, and Robbie Adams, of Dawson; three brothers, Owen Tanner, of Waco, Fred Tanner, of Carrollton, and Rovene Tanner, of Paso Robles, Calif.; and nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bed Fitzgerald, Joe Baumgartner, Rauy Robinson, David Burnett, Billy McNabb, and Wallace Tomlon.

Wake services will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday at the Mount Olive Baptist Church, with the Rev. A. E. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Ross and Johnson Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Southern Pacific Railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Nelson, of Corsicana; one son, Rodney Dean Nelson, of Corsicana; two step-children, Carla Williams Lusk and Marvin Williams, both of Corsicana; one adopted daughter, Anita Nelson, of Corsicana; four grandchildren; mother, Mrs. Vernadean Nelson of Blooming Grove; two brothers, David Nelson of Blooming Grove; two brothers, David Nelson, of Blooming Grove, and James Nelson, of Tyler; and one sister, Gleandall Sanders, of Blooming Grove.

FREESTONE COUNTY MAN CHARGED WITH SLAYING BROTHER
LeRoy Lamb Dead And Webb Lamb Held In Jail At Fairfield After Killing

FAIRFIELD - Aug 5. - Webb Lamb, 25, is in the Freestone county jail under a formal charge of murder in connection with the death of his brother, LeRoy, 32, at the home of his parents eight miles northeast of Wortham about 7:30 Sunday morning. Examining trial has been scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Jim Sessions, reported Monday.
The Elder Lamb boy was fatally wounded by a charge from a .12 gauge shotgun that struck him near the heart, he living about five minutes, officers reported. The shooting occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Lamb, parents of the boys. No reason was given for the shooting.
Freestone county officials could not say what action would be taken following the hearing since there will be no grand jury in session at Fairfied until November. They intimated it was not likely that a special jury would be called.
The deceased is survived by his parents, a widow and one small child, and three brothers, Bert, Homer, and Webb Lamb.
Funeral services were planned for 4 o'clock Monday afternoon with interment at Old Cade cemetery. Oliver Burleson of Wortham directed the funeral arrangements.

FUNERAL SERVICES SATURDAY MORNING FOR W. R. KENNER
Funeral services for William R. (Bee) Kenner, aged 68 years, who died Thursday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock, were held from the family home 1601 West Thirteenth avenue. Saturday  morning at 10 o'clock with burial in Oakwood cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. W. R. Hall, pastor of the First Presbyterian church.
Mr. Kenner had been ill several weeks. He had been a resident of Corsicana for many years and was manager of the Corsicana Cotton Warehouse Company.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Billie, Walter, and Jack Kenner; a daughter, Emily Kenner, all of Corsicana, a brother, Rod Keener, Corsicana; three sisters, Mrs. C. W. Moores, and Mrs. Leon Guynes, both of Corpus Christi, and Mrs. P. M. Parks, Dallas, and other relatives.
Pallbearers were Guy M. Gibson, R. L. Hamilton, Ed M. Polk, Sr., John Sloan, J. E. Butler, J. O Burke, Dee Poindexter, B. L. Frost, Ab King and Byron Cheney.
The funeral was directed by the Corley Funeral Home.

A rosary for Clara Cantu, 91, of Corsicana, is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Chapel with Deacon Lewis Palos officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery, with Rev. Bobby E. McCollum officiating. Mrs. Cantu was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Matamoros, Mexico, the daughter of the late Segundino Garcia and Cruz Garcia. She passed from this life Thursday, April 2, 2009, at her home in Corsicana. She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Mrs. Cantu moved with her family to Corsicana in 1957 from Bishop. Mrs. Cantu is survived by her husband, Francisco Cantu of Corsicana; sons, Arnulfo Cantu Sr. and wife Maria of Corsicana, and Jesse Cantu and wife Patricia of Corsicana; daughters, Petra Cantu of Purdon, Mary Bland and husband Calvin of Corsicana, Maria E. Cantu of Corsicana, and Rosie Laubscher and husband John of Dawson; grandsons, Joel Cantu, Roel Cantu Jr., Noel Cantu, Arnulfo Cantu, Alex Cantu, Christopher Stringer, Stephen Cantu, Higinio Cantu Jr., and Sebastian Cantu; granddaughters, Petra Williams, Mary Estepp, Alice Gray, Michelle Slakey, Maria Chrislda Ross, Jennifer Warnix and Patricia Wells. Mary Maurine (Fields) Cook passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2009, after a short illness. She was born Sept. 27, 1917, in Emmett to John Marvin and Maggie Vesper Fields. She graduated from Frost High School in 1935. She was first married to Nathan W. Redding and raised her family in Grand Prairie. In 1980 she married Ellis F. Cook at First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie, where she was a member for the past 60 years. In her later years, she worked in food service at Grand Prairie High School, LTV and AMR cafeterias. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael L. Redding; and her husband, Ellis F. Cook. Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Redding Little and her husband, David; grandchildren, Vicki Little and David Little and wife, Wanda; great-grandchildren, Christy Davis, Garret and Kyle Little; and great-great-grandchildren, Morgan and Trevior Davis. She is also survived by her brother, Ramsey Fields of Barry, and sister Christene Melton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Grand Prairie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie. Lucille English
Lucille English, 59, was born Nov. 20, 1949, in Corsicana to Cleveland and Georgia Louise Yeldell. She attended and graduated from G.W. Jackson School in Corsicana, where she was a longtime resident. After high school, Lucille continued her education and became a certified medication aide, and was last employed by Corsicana Nursing Home in 1998, before she became ill. She was well known by family and friends for her beautiful smile, caring and kind spirit, and giving heart. Lucille confessed a faith in Christ at an early age, and was a faithful member of Second Mission Baptist Church.She departed this life on Monday, March 30, 2009, at Arlington Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She leaves behind a husband, McArthur English; three daughters, April Mwamba (Mike) of Cedar Hill, Regina Williams (Cedric) of Corsicana, and Kristen English of Arlington; one son, Douglas English (Tina) of Corsicana; one sister, Margaret Wigfall of Fort Worth; three brothers, Jessie Yeldell of DeSoto, Cleveland Yeldell Jr. (Hattie) of Lancaster, and Ricky Yeldell of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Joslynn, Kevin, Jessica, Robert, Christopher, Olivia, Adrian and Devin; great-grandchildren, Damia, Deazia and Dereck Singleton; and a host of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Essie Yeldell and Mary Louise Yeldell Bowens. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Second Mission Baptist Church, 909 S. Ronald Ray Hiler, 67, of Frost, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2009, in Corsicana. He was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Blooming Grove to George and Georgia Hiler. Mr. Hiler was a longtime resident of Trinidad where he worked for 23 years with Texas Utilities. He enjoyed woodworking and building things; his greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren, fishing and playing with them. Mr. Hiler is survived by wife, Sandra Hiler of Frost; sons, Brent and Tara Hiler of Van, Bryan and Paulette Hiler of Frost, and Jeff Hiler of Arlington; grandchildren, Aaron, Amy, Blake, Reid, Leah and Bryan Thomas Hiler; special grandchildren, Ashley and Jennifer Rhodes; and brothers and sisters, Macel Nicholson of Barry, Dot and Bob Russell of Blooming Grove, Barbara and Jerry Garrison of Kerens, Doug and Mary Hiler of Blooming Grove. He was preceded in death by parents, George and Georgia Holcomb Hiler; siblings, Inez Hemmingway, Fern Woodland, Sadie Hill, Maxine Armstrong, Mattie Niver and Hugh Hiler. Mattie Pearl Jones
Mattie Pearl Jones, 78, was born in Dallas County on Aug. 1, 1930, to parents Lawrence "Jack" Carter and Georgia Gentry Carter. She received her formal education in Freestone County and professed a faith in Christ at an early age. She met and married James Ingram Jr. and to this union four children were born: James, Pamela, John and Bob. She later married the Rev. Clem Jones and to this union one child was born: Crissandra. Mattie Pearl led an inspiring life. In her early 40s, she received her GED and enrolled in the Navarro College nursing program where she earned her L.V.N. license. She worked for many years as an L.V.N. at Mel-Haven Convalescent Home and ended her career at Westside Development Center. She became a member of Harmony Baptist Church and served in many capacities. She was a member of the choir and also a member of the Friendship Auxiliary where she served as a teacher. She was also a licensed minister, and served as Navarro County directress for the Friendship District Association. Later she united with Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church where she was one of the mothers of the church. She was also a member of the Women AGLOW and Navarro County Ministers' Wives. Mattie Pearl was a great source of wisdom, inspiration and strength. She departed this life Tuesday, March 31, 2009. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and six brothers; husband, the Rev. Clem Jones; daughter, Crissandra Jones Lee; and granddaughter, Angel Thibodeaux. She leaves to cherish her memories four children: James (Ruth) Ingram and John (Cher') Ingram, all of DeSoto, Pamela (Charles) Colbert of Corsicana, and Bob Ingram of Dallas; 13 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of cousins and friends. Wake service will be 7 p.m. today at Ross and Johnson Mortuary Chapel with expressions of love given at this time. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Straight Way Missionary Baptist Church, 400 S. 15th St., with the Rev. Samuel Washington officiating and Pastor Alvin E. Smith as eulogist. Interment will follow at Woodland Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dante' Williams, Joshua Wright, Vernon Colbert, Jason Ingram, Leon Tilley and Billy Hubbard. Glenn Charles "Buster" Auerbach Sr., 85, of Kerens, passed from this life peacefully Thursday, April 2, 2009, at the ETMC Hospital in Athens. Glenn was born Sept. 15, 1923, in Curry to Charles and Effie Lewis Auerbach. Glenn served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a well-respected general contractor. He retired at age 75. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Effie Auerbach; brothers, Larry and Don Auerbach; and one sister, Charlene Massey. He is survived by wife of 42 years, Haydee Melon Auerbach; life-long friend, Judy Sanchez; children, Brenda Fields and husband Larry, Glenn "Coco" Auerbach Jr. and wife Joan, Debbie Edrington and husband Bruce, Gary Auerbach, Rickey Auerbach and wife Cathy, David Auerbach, Randy Auerbach and wife Cheryl, and Rodney Auerbach; sisters, Juanita Nowlin, and Claudine Orchard and husband Jim; brothers-in-law, Enrique Melon and wife Tata, Felipe Melon and wife Altita, John Rivera and wife Auria; sisters-in-law, Blanca Sevillans, Jose Antonio and Gina Morillo; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce Florene (Cotton) Mitchell

Joyce Florene Cotton-Mitchell was born Feb. 18, 1943, in Rock Creek to William and Irene Cotton. She went on to be with Christ Friday, April 3, 2009, in Dallas, due to complications from a liver transplant. She married the love of her life, Joe Mitchell, June 9, 1961. Together they shared their lives building family, faith and friends. Her "can-do" attitude showed up early as she graduated valedictorian of her class at Graford High School. After starting her family, she began her career as an interior designer and opened Mitchell Interiors in Corsicana. After retiring from her business, she earned her master's degree in public administration from Dallas Baptist University. She then served with the State of Texas at MHMR in Mexia. While excelling in business, her life revolved around her family and faith. She raised two sons, Kevin and Kyle, to serve God in all things and modeled serving others by leading in her church, building churches with the Texas Retired Builders, going on mission trips and giving to mission projects over the world. She is survived by her husband of nearly 48 years, Joe Mitchell; her sons, Kevin Mitchell and wife Kathy of Mansfield and Kyle Mitchell and wife Lisa of Midlothian; and seven loving grandchildren, Grant, Garett, Gage, Makenzie, Ian, Caed and Braedan. Also surviving are brothers, Lee Roy Cotton and Clyde Dean Cotton; and her sister, Joan Allred; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her mother and father; her brother, Marvin Cotton; and sister, June Cotton-Wagnon. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Corley Funeral Home in Corsicana. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Northside Baptist Church in Corsicana with the Rev. Rick Lamb officiating. Hugo Daniel Salas, 16, of The Colony passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009. Hugo was born June 10, 1992, in Laredo. Hugo was a student at The Colony High School. He was witty, funny and well liked by everyone that knew him. He was always willing to give a helping hand and was a good listener. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Ignacio Perez I; his uncle, Ignacio Perez II; his father, David Salas Sr.; and his baby sister, Teresita. He is survived by his mother, Rosa Maria; and stepdad Jose Silva; his twin brother, Diego Salas; brothers, David Salas and Nestor Salas; sister, Rosy Salas; his abuelita, Hortencia Perez; many aunts, uncles and 31 cousins who will miss him greatly. FUNERAL SUNDAY FOR MRS. BROWN AT PRAIRIE POINT
Mrs. Mary Emma Brown, aged 76 years, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. L. Tubbs, Mamie avenue, early Sunday, Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the Prairie Point cemetery with interment in the Prairie Point cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. S. R. Goff, pastor of the Northside Baptist church.
Surviving are four children Mrs. Hugh Wheat, Coleman; Seth Brown, Brownfield; Mrs. Tubbs, Corsicana, and Fred Brown, Coleman; seven grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. T. E. Newsom, Fort Worth, and a brother, J. T. McFadden, Mirando City, Texas, and other relatives.
Sutherland-McCammon Funeral Home directed the arrangements.
Active pallbearers were Pete O'Daniel, Elmer Norris, Rube Bennett, Harold Wheat, Duren Norris and Russell Carroll.
Honorary pallbearers were J. O. Burke, B. L. Davis, R. R. Owen, O. E. Stone, J. S. Callicut, John David, Lee Jester, Will Price, Derens, and Bob Coates, Kerens.

Funeral services for Domingo Digueroa, aged seven years, of Chatfield, who died Saturday morning, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. The rites were conducted by Monsignor V. Graffero.
Surviving are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Silvester Figueroa, Chatfield; a brother, and five sisters.

He was a native and life-long resident of Navarro County, the retired owner of the International Truck Agency and was a Baptist.

SAVOY - Billy Jack McCurdy, 58, of Savoy, died Saturday in a Sherman hospital after being struck by a car.

Dovie Lee Strange, 98, of Kerens, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Heritage Oaks Retirement Village in Corsicana. Dovie was born to William H. and Nettie F. Kyser on Nov. 30, 1910, in Kerens. She graduated from Kerens High School in 1931. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. Dovie was a member of the Navarro County Home Demonstration Club. She was noted for her many quilts that she made. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Strange; and brothers, Eldridge and Charlie "Buz" Kyser. She is survived by her children, Bazel and wife Mona Strange of Kerens and Betty and husband Claude Armstrong of Richardson; grandchildren, Ed and wife Christy Strange of Kerens and Pam and husband Randy Cole of Emory; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Rhett and Dawson, all of Kerens, and Briley and Corley Cole of Emory; and special caregiver, Gladys Coleman. She was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church. Elizabeth's life constantly revolved around her loving family, and she took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He received his B.A. from SMU in 1959, and his M.A. from the University of Arizona in 1969. He served in the United States Air Force from 1943 until 1966, retiring as a Major. He loved to travel to visit friends around the globe, smoke fine cigars, read, and speak Japanese and Spanish. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel A. Carter Sr. and Lillie Emily Hogan Carter; brothers, Issac, Clyde, Fields, Paul and Thomas; and a sister, Oma Shelley. Jack Tramel went to be with his Lord Friday morning, April 17, 2009, after a three year battle with cancer. He was born March 4, 1930, in Bazette, Texas to John and Arlene Pierce Tramel who precedes him in death as well as infant daughter Becky Tramel. He retired from Firestone Tire and Rubber Company after thirty-six and a half years of service. He served his country during the Korean War in Japan in the U.S. Military. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Shirley Tramel of Angus. Daughter Pat Davis and husband Rennie of Angus. Willie A. Wood Of Purdon Dies In Waco On Friday

Funeral services for Willie A. Wood, 61, Purdon ginner, who died in Waco Friday afternoon, were held from the Purdon Baptist church Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Burial was in the Younger Cemetery. The rites were conducted by Rev. Roy Tumlinson.

Wood had been in ill health for some time.

Surviving are his wife of Purdon; three daughters, Mrs. Ford Dempsey and Mrs. John Morris Pickle, both of Waco, and Mrs. Emmett Wallace, Abilene; three grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Josh Melton, Corsicana; and a brother, Henry Wood, Houston.

MRS. LANCASTER IS BURIED IN CAMPBELL CEMETERY ON FRIDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah L. Lancaster, aged 65 years, who died at the P. and S. Hospital Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock were held at Campbell Cemetery, near Drane, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, where interment was made. The rites were conducted by Rev. J. F. Adams, pastor of the Eleventh Avenue Methodist church.

Surviving are three sons, L. Lancaster, Honolulu, Hawaii; Sam Lancaster and Jim Lancaster, both of Corsicana; three daughters, Mrs. Bessie Nokes and Mrs. Ina Bunch, both of Corsicana, and Mrs. Otha Thomas, Purdon; 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, seven brothers and two sisters.

CORSICANA, Texas. - Allen A. York, 62, World War I veteran and long-time peace officer, died of a heart attack at his home here. a native of Purdon, he was a city policeman many years before becoming a guard at the Bethlehem Supply Company's Corsicana plant here twelve years ago.

Funeral services were held at the Corley Chapel Tuesday. Burial was in the Hamilton Cemetery.

A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Troy Miles and assisted by Lonnie Keele, on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 4 p.m. at the Griffin-Roughton Chapel. Family visitation will be at the Griffin-Roughton Chapel Friday from 6-8 p.m.

He was born in Corsicana November 20, 1976. Jimmy was a student at Navarro College studying bookkeeping and hoping to pursue real estate. His generosity was especially to the underdog and needy, but his kindness and warmth were extended for all to enjoy whether personally or in his work, most recently at Victorian Sample.

Jimmy is survived by his mother, Carolyn Watson Sullivan; father, J.R. (Ervin) Sullivan; brother, Robert Lee Sullivan; sister-in-law, Amelia Sullivan; niece, Sylvia Sullivan; nephew, Steven Sullivan; grandfather, Robert Watson; grandmother, Bernie Martin; aunts: Shirley Diaz, Florence Sullivan, Diane Butler, Mary Matte, Bertha Cox, Frances Sullivan, and Shirley Hall; uncles: Sonny Sullivan, Eines Diaz, and Jeff Matte; 21 cousins; and, soul mate, Joe E. Eliot Williams, 65, of Somerville, died Thursday, July 3, at Trinity Medical Center at Brenham.

Services will be held Monday, July 7, at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church of Somerville with the Rev. Phyllis Riney officiating.

Burial will follow at Grape Creek Cemetery at Navarro County near Corsicana. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

Mr. Williams was born May 25, 1932, at Corsicana to William Anthony Williams and Sue Allie Eliot Williams. He was baptized at New Iberia, La., at First United Methodist Church in 1942. He was a retired automobile appraiser and served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. He was married in Sweetwater to his wife, Pat.

He is survived by his wife, Pat Williams of Somerville; his mother, Sue Williams; sons and daughter-in-laws, Robert Williams of Katy, Kennis and Jeanne Morphis of Kingwood; daughters and sons-in-laws, Deborah and Chris Parker of Katy, Debra and Rusty Braun of Willis, and Rebekah and David Calabuig of Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his father, William A. Williams and a son, Russell (Rusty) E. Williams.

Graveside services for Annie Belle Horton McConnico, 86, of Sulphur Springs, formerly of Grand Prairie, will be held today at 2 p.m. in Birdston Cemetery near Streetman, Freestone County.

Mrs. McConnico died Wednesday at the home of her daughter's family after an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 6, 1910, near Streetman, the daughter of William Virgil and Mary Cross Weeks Horton. She married Robert D. "Mike" McConnico on Dec. 25, 1933, in Normangee. He preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 1986.

Mrs. McConnico was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Don O'Neal of Sulphur Springs; grandsons, Scott O'Neal and Steven O'Neal; a sister, Rena Kilgore of Baytown; two brothers, O.O. Horton of Baytown and E.F. Horton of La Porte; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Robert D. "Bob: McConnico, Jr.; one sister, Virgie Mae Tunks; and four brothers, Bradley Horton, Alton Horton, Doyle Horton, and Joel Horton.

Mrs. Berryhill died Tuesday at good Shepherd Medical Center. She was born Aug. 14, 1920, in Grand Bayou, La. She was a resident of Longview since 1990 moving from Minerva. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Air Base Baptist Mission of Hobbs, N.M., and attended Oakland Heights Baptist Church in Longview.

Mrs. Berryhill is survived by three daughters, Ann Stewart and Shirley Oliver, both of Longview, and Von Veuleman of Pleasant Hill, La.; a son, kenneth Berryhill of San Antonio; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Louise Cook.

Mrs. Berryhill was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Kelton Berryhill; a daughter, Maggie Lou Gibbs; and a son, Eugene Lee Berryhill.

He was a Army WWII veteran.

Joe A. Johnston was born October 17, 1918 in Barry and passed away at his home June 21, 1997.

Mr. Johnston was a veteran of WWII. He was a rancher in Fannin and Navarro Counties. He was also an aircraft mechanic. He was a member of the Lake Highlands Baptist Church. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife of 51 years, Garrie Hortense; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Angelia Johnston; granddaughters, Sydney and Shelby; brother, C.W. Johnston of Bonham; sister, Evalee Tackett of Grand Prairie; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Johnston.

Mr. Land was born Feb. 19, 1934 in Hubbard. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1978 as an E-9 Master Sergeant. He was a former resource director at Comstock Casino in Reno. He was born and raised in Hubbard, graduating from Hubbard High School. He was a resident of Dawson the last three months, living in Reno for the previous 15 years.

William "Bill" Lewis Erwin

William Lewis Erwin, 44, of Irving died Sept. 12 at Cedar Creek Lake.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5-7 at the Wade Funeral Home.

Services will be held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Wade Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bruce Austin officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Lang Etheredge, Damon Jamieson, Brent Reiter, Troy Reiter, Dustin Erwin, and Tommy Kimbrell.

Mr. Erwin was born May 7, 1953 in Longview. He was a graduate of Brownfield High School and attended South Plains College in Levelland for two years. He was a self-employed graphite machinist who had lived in Irving for the past 20 years.

Mr. Erwin is survived by his father, Mr. W.C. (Bill) Erwin of Bellmead; mother, Mrs. Belle Erwin of Bellmead; a son, Lucas Pilgrim of Bryan; a brother, Douglas Crawford Erwin of Bellmead; a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Ed Reiter of Fort Worth; one niece, two nephews and one great niece.

Memorials may be made to the Van Fund at the Bellmead First Baptist Church.

Walter Jay Thomas
Walter Jay Thomas was born Aug. 26, 1940, in Dallas County to Doratha Haswell and W.J. Thomas and died Sunday, April 19, 2009. He lived his early years in Cedar Hill. He married Jean May in Sherman in 1965. He worked in commercial construction in Dallas most of his adult life. When Walter and Jean moved to the Dresden area they bought the feed store. They made numerous friends who were the support system that was needed during his illness. He was preceded in death by his father and several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Jean Thomas of Barry; his mother, Doratha Thomas of Blooming Grove; sister, Helen Hyden and husband Jim of Angus; brothers-in-law, Dewayne May of Dallas and Clifton May of Artesia, N.M.; nieces, Wanda Christ and Cathy Shaw; and nephew, Russell Hyden. A special appreciation to Silver City Volunteer Fire Department, Bubba and Lisa Cottongame, Cedar Lake Hospice, Dr. Fink and staff at Baylor, First Baptist Church, family and friends. A celebration of Walter's life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25. The informal service will be held at the Cross Roads Feed and Seed in Dresden with the Rev. B.F. Risinger officiating. Catherine F. Sewell, 97, of Waco, completed her life's journey on Monday, April 20, 2009, with family and friends at her side. Visitation with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors, 4400 Waco Drive, Waco. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Bill Pack and the Rev. Mary Louise Brasher officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. Pallbearers will be Alex Dugan, Stan Dugan, Tommy Nelson, Don Sneed, Joe Lee Cornett and Nolan Wood. Catherine Flowers Carlisle was born on July 1, 1911, in Waco to Katie Maury Coleman and Joseph Augustus Carlisle. She was a lifelong resident of Waco. She and her husband of 62 years were active members of North Waco Baptist Church all their lives. A happy person, Catherine enjoyed life, fishing, sewing and especially family activities. At age 95, complications from diabetes led to the amputation of one leg. Catherine bravely and courageously learned mobility skills that enabled her to frequently visit her home and take short trips to visit her daughters and family. She loved to laugh and always had a smile and a thank you to share with others. Preceding her in death were her husband, Ray B. Sewell; parents, Joe and Katie Carlisle; two sisters and six brothers. Left behind to cherish her memory are daughters, Betty Ray Sewell of Schertz and Sherilyn Kay and husband Stan Dugan of Corsicana; granddaughter, Katie Dugan of Tyler; grandson, Alex Dugan and family of Blooming Grove; sister, Louise Stafford of Plano; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Catherine Center, Providence Hospital and Providence Hospice for the care and concern they gave our mother. Services for Joan Edith Slaughter were held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Episcopal Church of the Mediator in Meridian, Miss., with the Revs. Helen Tester and Steve Owen officiating. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Hamilton-Beeman Cemetery in Corsicana. Mrs. Slaughter, 84, of Meridian, Miss., died Sunday, April 19, 2009, at Infinity Hospice in Marion, Miss. Mrs. Slaughter was a native of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and a former resident of Corsicana. She retired from the City of Corsicana after serving 25 years as municipal court clerk. Mrs. Slaughter was a talented seamstress who enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, cooking, canning, gardening and crossword puzzles. The matriarch of a small but close-knit family, she loved life and she loved to laugh. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Mediator. Survivors include her daughter, Pat Downey and her husband Grady of Meridian, Miss.; two granddaughters, Adrienne Webber and Audrey Coley, both of Brandon, Miss.; her grandson, Nicholas "Nick" Maloney and his wife Melissa of Eustace; her great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Webber of Meridian, Miss.; two great-grandsons, Tommy Maloney of Eustace and Jason Creekmore of Brandon, Miss.; and two sisters, Shirley Doolan and Stephanie Anderson, both of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Slaughter; her daughter, Marcy Maloney; her parents, Earnest Alfred and Edith Mae Heath; and her brother, Douglas Heath. Rosie B. Wade, 69, of Corsicana died Sept. 8 at Park Row Health Care Center.

Wake services will be held Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the Ross and Johnson Mortuary.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the First Independent Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Henry officiating. Burial will follow at the Robinson Cemetery in Chatfield.

Pallbearers are George Cook, Marshall Cook, Charles Nelson, Darrell Durkee, Bryson Cook, Ricky Robinson, and Freddie Jones.

Mrs. Wade was born March 6, 1928 in Corsicana.

Mrs. Wade is survived by Lonnie Wade, Sam Robinson, Iris Harris and Jean Irvin.
