Location:
About 2.5 miles southwest of Clayton Community, south of State Highway 315, on
Panola County Road 158.
There
are estimated to be between 12 and 15 graves in this cemetery, 8-10 of them are
non-identifiable marked graves and only one is still identifiable.
The
following description of this cemetery was given by Don Austin in his privately
circulated book “42 Lost Cemeteries”.
“Located
in moderate woodland on a small hill. This
is a classic example of graves marked by the planting of cedar trees at the head
and foot of a grave. About eight or
ten graves are so marked by cedar trees, some of which have been cut down before
they were allowed to mature. The
others are quite large, possibly having been here at least a hundred years.
Most of the graves appear to be full-length graves and are lined up in
two separate rows. This is called
the Young Cemetery after a former landowner.”
