Dear Fellow Members,
The officers of Peters Colony Historical Society are pleased to present to you the 2005-2006 issue of Elm Fork Echoes. You are receiving a copy if you were a member in the 2004-2005, 2005-2006, or 2006-2007 society years. We have also enclosed a membership application which we hope you will pass on to someone who might enjoy becoming a member.
We invite and encourage you to attend the 35th anniversary celebration of Peters Colony Historical Society at our next meeting on Monday, February 12, 2007. The meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Carrollton Public Library at Josey Ranch Lake, 1700 Keller Springs Road, Carrollton, TX 75006 in the large activity room at the front of the library just to the left after one enters.
Our special musical program “From Armagh to Laredo: Texas Music has Celtic Roots” will be performed by Christy and Gordon McLeod who are founding members of the well known Celtic music band, Beyond The Pale (www.beyond-the-pale.com ). They have a special interest in the traditional music of America, Ireland and Scotland and have traveled every summer for the past ten years to Ireland to study and perform. They will weave together the history of how the music of Celtic immigrants who settled in Texas influenced early American Folk music. They plan to tell stories about some of the tunes they will perform. We hope you will enjoy the musical presentation and refreshments.
Now that the 2005-2006 Elm Fork Echoes is complete, we encourage you to submit articles for the 2007 issue. We have a few articles, but more are needed for this year’s issue.
The society has done a wonderful job preserving the history and heritage of Dallas County and we hope this effort will continue for many more years.
