BARNES posted by Kathey Kelley Hunt on Friday, June 4, 1999

I am seeking information of Marcus Lafayette BARNES (1830-1859) who was killed & scalped by Indians at Pike's Peak in Pecos Co TX. I do not know WHY he was there -Army? Scout? Trail drive? Surveyor? Desperado?-but would like to know the circumstances of his death & whether or not he is buried in that county. Was there a Massacre in 1859? Or a signifcant incident that might documented in the archives there? Any info is appreciated- I am researching his family in Kaufman CO. and it seems no one knows anything about this... Thank You-

STEADMAN posted by Charles East on Saturday, December 4, 1999

I've been told that my great-uncle Hugh A. STEADMAN was buried in the cemetery at Fort Stockton "about 1949." I would like to know the dates of his birth and death. Is there a compilation of Fort Stockton cemetery records? Or someone in charge of the cemetery that I could get in touch with? Any help will be appreciated. Charles East, Baton Rouge, LA

BRITAIN posted by Eugene T. Babb on Friday, December 10, 1999

On Jan 12, 1913 Wallace BRITAIN who ranched near Ft. Stockton was murdered; shot in the back while opening his ranch gate. A suspect was arrested, tried and acquited. For family history purposes I would like to know the name of the person who was tried and acquited. This I understand was a sensational trial at the time. If anyone who may have access to old newspaper or court records could look up this information or tell me where I can find it I would be greatly appreciated.
