In 1961, as a part of the work of the Rehabilitation and Veterans’ Administration Hospitals Committee, the chapter initiated the giving of a $25 annual book scholarship to a student in the Occupational Therapy Department of Texas Woman’s University. The only stated requirement is that the recipient be the descendant of a war veteran. Winners are selected by the head of the Occupational Therapy Department. The award is presented at the March meeting each year, and at which the student and a faculty member are guests. In 1978, the scholarship was increased to $50, and to $150 in 1991, and in 2008 it was increased a third time to $200; which is it’s current value. The Honorable Philip Livingston Chapter also presents cash and other gifts to the veteran hospitals in the Fort Worth area each year.
