Rains County Genealogical Society

Rains County was formed in 1870 from parts of Wood, Hopkins, Van Zandt and Hunt Counties. It was named in honor of Emory Rains, who was a pioneer in the area. Mr. Rains introduced the legislation that formed the county. For more information about the history of Rains County, click here.

The Rains County Genealogical Society was chartered 1997 as a chapter of the Texas State Genealogical Society to promote the history of Rains County, Texas and its people.

The general purpose of the Chapter is to assist individuals interested in genealogy in tracing their ancestors, with emphasis to Rains County, Texas; to foster good research methods and documentation. In addition, the Chapter receives, collects, purchases, and preserves manuscripts, books, records, and family histories and makes them available for use in genealogical research.
