Pigpen Ranch Cemetery 30 May 1857,"This cemetery is located in the northeast quadrant of Red River County, Texas. GPS COORDINATES: Datum WGS84: 33 Deg 37.913N, 94 Deg 56.658W, El 453 ft. Reference to this cemetery was found in RED RIVER RECOLLECTIONS page 32 and is the early burying ground for the English and other families beginning in 1857. The oldest marked burial is that of Effie McFerron who died on 30 May 1857. The cemetery is on the Pigpen Ranch and is 7 miles east of Clarksville on FM 114 and is 2/10 mile west of the intersection with FM 1158 on Sivley Hill. The ranch gate has the Pigpen brand (Tic Tac Toe symbol) and is on the north side of the road. The cemetery is past the house and shop and in the pasture about a city block further north. Contact Imogene Wooley in Clarksville prior to entering their land. There was a smallpox epidemic in 1874 and 1875 and this accounts for a number of the burials herein. This cemetery was surveyed by Lawrence and Sue Dale on 29 Oct 1999. Later observations may name this burying ground as the English Plantation Cemetery. We visited the site again on 15 Jan 2004 and took the GPS readings. We also photographed all the markers."
