Levi DAVIS was murdered in 1837 by a man named PAGE, who was subsequently hanged from an ancient oak tree in the old Clarksville cemetery ('Red River Dust', p. 137). DAVIS ran a ferry on the Red River and reportedly owned land on both sides (in Texas and Arkansas). He md. Catherine Ann HOPKINS, dau. of Richard Francis HOPKINS and Catherine Elliott, 3 May 1829 in Sevier Co., AR. Their children: James Nathanial 'Nat' (1831-1911), Margaret A. (c1833), Richard (c1835-?) and Elizabeth DAVIS (c1837). Wish to know when and where Levi DAVIS was born, his parents & siblings, and/or any additional info.

Researching the families of Adam, Joseph and George LAWRENCE, William STILES and David CLAPP, among the earliest pioneers of Old Miller County, Arkansas (which became southeast OK and northeast Texas) before 1820. Adam LAWRENCE was killed in Indian Territory in 1826 while hunting wild mustangs with his son John and nephews Henry and Adam. Henry and John were also killed. Adam's widow, Mary (Polly) Young LAWRENCE moved with 7 children to Washington Co., Texas ca 1830. The nephew Adam Lawrence was one of the early settlers of Austin's Colony, served in the Texas Revolution and died in Williamson Co. in 1878. He married Sarah Lucinda Miller, daughter of Simon Miller. He and his father Joseph are buried in Lawrence Chapel. George died in Washington Co., Arkansas in 1852. His son Samuel may have settled in Burleson Co. Happy to exchange information!

I am looking for information on Clemist Earl BRADFORD and Bertha Alma FENDLEY. They were married in Clarksville, Red River Co., Texas on 21 OCT 1917. Clemist Earl BRADFORD was born on 24 DEC 1898, possibly in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the son of Charles Augustus BRADFORD and ( wife unknown). He died on 17 FEB 1958 in the Terrell State Hospital in Terrel, Kaufman Co., Texas. Bertha Alma FENDLEY is the daughter of John Richard FENDLEY and Lamenda Adeline McGLOTHAN. She was born on 15 FEB 1902, possibly in Mississippi or Arkansas. She died in a nursing home in Grand Prairie, Dallas Co., Texas on 21 SEP 1985.

I'm looking for information on Miles Edward FAUCETTE (b. 1836), who migrated from North Carolina to Red River County, TX, about 1859 with two sisters and their families. He moved to Lamar County before 1870. I am told that he served in the 32nd Texas Cavalry during the Civil War. In 1860 he served as overseer for his brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas E. GRIFFIS.

I'm looking for information on Dr. Thomas E. GRIFFIS, his wife, Adeline FAUCETTE GRIFFIS (d. 1878) and their descendants. This family moved to Red River County, TX, about 1859 and then moved to Lamar County by 1870. They had four children: William E. GRIFFIS, Victoria GRIFFIS, Joseph T. GRIFFIS, and Sarah Bell GRIFFIS, all born in the 1850s, 1860s, and 1870s if memory serves.

Seeking info on Levastus McKinney LEE (aka Bass LEE, Vas LEE, L. M. LEE). Born in Johnston Co., NC 1843. To McNairy Co., TN with parents ca1844, to Franklin Co., AR ca 1857. Served in Union Army, 1 ARK CAV. Later, came to TX. In Red River Co.-1900 census, Fannin Co.-1910 census. Children include Alice, Calvin, Nora, Bettie, Elizabeth, McKinnon L., Mandy, Francis M., Lowery, and Martha. Nephews William T. LEE, Monroe LEE, and Charlie C. LEE were also in northeast TX at one time or another (Mt. Vernon, Mt. Pleasant, Winnsboro areas).

Seeking data on Daniel Smith CORNELIUS that came to the Red River Co. area in 1817 in Wavell Colony with wife Mary Stallions and 4 or 5 children. His headright #is 400 and was located near Clarksville. I have records of his wife remarring in the area but can't find out what happened to Daniel.

HARRIS, John G. and Martha. b 1817 in Kentucky. Worked as Minister and Farmer. Moved to Red River County before 1860. Children: William Robert, Nancy M., Frances, Susan, Rice H., Laura, Josiah, and F. E. William Robert Harris served as Corporal, Company B, 9th (Young's) Texas Infantry, (Maxey's Regiment Texas Infantry). He enlisted in Confederate States Army October 9, 1861 at Clarksville. Looking to share any information on this family.

MOORE: looking for information concerning A. R. (Ausburn R.) MOORE and Nancy C. MOORE. They came to Red River County in 1878, according to his Texas Civil Ware Pension records. My grandfather, Austin Lee MOORE, was born in Hopkins County, Texas, in 1871. A. R. and Austin Lee has lived in Red River County since 1878. I believe A. R. was married twice. Nancy C. MOORE (1st wife) was accidently killed by my grandfather, Austin Lee, in 1897, in English.

John E GARREN married Martha J DILTZ c.1860, moved to Coryell County TX and served in Co I, 15th Regiment, Texas Infantry (CSA). Looking for Lucinda HOLT MATTHEWS BARNES, wife of George BARNES. They were lasted listed in Red River Co. in the 1900 census. She was born in SC in 1830 and married her first husband, Louis MATTHEWS in 1848 in Shelby Co., TX. He was killed in Civil War. In 1882, she married her second husband, George BARNES, in Van Zandt Co., TX. He was a minister. They moved to Red River Co. with several of her children - John N. MATTHEWS and Sarah MATTHEWS WRIGHT and their families.
