is no reply until that he may give report of the results that the
investigation which he states may have.
"By a report that has been brought from two different parties of civilians that were traveling in chasings of mustangs, and they say they have heard two cannon-shots in the direction of the coast, and through lack of troops in this quarters, I have ordered to go in the morning to the Mission of Refugio , and to ask that six to ten Indians of the most intelligent and faithful that they go out from it, to make a careful investigation of all the coast, and to find out from whence said cannon shots originated.
