"The Indians from the Refugio Mission have returned from the coast, whom I advised Your Lordship with dated of the 5th inst., I was going to send, and they say to have carefully investigated the Ports of Aransas and Matagorda, in which they found nothing new nor any signs; and it is advised to Your Lordship for your superior intelligence and government.

"Our Lord preserve Your Lordship many years.

"Bahia del Espiritu Santo, January 18, 1799.
